SUPERMAN: LEGACY - We May Now Know Which Members Of The Authority Will Appear

Following the recent news that members of The Authority will make their DCU debut in James Gunn's Superman: Legacy, we may now know which characters will appear, and it probably won't be who you expected.

This past Friday, we got word that members of the supergroup known as The Authority will make their big-screen debut in James Gunn's Superman: Legacy, and we may now know which characters will appear.

Though there was a lot of speculation that the likes of Jenny Sparks, Midnighter and Apollo would be introduced to lay the groundwork for the eventual Authority movie, it seems Gunn has decided to go in a slightly different direction when it comes to which members of the team he wants audiences to meet first.

According to scooper Daniel Richtman (via Patreon), casting is currently underway for Jack Hawksmoor, aka The God of Cities; The Doctor (we don't know if it'll be Jeroen Thornedike or Habib ben Hassan), and the team's second Engineer, Angela Spica.

A Black actor is reportedly being sought for Hawksmoor, but we don't have any info on the others. We're also hearing that Eve Teschmacher will be Lex Luthor's "influencer" assistant.

We have no idea how The Authority will factor into the story, but given the morally grey nature of the group, there's a very good chance they'll start out as antagonists to the Man of Steel.

It's looking like our new Superman will be either Nicholas Hoult, David Corenswet or Tom Brittney, while Emma Mackey, Rachel Brosnahan and Phoebe Dynevor are said to be in the running for Lois.

Gunn reportedly turned in the first draft of his script before the writers' strike, but that doesn't mean the production won't be impacted going forward.

“Superman: Legacy is the true foundation of our creative vision for the DC Universe. Not only is Superman an iconic part of DC lore, he is also a favorite character for comic book readers, viewers of earlier movies, and fans around the world," said Gunn during the DCU slate announcement. "I can’t wait to introduce our version of Superman who audiences will be able to follow and get to know across films, movies, animation and gaming.”

Superman: Legacy is set to hit theaters in 2025.

Honesty rather them be teased and have Supes be the sole big dog but I’m game to see what Gunn is cooking.

Take some of these scoops with a huge grain of salt too

What if they did like a reverse kingdom come for the first justice league

have the authority be the worlds first superhero team, have them loose their way and go too far (go a bit more justice lord than injustice) and have the new generation rise up to fight back

I think it is a big mistake if they hijack Superman to start up the Authority.

The one thing Snyder got right was making Man of Steel all about Superman without cramming in other characters to jumpstart his JL fiasco.

@DocSpock - I get the feeling that legacy will be the equal opposite to MOS

@DocSpock - Yeah, this movie should focus just in Superman.

Also not a fan of The Authority sharing the same universe with the Justice League when the first is so obviously inspired in the second, I'd rather have them in a different universe/timeline inside the DC multiverse where the JL didn't exist.

@SethBullock -

I could not agree more. I prefer the Boys knock offs not be in this.

The Authority....

@Forthas - Seriously. This doesn't make me excited for this movie at all. It's just saying to the fans that Superman as a character is not strong enough to be on his own in his own movie. And mind you, this is a clean slate. It should only be about Big Blue. Superman is the Pantheon to all of the modern superheroes we have today and Gunn using a cheap tactic to usher in another group of misfits working together because its all he knows. The only difference here is that he's using Superman as a scapegoat.

@TheLight - I could not agree with you more or stated any better than you did. That is EXACTLY right. Unfortunately those of us that love the DC characters especially Superman may have to wait even longer to get a proper Superman film.

Superman is being used as a stepping stone to introduce more spin-offs 😑.....

I know little-to-nothing about The Authority, so I don’t know how they’d fit in a Superman film. As long as it’s in service of Kal-el’s story, I’m down.

So that is why the panels I kept seeing about this Hawksmoor all involved cities, it was a depiction of his power.

I'm whatever about The Authority so far and unless something happens that is how I'll remain. Maybe the plan is to make them be the first modern "bronze" age superhero team (because if they make them THE first then that literally go against the JSA being it) and like @dracula said, they lose their path until later the Justice League has to step up.

The issues are still that, like everyone else is saying, using the new Superman movie to set up these fellas is already not a good idea because it'll take focus away from Clark.

If Gunn really wants this fresh-out-of-Smaville Clark that just moved to Metropolis to go up against morally grey people then that's what The Elite is for.

Also if Gunn's intention by the end of this movie or future Superman is to make him the leader of the group then that is a long and huge committment to do. The whole idea is to move away from DCEU's version that flirted with giving up on hope and all that. They really want him to hang out with morally grey anti-heroes now here as well?

"We're also hearing that Eve Teschmacher will be Lex Luthor's "influencer" assistant."

Guess Eve will have a lot of SM presence and might even "bump" into Clark during his first days in Metropolis.

This would be the 3rd Teschmacher iteration of the character after Supergirl's in 2019 after they cleverly retconned the character from being the sweet and innocent assistant of Cat Grant and Jimmy Olsen at CatCo into Lex's loyal and deadly right-hand.

Gunn better do his own take of the "MISS TESCHMACHER!" thing.

Unless he's going for something different like S&L's Lex and his personal physician, Gretchen Kelly, in the upcoming final 2 episodes of S3.
