On a set visit for the upcoming Greek mythological film , Coming Soon talked with Henry Cavill - who will soon don the suit of Superman in Zack Snyder's Man Of Steel. Of course, talk about Superman came up, but instead of Man Of Steel, Cavill briefly talked about a separate Superman reboot that was in the works a few years (in which he was considered for the lead role) but was ultimately canceled. He also reveals just how close he was to playing the character then.

This may be strange, but every time Warner Bros. talks about rebooting Superman, your name keeps coming up. Has there ever been anything to that?

Yes, there was. A while ago now. Must have been four or five years ago, maybe more. McG was working on a script with them, and - I don't know how close I came, I'm not going to repeat rumors and hearsay. I understand it was very, very close. And sadly the movie was cancelled because, I understand, McG didn't want to fly. He certainly had a big fear of flying at the time and I think he's since overcome it. But he wanted to shoot in New York, they wanted to shoot in Australia, for obvious reasons, and he said, "No, I can't do it." These things happen, it's Hollywood.

Starring Henry Cavill, Amy Adams, Michael Shannon, Kevin Costner, Diane Lane and Russell Crowe, Man Of Steel soars into theaters December of 2012!

Henry Cavill is a badass! I bet he's glad he wasn't a part of that crapfest, Superman Returns.

That's the only thing that still bothers me about Cavill. His height. I'm still trying to get around seeing a 6' 1" Superman on screen. Maybe they'll adjust his height by giving him the lifts for his shoes. Well that and his hairline. If you guys noticed, his line looks like it's slightly receding compared to six years ago.

6'2? so, when did cavill have a growth spurt? the guy is 6'1 at best.

@TheLight

u realise RDJ is actually short they gave him shoe lift to look taller on film.

This news is old as someone already mentioned. So they had an in-person interview with Cavill and have no info on his physique?!? I'm more concerned on how much he's bulking up!

@The Light: I looked up his pics and his hairline hasn't receded, he just has a widows peak. Since he is constantly changing his hairstyle it can look like it is receding but it's not. Thank God! =]

The boots can easily add another two inches to his height. When I first saw the scene when Routh was in the hospital in SR where they showed a close up of his boots, the heel was so high I thought they added about 3 inches to his height, at least. People say that was his real height so i don't know, but either way, they can simply add a few inches. It really isn't that big of a deal.

He looks taller than Bale; Cavill is recorded to be 6'1 while Bale is 6'2, so it really all depends on a persons particular body structure, it really isn't a big deal.

I cannot wait to see this actor hit the big screen dressed in the Red & Blue Costume

He is closer to 6' than 6'1". The thing is heels don't make someone's stature look bigger and Cavill needs help in the stature category. Heels simply add to height. The guy is pretty wimpy in personality in real life, but his acting will hopefully cover that up.

...and RDJ played a character that didn't need to have a large stature. His shtick is the armor, not having a physically imposing stature.

Yeah I was worried about the Hobbits in Lord of the Rings, glad they found dwarfs for the roles....oh wait they just shot it using different angles/camera effects!

Who would of thought in a movie, eh?

Cavill is not a midget, that's stupid he's 6'1. And if you want to modernize Superman you start with the basics. A 6'4 230 lbs. guy hiding his identity behind a pair of glasses and a nerdy hairstyle is 1950's naive. Nolan is producing, obviously it's impossible to make a "realistic" Superman because of his powers, but you can, at least, make credible certain aspects of the character. A 6'1 guy is way more common and doesn't stand out as much as a 6'4 guy. Besides, he's Kryptonian, his powers don't come from his muscles or his height. A 5'5 Kryptonian would be equally powerful. Stop complaining about stupid stuff.

Wow. I can't believe people are arguing over whether the latest actor to protray Superman is 6'1" or 6'2". Like it's such a big difference.

Please refer to Akercocke's last post and stop complaining about stupid stuff.

@jazzman

Yeah, I know RDJ's about 5'8" in reality. There was already talk about his character's height being elevated by high lifts to make him as tall as the other characters for the first 2 movies.

@JULEZ13

You're right, it's not a big deal. Just not used to picturing a 6'1" Superman. But that's me.

@Knightstalker

People are used to seeing Superman as this epic figure of strength and power. Superman should look like a "Super" man. And being that he was the first comic superhero, how is it gonna look if he's shorter that Aquaman, Batman not to mention compared to the Marvel heroes who already have a lead in the "green" department?
Knightstalker
Knightstalker - 7/6/2011, 10:42 PM
@TheLight...I get you man, but seriously, nitpicking about the difference between 6'1" and 6'2"? Really? As long as he can look his fellow League members in the eye and not have to look up, I'm fine with it. Oh yes...I'm pretty sure Superman isn't going to have to worry about anyone from Marvel ever darkening his doorstep. Kind of like trying to buy Sears tools at JCPenney.
Akercocke
Akercocke - 7/7/2011, 12:00 PM
RDJ 5'8- Tony Stark 6'2
Chris Evans 6' - Steve Rogers 6'2
Chris Hemsworth 6'3- Thor 6'6
Tobey McGuire 5'7- Spiderman 5'10
Christian Bale 6'- Batman 6'2

So what's the problem?!
