Top 5 Superman Storylines

Top 5 Superman Storylines

For years, we have enjoyed reading Superman storylines ever since he first debuted in 1938. He had good storylines and he had bad storylines. Overall, Superman is one of the greatest hero that I have ever read for the past 14 years. Here are my top 5 Superman storylines.

1. The Man of Steel

Three reasons: Byrnes grounded Superman, He gaves us the assertive Clark Kent, and made Lex Luthor into a corrupted business man. Overall, Man of Steel is still the greatest origin story of Superman.

2. Superman: Earth One

What so just because this Superman is young and comtemperory that he has to be labeled emo? First of all, Superman in Earth One was not emo, he was college student fresh out of college trying to figure out to do. It does have a little Smallville in Earth One but better. Earth One also gave us a chance to see what if Clark had chosen to be a ceo, an athlete, or a celebrity. While this is a fresh take on Superman and earth one did not stray away from the Superman we know and love. There's a sequel coming out and I can't wait for it. Be on the look out for Superman Earth One sequel.

3.Superman: Brainiac

Words can not describe Superman: Brainiac, that's how good it is. Geoff Johns and Gary Frank are a force to be reckonned.Loved the new Brainiac and cried when Jonathan Kent died.

4.Superman/Batman: Public Enemies

Superman and Batman teaming up? Superman on the run from the law? Ass kicking action? Lex Luthor finally exposed? What more could Anybody ask?

5.Superman: Secret Origin

I've said once and I'll say it again, Johns and Frank are a force to be reckoned with. They were born to write and draw Superman. Besides the bumbling Clark Kent persona back in the comics, Secret origins is one of the best Superman origin stories for the new generation along with Earth one

@TheGODDAMNSUPERGUY Secret Origins was that lame, I mean i could do without superbboy and the bumbling clark but it was still good.

@jimyjam1991...Uhhhh, no. Clutzy, goofy Clark is NOT a good thing. The difference between Clark and Superman is more than a pair of glasses. There's his mannerisms, how walks, how he talks, and his general attitude. Superman is stoic while Clark is more relaxed. Assertive Clark is not boring at all. Totally believable as an award winning journalist.

I would have gone with birthright over secret origins.Br was a great origin up until the climax while SO actually made me stop reading Supes comics b/c it went back to some of campier elements of the character. O yeah i absolutely love John Byrne's MOS they should go back to that characterization.

I agree with Superguy to the extent that it's time for people to let Reeve go. But the book/story itself was pretty nice and the art was brilliant!

But yeah, Reeve/Donner are done. I'm sick of those two to be honest. I know...I know...Reeve is classic and ya...blah, blah, blah. But so far all we've ever gotten in films and nearly all forms of media are Donner/Reeve influenced CRAP. It is time for people to move past Reeve and Donner. Superman is BIGGER than those two people.

Sad thing is that people don't realize is that Reeve/Donner are slowly KILLING Superman. The simple fact they created this horrendous cult-following that is smearing their stamp on EVERYTHING Superman is slowly killing the character in the media. IF I see just ONE reference to reeve or donner in this supposed REBOOT, I'll get really [frick]ing pissed. Reeve is DONE. Good riddance IMHO.

Nice article! @JM4Superman.

@Knightstalker- THANK YOU!!!! I don't get why everyone wants to have that lame, clutz of a clark to come back. Stupid i swear.

Birthright was way way way way way way way way better than Secret Origin. When I read Secret Origin I felt cheated. The lame ass "trying to look like Christoperh Reeves" art just got on my nerves.
Don't get me wrong I grew up on the Superman movies, but it was just annoying and awkward looking at it.
The Story was so stupid too, it just pissed me off.

Birthright not being on this list is just plain F%cked up

I never read Secret Origins or Earth One. I can't take myself to read Superman: Secret Origins after reading the horrendous Green Lantern: Secret Origins. Also, I've never read Earth One simply because I don't read elseworld, and it kinda looks bad.

Anyways you sure seem to love origin stories.

Great list, even though, I don't really read Superman. But still good i reckon.

@Golden:
I just know you didn't talk bad about Geoff Johns' Green Lantern: Secret Origins. Dude, thats a no-no. I actually just red it for the third time, and to be honest it is in no way at all horrendous. How can you say that? I'm not normally a guy who wants to sound fanboyish when it comes to these things, but seriously GL: SO was a real stroke of genius IMHO. But then again thats just my opinion, you are intitled to your own :)

What about "Red Son"? I know elseworld storylines are kind of corny, but Red Son was definitely an exception!

In addition, why is the classic Alan Moore comic "For the Man who has Everything" dropped?
