How a Superman movie should be made-(Or how a talentless hack hopes a talented filmmaker would make it)

I break down the latest attempts at making a Superman movie and point out were they have failed to make an audience give a crap. I then give my take on how a Man of Steel movie should be made.

In my latest video in a series dedicated to re-pitching famous movie concepts, I analyze where they keep losing audiences in making these SUPERMAN movies and what they miss that TV and animation have gotten right. I have decided to add a companion piece to this video and give my three hangups that have me hating SUPERMAN on Film.

1) STOP TELLING THE SAME ORGIN STORY-

I'm starting to get tired of seeing the same origin story in all of these SUPERMAN movies. I remember when JJ Abrams script for FLYBY was leaked and people flipped out because krypton didn't blow up. Now I still think it would have been a terrible movie, but at least he had the balls to do something different. My favorite take on a SUPERMAN origin was M Night Shymalan' ( yes He used to be good) UNBREAKABLE. In this story the SUPERMAN like character has to figure out that he's a super-human. Because he doesn't know what his powers are and what that means for his family, society and crime, it makes for a fresh and thought provoking take.

2) HIS COSTUME IS NOT KRYTONIAN-

I'm a little rusty with my SUPERMAN history, but I don't know when they decided SUPERMAN'S "S" was a krypton symbol and I'm not sure who thought that was a good idea. His custom is what circus strongmen used to wear and the "S" is for SUPERMAN. Its simple. Stop over-complicating it with garbage writing.

3) NO MORE LOIS AND SPACE MONSTERS-

This is something else that is being over-done to death in these movies. Villains from krypton (ZOD) are not relatable and SUPES has some awesome human villains (Metallo) I am NOT suggesting doing the Chris Nolan realism thing!!!.Look at the SPIDER-MAN movies. To the SPIDER-MAN movies credit, all the villains start off as human and then something happens to them which makes them a freak.

Also Lois gets shoehorned into all these movies and you never really understand what SUPERMAN see's in her. He can have any women and he chooses Lois? Why not let him fall for another woman in his first movie and then when she dies we can develop Lois for SUPERMAN 2.

Anyway just a few thoughts. Let me know what you think and don't forget to check out the video (link below)

Sorry man, but you're way off. The biggest problem everyone has with Man of Steel had nothing to do with the source material, the costume, his origin, Lois, or the villain.

The problem is - it was joyless.

What? Only thing MOS neede was more character development, better pacing, a lil more levity and the dialogue polished...

This could work as a one-shot graphic novel that is sent to a DC editor that is immediately thrown in the trash after the editor decides to be nice and actually read a fans story. Proceeded by the editor saying "The one time I try to be nice"

Nope I disagree with your points

Also the origin has been done in film twice, by the article you make it seem as though every Supes film is his origin....there's been only 6 feature length superman movies and only Two of those films tackle his origin. Superman 1 and Man of Steel. And getting rid of his cosmic villains and focus on his hunan villains ua the worst idea ever. I don't want to see superman playing mind games with Lex or dealing with second rates like Ruin or conduit in every movie I wanna see him go toe to toe with Darkseid, grapple with Mongol, beat the shit outta doomsday or have to deal with braniac

MOS was great, it's flaws lied with it's lack of a hopeful or even slightly cheerful atmosphere, lack of acknowledgement of the destruction and death toll and rough editing. These points had nothing to do with it's failure.

This was terribly written and way off. I will say that i like his costume being made by his mother, i always have. It provides a certain home grown quality to Supes. I do like the S shield being his family crest tho. Lois and Clark did that scene perfect, it was my fav in the entire pilot
