SUPERMAN Director James Gunn Debunks A Huge Rumor About The Movie's Supposed Hero vs. Hero Plot

SUPERMAN started shooting last week and, based on the rumblings we're hearing, the cast is still in Norway shooting scenes for what will eventually be the Man of Tomorrow's new Fortress of Solitude.

Fans are eager to learn more about the upcoming DCU reboot, including whether Lex Luthor really is the only villain Superman will square off with. We've seen those two share the screen on countless occasions, and it feels like the only way to do something new with their dynamic is by giving Lex his warsuit from the comics.

Recently, a rumour started doing the rounds online claiming Lex's plan will involve framing Superman as a villain, resulting in the Kryptonian fighting fellow heroes such as Green Lanter, Hawkgirl, and Mister Terrific.

A fan put that to Gunn on Threads and asked if it's true. To that, he simply replied with, "Nope."

Fans had hoped Brainiac would take centre stage in SUPERMAN, and while the villain could still be cast, we'd say it's looking unlikely at this stage. We've heard some chatter about Mongul being in the movie and, if that is indeed the case, we'd expect him to be brought to life with CGI.

"We’ve been having a lot of great conversations, David [Corenswet] and I, with James Gunn, the director," Lois Lane actress Rachel Brosnahan teased earlier this year. "We’ve been talking a lot about where this project fits into the canon of the Supermans that we know. So hopefully, this’ll be...we’ll be putting our own stamp on things."

Asked whether she'll be wearing glasses as Lois, Brosnahan said, "I don’t know, actually. Maybe. We haven’t gotten that far in the fittings yet."

SUPERMAN tells the story of Superman's journey to reconcile his Kryptonian heritage with his human upbringing as Clark Kent of Smallville, Kansas. He is the embodiment of truth, justice and the American way, guided by human kindness in a world that sees kindness as old-fashioned.

David Corenswet is playing the Man of Steel, while Rachel Brosnahan has been tapped to star as Lois Lane. Other recent casting additions include Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl, Edi Gathegi as Mister Terrific, Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner, Anthony Carrigan as Metamorpho, Gabriela de Faría as The Engineer, Sara Sampaio as Eve Teschmacher, Skyler Gisondo as Jimmy Olsen, Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor, and Wendell Pierce as Perry White.

SUPERMAN is currently set to be released in theaters on July 11, 2025.

"NOPE?" - there you have it folks.

But how do we decypher this phrase?

Could it contain a hidden meaning?

Is it worth a second article?

Was it worth THIS article?

Only YOU decide.

He also said Ben Affleck was excited to direct a movie for DC , and we all know what Ben had to say about that lol

Gunn is always contradicting himself and idk why, like what does he gain by denying stuff that later turn out to be true, or around the truth ?

As much as I love his Guardian films, I don’t really find him likable as a person or a creative.
He seems too full of himself , and yes a lot of people in Hollywood are , but at least most hide it better or know how to carry themselves in the public eye lol

I thought he had already confirmed that they would be his friends because he wanted to explore both sides of Clark’s lives so that meant having interactions with his fellow heroes and not just the Daily Planet crew.

My theory about the plot given the info we know is that i think we will have Lex build the Engineer in this version who will serve as his hero but deals with issues in a more violent and anti-heroic manner which causes some to get behind her and against Superman and perhaps the other established heroes in terms of public opinion (which could be what Alex wants).

The rest of the movie will deal with Clark having to prove what heroism really means to the world.

Regardless , looking forward to it anyway!!.

Nope:
adverb - No.
noun - A bullfinch.

bullfinch /boo͝l′fĭnch″:
noun - A European bird (Pyrrhula pyrrhula) having a short thick bill and in the male a red breast, blue-gray back, and black head, wings, and tail. Any of several similar finches. A bird of the genus Pyrrhula and other related genera, especially the Pyrrhula vulgaris or Pyrrhula rubicilla, a bird of Europe allied to the grosbeak, having the breast, cheeks, and neck, red.

You can't fool us Gunn! THIS MEANS SOMETHING?!

Not gonna lie, it would have made for an amazing sequence to see Superman have to fight back against some of his friends without actually hurting them.

@RedFury -

Well I’m sure none of us are in charge of managing a 150+ million production. I would assume an office job would be very different to being in charge of so much money and directing thousands of people. Isn’t there supposed to be no time wasted on set ?

Idk just seems odds, but maybe he gets lots of help and it really isn’t a one man job as they like to make it seem in Hollywood.

@MisterDoctor217 - haha that's fair, I certainly don't run a 150+Mil project.

But like you said, a giant production like that has so many people involved. Assistants, 2nd and 3rd crew directors, so on and so forth. I'm sure he gets some downtime within all of it. And there is times where he's traveling to different location shoots as well.

Plus I have a feeling a successful director is probably pretty good at multi-tasking. I don't think they could do their job if they weren't.

But if the movie ends up a mess, you were probably right and I will eat my words lol.

@RedFury -

lol I don’t think it will be a mess , I just think it’ll be the same old Gunn style and still not the Supes movie the general audience wants to see.

I’m sure it’ll be decent but I’ve never seen Gunn make a movie that doesn’t have his personality deeply infused in it , and I think many of us here know his style doesn’t jam with Superman, at least I don’t think lol

@MisterDoctor217 - I'm being as optimistic as I can, and I really hope it'll be a departure from his usual sensibilities. I feel like this is the first time Gunn has tackled a project that would call for him to change things up a bit. So I'm seriously hoping that's the case and we're all blown away.

Because yeah, the silliness definitely doesn't fit Supes.

Would be awesome to see Green Lantern putting the beat down on Supes!
