First Trailer For Nickelodeon's TMNT Series

First Trailer For Nickelodeon's TMNT Series

Check out the first look at the trailer for Nickelodeon's upcoming CG-animated Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles series. Is this the definitive take on Leonardo, Raphael, Michelangelo and Donatello we have been waiting for?

Doesn't look like it. As expected, they seem to have gone for a kiddie cartoon vibe with this one - which doesn't mean it won't be any good, just that for most Turtles fans it's not going to be a patch on the last great animated series we had. But hey, it's Nickelodeon, we obviously weren't going to get anything even halfway "gritty". Anyway, have a look for yourselves and let us know what you think.

No embed for now, so click on the image below to see it..

EW also spoke with Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles executive producer Ciro Neili, who explained what the basis for this take on the characters wil be..

“I tried to boil it down and get to really what’s at the core of it, which is this sense of brothers and camaraderie. Everything grew out of that. It’s like a band. You want a Beatles thing.”

Oh dear lord that looks horrible, what happened? Why are cartoons being dumbed down to the point of idiocy?

looks like a lot of fun to me. I smiled/chuckled a couple times. Looks to have the same tone as the original cartoon, and the animation looks killer. Of course, if this was the original cartoon and the original cartoon was coming out now, i'd be most of you all would be saying the same complaints.
I'm gonna check it out. Legend Of Korra has goofy humor but it's amazing, no reason to think this won't be entertaining.

Yup, the turtles cartoon franchise has been ruined.

I grew up watching the original cartoon, and i idolised it. I think if i tried to watch it now, it would be unbearable. This looks fun and kinda badass for a kids cartoon.

Weak and cheap.

SERIOUSLY enough with these CGI creations! They are not even proper cartoons!
Wheres the power of pencil and paper?!

@monkeyballs I take offence I'm not fat just slightly over weight.

Looks like exactly what it is a fun kids show. The same way that USM is aimed at kids. I can never get my head round the people (adults) that complain about shows like USM and carry on watching.

I knew from the art style this would suck, but hey whatever, as long as it keeps them relevant. I'm still trying to collect all of the last show/shows.

Its for little kids i know but still. Pencil and paper wins CGI anytime.

Over the last 2 years I watched the '80s Turtles. It looks just about as kid-friendly (if not more) than this. Aliens who kidnap people and tickle them with feathers, a plethora of goofy mutants and alien invaders, Irma.... a few kind of cool episodes, but overall, it was plain silly. I never saw the last series. But stop complaining about the turtles being ruined- it was always silly.

Plus, the original comics were kind of goofy (Cudley the cowlick, anyone?). Not to mention past goofiness (We Wish you a Turtle Christmas, The Next Mutation.... etc etc etc ad nauseum).

Star Wars: Clone Wars would have been much more epic if it was a REAL cartoon and not that CGI shit.

monkeyballs@ Word. It just makes the cartoons look so cheap.

Everything looks great, apart from poor Donatello's new gap in his teeth.. But it looks like everything that makes them lovable and classic is still there! So I'm happy :)

@monkeyballs3, well said! Haha!

Honestly, I think it looks cool, kids will definitely love it and the animation is pretty solid. I like the slapstick mix with the CGI makes for an interesting combo.

@invalensname5, definitely agree with you there! The 80's cartoon was terribly hokey and childish. The comics, sort of. At the beginning they were pretty grounded and violent...then they started time traveling and fighting monsters/aliens and traveling through dimensions via cow's mouth (thank you for reminding me about Cudley the Cowlick! Totally forgot about him)

@Intothepoop

I never thought I'd say this, but I agree with this.

IMO, the art style looks damn incredible. For CGI in a cartoon series, thats pretty damn good.

None of the jokes made me laugh though EXCEPT that last one about booyakashaa so maybe just maybe.

Anyway, it looks true to the original cartoon so people shouldn't be upset by this

I don't think it looks that bad honestly. Youngins'll like it and that's the demographic they're shooting for. So I think it works just fine. People need to get over the anti-cgi thing. Also, this is on Nickolodean and it's for kids, get over it. That said, I also take issue with the folks lobbing pot shots at others who don't like it. Why y'all gotta be so mean? Make love, not flames, man

Sure, it looks like good fun for kids and that is the point, but I don't like this idea that just because something is aimed at younger folks that it can't also be good. There are crap kids shows and great kids shows just like anything else. The last cartoon was aimed at kids too but it didn't PANDER to them, that's the difference. But yeah, I get that it's Nickelodeon and they go for an teh really young kids..just sayin.

I understand your Point RorMachine, but maybe Nickelodeon actually wants to pander to them this time around? Their marketing team knows a lot more of who watches than the whiners of this thread.

MB007 - 6/21/2012, 7:53 AM
Well, doesn't look TO bad, but the Turtles themselves are completely made out of squares, that's just weird...

My favourite Turtles-show has to be the one from 2003, that was AWESOME!!! :-D
invalensname5
invalensname5 - 6/21/2012, 7:58 AM
@Ror- point taken. And Pixar movies are all the better for it. But where does it stop? Should we lamenting that Barney and Friends is not laden with innuendo?
There are kids shows for kids, and we are not supposed to watch them. Same with the Ultimate Spider-Man show. It's for kids. We get a more adult movie Spidey. There are certain demographics these companies are targeting. Adult males generally do not appropriately fit into the anthropomorphic turtle loving demographic.

@monkeyballs3, yeah, what some of these adult fanboys don't realize is that they're the minority and kids that watch these are the ones making the company money.

I have no problems with this. I actually am really looking forward to this. We all know this TMNT show will be a lot bettet than Michael Bay's 'Ninja Turtles' movies.

I live what I've seen of it thus far and I also am very tired of people trashing on CGI animation. CGI animation isn't bad. Star Wars The Clone Wars, DreamWorks How To Train Your Dragon and Disney's Tangled and all of Pixar's movies are an example of good cgi animation.

haha, can't argue with any or you guys' comebacks, you are right. I was just hoping this MIGHT be slightly more like the last cartoon, which still kept it's kiddie vibe but took itself a little more seriously too.

@Ror- I'm looking forward to watching the 2003 series soon. Anyone reading the current IDW series? I'm actually enjoying it! Mixes the original Mirage series with elements from the '80s cartoon, plus some new stuff (which is bizarre but works in a way).
