Superman: Legacy writer and director James Gunn has revealed one of the DC comic book covers he used in the script treatment he penned for the upcoming movie.

After recently sharing a photo of the movie's art department decorated with a number of Superman-related cover art, Superman & Lois star Elizabeth Tulloch (who plays Lois Lane in The CW series) chimed in to say, "The one with Lois on the cover in a purple cardigan was one of the images I sent to our wardrobe department to try to emulate. A lot of fans had told me purple was Lois’s color."

The filmmaker responded by saying, "I really love that art and used it in my treatment!"

The cover in question is 2016's Action Comics #965 and it puts Lois front and centre, with Clark Kent, Jimmy Olsen, and Perry White all taking a back seat. The intrepid reporter is expected to be a huge part of the movie for what will likely be her first meeting with the Man of Tomorrow.

While pre-production on Superman: Legacy continues, filming won't commence until the SAG-AFTRA strike ends. Recently, Gunn revealed that he'll be "shooting on soundstages in Atlanta," with the "rest of film in places all over the world."

Lois Lane was created by writer Jerry Siegel and artist Joe Shuster and first appeared in 1938's Action Comics #1. An award-winning journalist for the Metropolis newspaper the Daily Planet and the primary love interest of the superhero Superman and his alter ego, Clark Kent, she's also his wife and the mother of their son, Jon Kent, the newest Superboy in the current DC Universe.

Superman: Legacy tells the story of Superman's journey to reconcile his Kryptonian heritage with his human upbringing as Clark Kent of Smallville, Kansas. He is the embodiment of truth, justice and the American way, guided by human kindness in a world that sees kindness as old-fashioned.

David Corenswet is playing the Man of Steel, while Rachel Brosnahan has been tapped to star as Lois Lane. other recent casting additions include Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl, Edi Gathegi as Mister Terrific, Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner, and Anthony Carrigan as Metamorpho.

Skyler Gisondo is rumoured to be playing Jimmy Olsen and we recently learned Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 star Kurt Russell may be in the running for Jor-El.

Superman: Legacy is currently set to be released in theaters on July 11. 2025.

It's an encouraging sign, that's a fantastic template to go off of. I don't think we have to worry about Supes being outshone by Lois, that'd never happen...........right?

DC comics, other than Batman, is just boring, beyond boring. Everything that could make them worth watching WB is too afraid to head down that path. James Gunn is an ok director but unless it's some campy comedy, he doesn't know how to make a quality movie and this superman movie already sounds snooze fest. Thing punches other thing, touchy feelings, abandonment issues, fall in love with girl and then fight to protect her, the end.
