Stephen Amell Talks TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES 2; Says The Film Will Reveal Casey Jones' Origin

We’ve already gotten a few set photos, and an official still giving us our first look at Stephen Amell suited up as the Vigilante Casey Jones. Now, in a recent panel discussion, Amell gave us our first details regarding his character in TMNT 2! Hit the jump to check it out!

By NightWatcher - May 11, 2015 07:05 AM EST

In a recent Q&A panel at the Wizard World Philadelphia Comic Con, Stephen Amell talked about his role in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2 and revealed that it doesn’t showcase an experienced Casey Jones, instead it focuses on his origin story. “Gone is the bow and arrow. Incoming is the hockey stick. Without getting too spoilery or even a little spoilery, I will say that you can consider this movie, the movie in and of itself is not this, but for my character, it’s a little bit of an origin story.”

So, will we still see him bashing thugs in the heads with his hockey stick? Even though, he’s not a master vigilante yet, and doesn’t have a steady fighting style, Amell promises that Casey will still use his primary weapon to beat guys up! “So when we meet Casey Jones, he is not necessarily the butt-kicking, vigilante shadow-of-the-night that he may eventually become. As a result, the fighting style for me is much different. It’s much more take many more risks. It’s much less calculated. It’s just beating guys up with a hockey stick.”

With Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2 set to release in theaters on June 3, 2016, we should expect the first trailer toward the end of the year! Before you head out, here’s three questions you can answer below in the comment section!

1- Are you looking forward to seeing the Turtles face off against Bebop and RockSteady?

2- Are you looking forward to seeing Casey Jones in action against Shredder and his Foot Clan?

3- Are you looking forward to seeing April O’Neal do her job as a reporter?!?

1. NO. I dislike the characters of Bebop and Rocksteady.
2. Yes. Stephen Ammell is awesome.
3. It's a change, so i am intrigued.

1. Yes. Bebop and Rocksteady are great.
2. No. Stephen Amell is awful.
3. Yes. Megan Fox can't act, but she is very sexy.

The biggest question I have is this:

The acting was harshly criticized in the first movie, maybe even more so than the designs of the Turtles. What exactly was going through the casting director's brain when they thought, "We need some better actors, how about Stephen Amell?"

I quite enjoyed the first movie, but Amell worries me. He could singlehandedly make this movie terrible.

^ another clown who calls Amell's acting bad just because he does exactly what he is asked:

"He acts with no emotions" and yet ... He isn't supposed too... A fact they have acknowledged on the show quite a few times

Bebop & Rocksteady are normally depicated as bigger thatn the turtles. The turtles are so huge in this universe. So it makes me wonder how big will they make them. The movie was pretty MEH to me. Didn't go cinema to see it, wouldn't go cinema to see the sequel. Hope it does well for the new genration out there. Meanwhile, I still have my 80s/90s movies (NO!!! TMNT 3 does not exist... It was all a dream)& i've got the current nickelodeon animated series.

@Arrowverse

Another clown who thinks that Amell's only job has ever been Arrow. I watched Rent-A-Goalie, he was awful. I watched Hung, he was terrible. I watched Heartland (my ex forced me to), he was awful along with everyone else. I learned a long time ago that you don't base an actor's talent on 1 role. You base it on multiple roles. Amell is terrible in everything. There's a reason he's done nothing but CW, tv movies, and bargain-bin TV besides a couple guest spots on bigger shows.

1. Didn't grow up on them. Don't see the appeal after watching them "in action".
2. Of course.
Emphasis on "seeing Casey Jones in action against Shredder and his Foot Clan"
3. She did enough of that in the last movie. She needs less screentime & focus in TMNT 2.

I absolutely love the mask. I just don't like the universe, the person playing him or the rest of the costume. Color this a redbox rental if I am extremely bored.

Amell is pretty much the only reason why I'm giving this movie a chance.

@MercwithMouth - for someone who hates Stephen Amell so much you sure as hell have seen a lot of his movies

what i learned is that of course you dont judge an actor by only one role but you also have to give the actor a chance to improve and get better over time. if you told me 10 years ago that Matthew Mcconaughey would go win so man best actor awards id laugh my ass off.

@Himura

None of those examples I gave are movies, they are television shows. Also, Amell was not the main star in any of them. For example, he was only in like 6 or 7 episodes of Heartland over 5 seasons. He was in 15 or so of the episodes of Rent-A-Goalie, and a handful of episodes of Hung.

McConaughey 10 years ago? I may have laughed too. 9 years ago with Two For the Money, I might show a slight smile but know it wasn't out of the realm of possibility. Hell, we could go back 18-19 years to A Time to Kill, and I could easily argue he deserved an Oscar for that film. He was brilliant. It's not always that the talent improves, but the quality of films improves. In McConaughey's case, you can see he's had ups and downs with the films he's been in, not so much in his acting ability.

It could be that Amell has never done anything with extraordinary writing, but I would argue that Hung was a fantastically written show, with wonderful performances from the main cast like Thomas Jane, Anne Heche (who I don't find to be a great actress at all), Greg Henry and others.

Not a fan of Bebop and RockSteady so I don't really care.

Casey Jones vs anyone should be fun, Amell does great in action scenes.

And I'm looking forward to seeing Megan Fox do anything.
