Speaking to indieWire Shannon revealed the following:

On whether his General Zod will be the same as the one in the Richard Donner film:
“I found his performance [Terrence Stamp] so powerful that I would be overwhelmed by it if I tried to incorporate it into what I’m doing. There’s no reason to try and replicate it cos it’s perfect the way it is. I’m just trying to go down a different road with it, the script’s a little bit different than the original script. It’s going to have a different look and feel to it, visually. I’m looking forward to really settling into it, and playing with it.”

On how many scenes he's filmed thus far:
Despite having only filmed one sequence (the actor told us that “The majority of my filming is in Vancouver, and they’re still in Illinois right now. So, the lion’s share of it is between now and Christmas”).

On the action SFX and Zack Snyder's process:
“It’s fascinating to watch, the process of making a movie like this, it’s very intricate. There’s going to be a lot of CGI and whatnot. I think anytime an actor does one of these movies for the first time, they’re a little thrown off by it. You always hear actors talking about it, like ‘I was wearing this funny suit, nothing I was supposed to be reacting to was really there.’ To me it encourages… it’s actually very childlike, it’s like being in your backyard and imagining you’re on a space station or something. It goes back to the original impulse of play, which is pretty funny to think about when you fathom all the money that’s involved, hundreds of millions of dollars to do what you did when you were a kid.”

Hmm. Hopefully, lots of CGI means lots of action, specifically the great action Zack Snyder is known for in his movies. It's interesting that Shannon has only shot one scene thus far. Could that random Motion Capture actor seen in numerous set photos with Fiora be some type of physically altered Zod? It's hard to believe that Fiora would ever stray far from Zod's side.

Man of Steel is an upcoming American superhero film under the development of Zack Snyder, Christopher Nolan, and David S. Goyer. Based on the DC Comics character Superman, the film will be a reboot of the Superman film series. Using Chicago as a backdrop, and with production to be based in west suburban Plano, the film entered principal photography in August 2011, for a planned theatrical release on June 14, 2013 by Warner Bros., which also includes IMAX venues.

"Clark Kent/Kal-El is a young twentysomething journalist who feels alienated by powers beyond anyone's imagination. Transported to Earth years ago from Krypton, an advanced alien planet, Clark struggles with the ultimate question - 'Why am I here?' Shaped by the values of his adoptive parents Martha and Jonathan Kent, Clark soon discovers that having super abilities means making very difficult decisions. But when the world needs stability the most, it comes under attack. Will his abilities be used to maintain peace or ultimately used to divide and conquer? Clark must become the hero known as 'Superman', not only to shine as the world's last beacon of hope but to protect the ones he loves."

Can't wait for this.

Maybe he's waiting to grow out his goatee for his shoots in Vancouver? But it didn't look like he had one in that only leaked set pic that showed him but mostly his back.

Still hoping for the beard!!

2013 can't come any sooner! DAMNIT. -_-

@Froggy The Owl movie was adapted from 3 children's books!! And it was excellently adapted. Wasn't as faithful as Watchmen or 300, but it did capture the feel of the books perfectly.

Practical effecs are not always practical in movies like this. The only other options are minatures. With out CGI it will come off like the old George Reeves Superman limited to busting through foam bricks, rear projection and brding rubber guns

Yup Lantern failed because of script not the over use of CGI. Though they could have lowered their budget quite a bit not going with the CGI outfits.

CGI, rear projection, green/blue screen composites, minatures etc. These are just tools. The problem isn't the tools but how they are used. I still have fond memories of those old Sinbad mobirs with the Ray Harryhousen effects. If you ask me they are long over due for a well made proper Sinbad flick

Still don't like him as ZOD...

Hell WB should leave ZOD alone, Superman II is a perfect Superman movie, can't be beat!

So many Superman Villains untouched, oh well, gotta hope for the best I suppose.

Cool article.

I have very low expectations for this film, and TBH, the new suit alone has already surpassed them!

All they have to do is make this movie NOT SUCK, and it will still be the best Superman movie adapted to the big screen.

It doesn't even have to be good...just as long as the red panties never show up and he never throws a tin foil "S" out of his chest.

I have complete faith in him....Sucker Punch is my FAVORITE movie.
people didn't like it because they didn't understand it. It had great acting and action. and a wonderful story

What's everyone complaining for....Zod's been done before blahblahblah.

Zod hasn't been in a film since something like 1980. That's 30+ years folks.
Heck, Nolan reused Joker after a 19 year gap and look how that turned out.

I think we should wait and see before we make any judgements on whether Zod was the right choice of villain in this film.

Im just really glad that no one has decided to step out of the box and introduce someone new for Superman to go up against.

@Stinger - what are you talking about? The first two Superman films had Zod in them and they were the second highest grossing films in the year they were released. "Superman Reutrns" (although it did respect the Donner universe) had no appearance by Zod nor did it have any true fight scenes compared to other comic book films (namely from the Batman, Spider-Man, and X-Men films) -- even though the spent a lot of money on the project. This contributed to it not meeting expectations at the box office and why they are taking a different (better) approach this time around.

As for the CGI, I hope a lot of you realize that most films now a days use some type of CGI. Green Lantern wasn't a disappointment because of the CGI, it was because not enough people understood the character, and the producers targeted the wrong demographic (little kids). As long as there are good fights scenes mixed with some good romance, all the guys and gals will be happy with "Man of Steel".
