Mark Millar To Translate Superman Movie Ideas To Comic Books?

The comic book writer has revealed that he'd like to turn his extensive ideas that he planned on using in a movie related pitch into a graphic novel in the very near future...

As I'm sure you'll already know, Mark Millar has had ideas for an epic trilogy of Superman movies for a fair few years now. As he revealed last year, it was something that never went any further than a conversation about pitching it to a studio between him and Kick-Ass director Matthew Vaughn. However, the writer has now revealed that he'd like to adapt his ideas into a graphic novel or book. Check out the quotes that Bleeding Cool found from his site, Millarworld, below!

"I’ll probably do my Superman story as an OGN at some point if Jim and Geoff fancy it. I wouldn’t fancy writing a monthly or anything and I don’t really think it would work as a maxi-series, but it would be a great big book I think. An original hardcover. It would be a shame to see the ideas going to waste."

"It’s just an idea at this stage. I don’t want to go exclusive at Marvel or DC, no interest in really doing any more company-owned characters for the next few years. But I’d like to use my Superman notes (and I have hundreds of pages) at point and write a Superman graphic novel."

"I wouldn’t want to do a series or a 12 issue thing or anything. Just a big 200 page book with all the ideas I had for the Superman movies. If it happens next year great. If it happens in TEN years great. I’m in no hurry as I much prefer doing creator-owned, but this would be a fun gig to do at some point in the future. I also know who I’d have draw it."

Would you like to see Millar's Superman ideas revealed in the pages of a graphic novel? Are you disappointed that they never made their way to the big screen? Be sure to share your thoughts in the usual place!

@JaySchluffy he only makes comics to make movies out of them to me there is something wrong with that plus every day he has to say something else about him being the center of the universe. Hence him smelling his own farts. lol

Mark Millar has always been a cinematic writer, Wanted wasn't made for film, it was picked up by a company like any other comic book. Kick-Ass was made because it was independently funded by himself and his friends (ala Matt Vaughn) and others obviously. If you have made a comic book, have the means to get it out there into another medium why the hell not? So far Mark has only done that once, Nemesis is riding the wave that is the success that is Kick-Ass in comic and in film. Thats two examples. Wow.
It's only now that Millar has hit a higher level of fame that in all honestly Wanted thrusted him into and he's using it as best as possible. Sure the guy can get annoying at time because of how in the news he is but you could say the same thing about how every time stan lee is interviewed now a-days he talks about his 3 second cameos in upcoming films.

If he really was simply making comics to make movie adaptations out of that thats pretty stupid because in all honestly, comics isn't the highest selling medium. Why not just go and make the film and make millions? Oh wait he's doing that right now. It's called Miracle Park, you don't see a comic book version of that anywhere.

Also I have to say, when people talk about how MM is always going on about everything and pretty much being a press whore constantly popping up in articles on here and other sites is a bit inaccurate. A majority of the times Mark Millar has been mentioned in the past few months on CBM from when he is talking on his own forum, to the other members and being friendly, he makes announcements on his forum about whats going on. The websites such as BleedingCool get a hold of it and plaster it everywhere. Then shockingly it ends up on this website about 5 minutes later spreading a comment made on an internet forum further out into the web for the trolls to latch onto.

At the end of the day MM isn't really the one going HEY EVERYONE LOOK AT ME, everyone else is taking hold of what he says and is going HEY EVERYONE! LOOK AT HIM!

So his ideas got turned down... But now he's making them into a series... The series he writes get put into preproduction for movies before their release... There can't be two Superman movies at a time, so they'll have to cancel the other one...

SNEAKY BASTARD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Kevin Smith wrote a script for the Green Hornet movie a few years back but everything caved through.
When they relaunched Green Hornet Kevin Smith became the writer and used his script for the comics plot. Shit happens.

millar writes well when he doesn't write to the least common denominator,
although his stuff after Ultimatum hasn't been very good minus the red skull story

As much as I love his creator owned work, I'd be much happier to see him return to Marvel in order to write another event or series like the amazing "Old Man Logan"! Regardless, a comic book version of his quite frankly brilliant sounding Superman trilogy, is something I would most definitely be interested in seeing! :)

I really wanted to see his Superman on film. He compared that bad boy to the Godfather trilogy!!! But, I'm happy with Snyder and Nolan, so I'd like to see his Superman trilogy in one, giant, graphic novel.

Agreed, just throw it out there in graphic novel form rather than single issues (Ala 2008's Joker & Superman Earth One) and it could work really well. Plus the guy loved superman, if theres one thing he can do its superman. Shame he's Marvel Exclusive (unless i'm wrong?) Since he hasn't done much marvel stuff recently Bendis has just taken over really...

@joshw is it just me or does it seem like Miller likes to take a lot of DC comic based ideas and then change enough just to pawn it off on his own FYI Kick ass volume 2...meh it was ok it would be a good sequel though

i agree mark millar is a great writer, not fond of kick ass, but i've never read the novel so cant really judge his work off a hollywood movie, which was pretty good i thought, but wanted, superman red son(BRILIANT) simply mind blowing, and i'm looking forward to reading this superior, but ya i remember him wanting to do a lord of the rings style trilogy...and what i believe he meant was just something so epic and majestic, which supermans stories are and what he encompasses.

while i would indeed like to see his ideas played out in graphic novel form, Millar irks me to no end. i'm conflicted because he's ambitious enough for me to be curios about, and he'll occasionally do excellent work like Red Son or even Ultimates, but otherwise i can't stand his writing (nor his personality). honestly, i thought Wanted was by far one of the worst thing i had ever read. and yet i kind of want to read Old Man Logan....

@Superman8 Millar wanted to make an 8-hour trilogy of Superman with Matthew Vaughn. He compared it to the Godfather trilogy, as it would span Superman's entire life from the early days of Krypton to Superman's final days as the sun supernovas and he loses his powers.
