Comingsoon talked with director Zach Snyder in an exclusive phone interview recently. The main topic of the conversation was his new film Sucker Punch. However, the subject of Superman did come up and Snyder did offer a few new pieces of information.

On using a different creative team than usual for Superman..

Yeah, you know, I really wanted to, but they're all out on other movies now, so I don't know if they'll be able to, because "Superman" is going so fast that none of my people expected it was going to be so quick and that I'd have another movie up so fast, and "Superman" has come pretty quick. Because they try and get their next geese in line, so I'm kind of having to go to another team for "Superman" but I will be back to my people as soon as I can.

On whats going to happen to other projects he had planned before taking the Superman gig...

Yeah, absolutely. "Heavy Metal," no one wants to do that, but I just basically made a "Heavy Metal" movie, that's what "Sucker Punch" is. I've got a script for "Illusion" and I have a script for "Xerxes" and I have a script for "Army of the Dead," so there's a lot of stuff we have that we can work on, but I think that I'm just going to knock this "Superman" movie out and then see how we feel about what we want to do after that.

On when shooting is set to begin...

For "Superman"? No, we're going to shoot it at the beginning of August.

On when we can expect more casting announcements...

I know I think that, too. Soon, soon. I can't say exactly when but I think you should stay tuned. The movie is growing and getting more awesome every day, so it's good.

more fodder to try and steal thunder.

WB/DC, you had your chance to do a JL film and blew it. Just gotta take it up the @$$ right now and wait till the Marvel Era starts to dim a bit.

Great article! I have high hopes for this movie. Snyder's going to kick butt with the Superman reboot (even though I LOVED "Superman Returns" and thought they should have continued with that), all fanboys everywhere are going to get their faces blasted off with its awesomeness, and I will be forever satisfied. Very confident? Heck yeah!

I really hope Snyder isn't gonna keep us waiting all this time just to reveal that we'll be seeing Zod again. Look I love the villain, believe me I'm a fan. But if they're making us wait this long to find out who the villain is...then it must be a good sign that they are using a villain most people have wanted to see on the big screen. Thus they are keeping us in suspense like this.

@marvel72- I feel your pain bro. Snyder just keeps teasing us... -_-

I love that he is being so open about Superman. Though I didn't like how he said he was just going to "knock it out". But I'm sure he won't just be going through the motions

He acts so nonchalantly about the Superman film, and maybe him doing this without "his" creative team will hinder Superman?

"...I think that I'm just going to knock this "Superman" movie out ..."

Confidence is waning.

OH and did I mention, I wanna see Superman die.

No Doomsday, No watch.

Please, oh please no comic relief Lex Luthor. It has been done to death and was one of the reasons that Superman Returns tanked. (Aside from the lead being totally miscast-the Donner film homage-the total lack of action etc etc etc etc). Zod has also been done, also for some comic relief, please no!

How about something new-say, I don't know...Brainiac? Darkseid? At least something where the Man of Steel actually gets to throw a punch!

@ all of my fellow comic book movie fans and geeks-relax. Snyder has proven himself time and again as one HELL of a director of visually stunning movies. 300, Watchmen (which, imo opinion, improved on the comic by the changing of the ending, but again, that's my opinion! I've YET to see anything this man churns out that hasn't left me feeling completely satisfied with the end product! When I first heard that he was directing Superman...DAMN! And with Nolan behind it, I've got NOTHING but confidence in this film! And I'm not a huge fan of Superman, Batman's more my thing. But from all I'm reading about this new Superman movie, I'm PRAYING that Snyder is able to change my mind on my preference in superheroes and I think that he just might be able to. I'm also a huge fan of Preacher. Now THAT'S a movie I'm very worried about!

Regardless of which way he takes this film and our beloved character, I'm gonna be looking forward to a fresh Superman movie. If we always compare to the Reeve films (I & II) everything will fall short because they are so good and classic. Singer tried it and it just didn't work all that well so a fresh new movie is just the thing.

I hate how he keeps talking about the film but really...doesn't say anything at all, LOL. It's like...he says a lot but then in a way he doesn't. ;P

There are soooo many questions we have he just isn't answering and yet he is saying so much it just gets irritating. Nolan trained him well...

Hopefully in the next week or so we can hear something solid on the next villain our red/blue clad hero will battle...till then expect more obscure interviews like these... -_-

Trust me...you're NOT alone in how you feel :D DAMMIT SNYDER REVEAL WHO THE VILLAIN IS!!! lol

I don't like that "knock this Superman movie out" line. Reminds me way too much of:

I agree with others here that are looking forward to a fresh take on an iconic character. I just hope that fresh take is something exciting and good.

If hes going to talk about the film can he please add something new? Not the same old stuff reworded, if he cant announce anything new the stop talking every 2 seconds about it.

@Smallvilleisgood- Thank you my friend. You said just what I wanted to say ;D

Zack should either say something NEW or just stop giving us useless rehashed info. Look I'm proud of Zack and all...this is my most anticipated #1 CBM. But the guy just keeps repeating the same old shit.

i am so buying into Zack's excitement for this film. by the time the trailer hits i bet most of us supes fans are gonna be delirious by all the gossip an rumors. this one is gonna be a wild ride, more than what Nolans Batman is gonna offer. Basically we already know what to expect from that film, this one....wow....its uncharted territory

Relax people, he will give us a villain soon and it will be AWESOME!

@SuperArgo if you want a darker Superman you don't know the first thing about the character dude.

6of13 - 3/23/2011, 10:49 AM
He better not be rushing into things.

It would be very annoying if Snyder pulled a "Godzilla" on fans and kept them awaiting to see who the villain will be just to build up more of a frenzy. He could just announce casting of supporting characters like Lois etc.

Some new news will be very refreshing and perhaps even reassuring. And like Marvel72 said: Just announce the villain/s already.

naterator - 3/23/2011, 10:51 AM
as for me.... i like surprises. I wouldnt be surprised if we didnt know who the villain was until we saw the trailer.... but then again i dont think they can keep it a secret that long. Cant wait to see the actual development of the film. makes me wanna go take that 8 hour drive to vancouver some time in august to see if i can catch a glimpse of what is goin on....hehe

LP4 - 3/23/2011, 10:52 AM
@TurdFergunson- Yep, totally agreed. 'Nolan-Batman' isn't as exciting because we've already had 2 films of it. But with a 'Snyder-Superman' it is something totally new and something we've never seen...and if this is the only Superman film with no sequel..then probably the ONLY 'Snyder-Superman' film we'll ever see.

Could end up being a really awesome one-shot standalone film! I wouldn't mind that. ;D
