MAN OF STEEL Sequel A Billion Dollar Success?

Another Billion dollar success thanks to the Superman, Batman, or both?

There was a huge negative reaction to the announcement that Ben Affleck will dawn the cape and cowl. So I pose the question will Batman be the reason for another billion dollar blockbuster? The answer is yes and no so let one of the worlds biggest Superman fans explain why. Man of Steel success was due to a great storyline, action, and great presentation of characters. Lets see most people grew up on the Richard Donner version of Superman like myself and after that Superman Returns which was a movie I loved but the lack of action and making Superman look like a PU**Y whipped peeping tom didn't help. So lets think about this and that's as the times changed the way they presented Superman changed a bit with how his character was challenged in the Justice League animated series. Also with the animated film Superman verses the Elite, they showed a side of Superman that the world thought they wanted but feared. So with the launch of the New 52 brought a new look for Supe's and a new attitude but with the same morals installed by ma and pa Kent.

So with that being said made it common sense with the direction Man of Steel went. Now lets see people hated the dark tone of Superman and the collateral damage in the movie but lets face what better way to show the power and danger of two gods locked in battle. When you watched the final battle in Avengers did you really say to yourself the world was in danger or New York. It was great movie but it truly diminished Thanos and the Chitarie that one God, a Hulk, Capt. Steriod's, and three humans(Ironman, Black Widow, and Hawkeye) was more powerful than a intergalactic army that led us to believe to have better tech than ours plus they had a God in Loki on their side. Sorry I pointed out the obvious. Next they hated Superman killed Zod who was the worst villain you can face because he believed he was right. Superman felt remorse he had to kill Zod because they set it up perfectly and put Supes in a situation where he had no choice. So now that I gave a few reasons why the Superman element will more than do his part. Ben Affleck wasn't my first choice for Batman because of Christian Bale and the outstanding job he did as Batman not to mention to be able to hold his own with that legendary performance by the late Heath Ledger as the Joker. So if you can move on from the failure that Batman and Robin was not to mention the bat nipples then you can move on from Daredevil. Since that abomination Ben has rebounded with great performances in the Town and Argo not to mention him as a director. Now he has more than enough motivation to prove the nay sayer's wrong. He is a decent actor and has the ability to pull off Bruce Wayne just the Batman part will be his biggest challenge but its a fact that if you have good material to work with then it can truly help your performance but it does take a great actor as well and Ben is no scrub.

So will Batman be the reason for a billion dollar block buster yet again and the yes part of the answer is the fact of how popular Batman has become over the past decade and the no part to the answer is because the response when it was announced Ben would be Batman. In my opinion it will be a billion dollar success and if it doesn't have to compete with major releases like Man of Steel did then it might do as big if not bigger as Avengers 2 will which is smart of Marvel Studios and that's to release their money makers when there is no competition. So what do you think, Will Batman be the reason for another billion dollar success?

just make it GREAT..then i won't mind if it actually makes a gazillion dollars. but, if it SUCKS a la both The Dark Knight Rises and Man of Steel..i DO have a problem with it making a major killing at the box office, much like those stoopid transformers flicks did.

DC sucks lately... Batman Begins was amazing, Dark Knight was astonishing, Watchmen was really strong... and then came the abomination Green Lantern, the messy Rises and the uninspired Man of Steel.
At the same time Marvel keeps making movies that people just love. Superman is way more famous for a superhero, but Iron Man 3 got better reviews and made more money. So right now I wouldn't say that names like Superman and Batman are enough to make a million. You need characters and actors that the people will like, as well as a really enjoyable story.

I was watching TDK tonight and I realized (for the first time) that when Mr Reese confronts Fox about Applied Sciences going off the grid, he never ever says that he thinks Bruce Wayne is Batman. He says "What are you building for HIM now, a... rocket ship?" (referring to Batman because he has the blue prints of the Tumbler, batsuit, etc). Than Lucius says "You think one of the wealthiest men in Gotham is secretly a vigilante going about his nights beating criminals to a pulp?.. Goodluck." RIGHT THERE. He admits that Bruce Wayne is Batman! I never noticed until tonight but it's pretty clear that its an error.

Have you people who.constantly shit on MoS even seen it? More than once?

You should watch it again.

I think this movie will make maybe 100 or 200 hundred million more bucks than Man Of Steel worldwide. I still think Marvel's gonna rule the summer though. Avengers 2 is gonna be the highest grossing film of 2015.

General audiences will eat this movie up.
It better be good/worth all the hype.

The twist in IM3 was unexpected and hilarious - Mandarin/Guy Pearce was a great charismatic opponent.

The twist of the neck in MoS was against what Superman is about (much like not rescuing Pa Kent)... A mess.

It's not about being a Marvelite/Nolanite/DCfan, it's about judging what is good in an adaptation and what is respectful of the MAIN character.

I think Star Wars will make more, but I still kind of hope they move it to spring of 2016 instead of keeping it in 2015.

As for Avengers vs. Superman/Batman, it'll depend to an extent on which film is seen as more kid friendly. I think Avengers has the edge right now, but I do think Superman/Batman has a chance to win if it's not so dark that it makes some parents want to keep younger kids away. Kids will definitely want to see those 2 together for the first time. Avengers & TDKR were both PG-13, but Avengers was definitely viewed as being more kid friendly, especially after how dark TDK had been (I advised my sister to NOT take my 13 yr. old niece to TDK), and I'm sure that helped Avengers beat TDKR.

The movie will make money because the two most iconic characters of all time are finally going to share the screen together and all the people bitching will see it to see if affleck fails (which he wont) plus as soon as they anounce the villain all this negative feedback will go away just like Zods vertebrae

Yes, this is an editorial.

I agree with Omega that Superman/Batman will gross at least 700M, as it's less likely it will make less than MOS.

If there is at least one good fight scene between Bats and Supes, then I think a lot of people will be very interested on how it will go down, which will contribute to the ticket sales. I just hope neither of them loses badly.

MOS2 needs to make a billion or WB will be disappointed that it didn't considering you have both Bats and Supes in the same movie together.

-I second this!! The first time I seen it I was exhausted and didn't kno how I felt about it but the 2nd time I really got to take it all in. One of the best CBMs n I'm not even a huge Supes fan.

Rhysno1 & worldbreaker respect your opinion but wondering rhyno1 are you a marvel fan and hate the fact DC is finally doing what should have been done years ago by giving the fans a great movie that's not Batman? Worldbreaker I will agree there were some errors in my editorial but what don't you truly agree with. I love Marvel as well and think Ironman 1 is the best one in the series but will change that when I view part 3 but it will have to be over the top great to be the best movie of 2013. Not to say it was a bad movie because it wasn't but Avengers didn't have competition in May 2012 so just imagine if TDKR didn't have competition but that's what if and the one thing I have learned about movies that the only thing that's for sure is nothings for sure. Ironman 2 sucked but number 3 billion dollars. The Dark Knight billion dollar success and the negative critism plus lack of interest by Nolan to some extent still ended up being a billion dollar success. Also remember Ang Lees The Hulk?
