VIDEO: Zack Snyder On Why He Agreed To Direct MAN OF STEEL; Could It Lead To STAR WARS?

In a new video interview with Firstshowing, Snyder speaks candidly about being offered WB's Superman reboot while in the middle of bringing Watchmen to the screen. There's also a Star Wars question to which he gives a very interesting answer..

Firstshowing sat down with Man Of Steel director Zack Snyder for a very interesting 10 minute interview. Snyder discusses how his directing style has evolved, who he feels he makes movies for, and his apprehension at accepting the Superman gig while in Watchmen mode. "That's a hard jump to make," says Snyder. "I'm deep in Watchmen, I'm deep in deconstructing superheroes..and they say 'hey, you wanna make a Superman movie?' I'm about to tear him down..I'm about to kill him! I have no interest in fixing him, or making him interesting; he's the enemy right now". Obviously that mindset changed! Find out why just after the 5 minute mark, and then right at the end Alex Billington asks Snyder if Man Of Steel is his Star Wars "calling card". Snyder feels that in some ways it is! Take that however you may...we do know the director's name was one of many rumored to be helming one of the spin-offs.

@jollem: I thought the goal for him was to make movie more like Dawn of the Dead and Watchmen. You know, good, quality movies. Suckerpunch, 300 and Legend of the Guardians prove he's complete and total garbage. He's a hack.

@Jollem

Why are you telling Rotten Tomatoes to suck it?

The man has never directed a particularly acclaimed film, and "Man of Steel" is slowly sinking towards a Rotten listing on RT. We already had a bunch of Star Wars prequels that were bad films with impressive FX sequences... Any new Star Wars needs to be helmed by someone who can tell an engaging story first and foremost.

I want to like him but he just seems so stupid. He literally says the same thing every interview, it get a little repetitive. I really hope MOS is good I've been looking forward to for years.

I kind of like the trolling that goes on here right before a premier. It feels kind of festive, like putting your stockings on the mantle before Christmas time.

Trolling is sort of a summer holiday tradition for nerds.

Critics have never liked Snyder..and that's fine, I love most of his movies and find plenty of substance along with the style that seems lost on many critics.

Yes because story matters in a Disney movie. Just look at Pirates 2-4, Alice in Wonderland, Avengers, Lone Ranger, & Cars 2.

If the RT ain't 100, I don't see it. So the only movie I've seen is Toy Story 3.

I'm sorry to be harsh but to everyone who's mentioning critics I say this: As a human, most intelligent creatures on Earth as a matter of fact, you have absolutely no right to be this stupid. Even if you're Superman hater you should know that what critics say has almost no effect on boxoffice. And as an individual you should have your own opinion. Stay human! :>

I was justing thinking and possibily writing an article about. I see people shitting on this film for its RT score and most fanboys shit on films that have good RT scores. For example the RT score in Iron Man 2 is like a 85 and yet fanboys bash the shit out of the movie. Many fanboys have bash the shit out of the Nolan Batman Trilogy when the films have a score of like 85, 95, and 87. People bash Spider-Man 2 when it has a 91.

My point, you use RT scores to bash Man of Steel means you can't talk shit about any other film that has a great RT score because you look like a hypocrite.

Rotten Tomatoes is a garbage site nowadays, its full if idiots posting there own crap, proof, there is actually a comment on there that says "MOS is such a horrible movie and Snyder is a hack, I haven't seen it but they should just burn in"........gee with wonderful reviews like that no wonder its got a 67% while real crap like Iron Man 3 has a higher rating

@Levi: Iron Man 2 has a 75. RT just has the overall consensus of what critics think of the movie. I personally don't see why people shit on Spider-Man 2, 3, ect. Well, I can see why for 3 but I still like it. Also, bout your comment about story matters to a Disney movie. It actually does. Just look at movies like the first two Pirates of the Carribean movies, The Avengers, their earlier films, ect. Yes, Avengers has a story it's simple and cause of what they had to do to make Avengers entertaining yet good, it works perfectly. RT score for Avengers 92. Personally, I go to RT just for the consensus so I can see what others thought of whatever the movie is I'm looking at.

At this point I honestly couldn't give half a shit what the RT score is. I'm still pumped for this movie.

I guarantee that if MOS was in the 90s, most of you who are bashing RT would be praising it instead.

Anyways, visually Snyder is a good director. I really enjoyed Dawn of the Dead, and liked Watchmen and 300, but none of this movie ever get high scores. At least, he's not Michael Bay...not yet that is.

I saw one critic who said they wanted to see Superman take a kitten out of tree and flying around with Lois and gave it a bad score. WTF I dont want to see that I want to see a Post Crisis, or even 52 Superman not Christopher Reeves again. A lot of people in Hollywood have elevated Reeves to sainthood because of the things he did toward the end of his life. I think that is what they can't get over. I love the Avenger's but it is light-hearted some in Hollywood still think movies about comics should be that way. This movie is a lot more Serious. Look at what Batman had to over come from the view of the Adam West Batman to get a serious movie and become acceptable. Yes Tim Burton's Batman was darker but it was kind of silly too. It took 5 Batman's to get a serious one and it took 4 Spiderman's to get one also.

Anyone who believes RT is relevant is a frigging retard! Right Now DoubleD wants to push how low the score is at 65%. Next time LOOK at the reviews! One guy spoiled it and posted the SAME review on TWO different websites! LOL try a little harder. That just proves that site is a joke!

Carry on! MOS will be amazing!

If MOS ends up with a worse RT rating then Superman Returns you will finally understand the truth.

Most of these critics are of my generation (middle age) or older and will always judge any Superman film against the sense of wonder they felt in 1978.

"lacks wit and charm?" Superman Returns had wit and charm, was loved by critics, and designed to appeal to women, yet failed to capture the imagination of the masses and was hated by nerds and the key demo of young men.

MOS is being set up by these critics as some form of fanboy service by Snyder that will not be appealing to general audiences because he aimed to appease those very (mainly) young male viewers.

Snyder's main mission was to deliver a roller coaster of a Superman film and he appears to have hit it out of the ball park.

Relax, when MOS has a 100 million dollar plus weekend those critics will be tripping over themselves to explain why nobody cares about what they think.
