Phil Lord Talks THE FLASH Movie; Says He "Believes" It'll Be 'Barry Allen' In The Red Suit

Last month we got confirmation that The LEGO Movie duo Chris Miller and Phil Lord would set about developing the story for Warner Bros.' big-screen take on the Fastest Man Alive. After the jump, find out what Lord has to say about the direction they're going in, and how it'll differ from the CW show...

Along with his creative partner Chris Miller, Phil Lord has become one of the most in-demand writers (and directors for that matter) in Hollywood, and last month we found out that the pair would next be turning their attention to Warner Bros.' The Flash movie. Lord was a guest on the HippoJuice Podcast recently, and spoke for the first time about where he and Miller are with the story. By the sounds of things they're trying to find a way to ensure this take on the Scarlet Speedster stands apart from the CW TV series, even though their incarnation of The character - who'll be played by Ezra Miller - will most likely also be Barry Allen. Interestingly, Lord also describes The Flash as "kind of a stand-alone movie".

"We’re trying to break a story. It’s interesting, because there’s a really popular TV show out there, and we’re trying to carve out space for the movie that’s apart from that. I think we’re doing alright. … I believe [our Flash] is going to be Barry Allen. … It’s going to be it’s own [thing, apart from the TV show] — we’re more trying to stick with the cinematic universe… it really is its own thing, and kind of a stand-alone movie. We’re just trying to think of the best story. I think you guys will like it, it’s kind of a different take on superhero stuff."

Obviously he doesn't mean the film won't be a part of the DC Cinematic Universe, but that comment does suggest that this could definitely end up having a decidedly different tone/vibe to the other DC-based flicks currently in development. Lord and Miller are still not confirmed to direct The Flash, but if they do sign on we might well wind up with something very special indeed.

Of course, the duo are also working on an animated Spider-Man adventure for Sony, and here's what Lord had to say about that. "We’re sort of juggling superheroes with the color red in them, that’s all we do,"We’re trying not to confuse their powers or anything, but it does get tricky. But it’s the same thing, is there a way to do one of these movies in a new way? That’s the exciting thing about it being animated, is it opens up a lot of different possibilities." Lord then describes both projects as being "off a little bit to the side."

Are you guys excited to see what Lord and Miller bring to both The Flash and Spider-Man? Sound off below.

So the DCCU Flash is Barry... but then again he says he believes it will be Barry.

Please let it be Wally instead.

But the fact that these 2 are helping to make it makes me one VERY happy person.

This is the film that is going to not only show theatergoers a TRUE speedster, but it's going to put every other comic book film to shame.

It has to be Allen, I'd be surprised if Kid Flash was first

Don't summon the troll guys! I have my block button ready, however.

Also, this all sounds great. Flash has such a rich rogues gallery that I'm curious where they'll take it. I'm one that wants a Mirror Master/Capt. Boomerang teamup. I also want a Gorilla Grodd with motion capture from Andy Serkis or something. Captain Cold seems to be used heavily in the CWverse, so I'm alright with holding him off until a later sequel.

I'm just interested in how this film comes about and happens.

This might be the hit of 2018. Great actor in the lead, awesome story from miller and lord. Plus, despite my liking of both Quicksilvers, a really great speedster has yet to hit the silver screen. I hope we see Mirror Master for the first one.

JUST imagine the fight scenes.

Hellboy 3 is gonna happen DAMN IT!!!

Universal owns Hellboy's film rights. Universal now does films with Legendary. Legendary has a good relationship with Del Toro producing Pacific Rim, Crimson Peak, and Pacific Rim 2 and the Pacific Rim animated series. The president of Legendary wants to see Hellboy 3 happen. Del Toro wants to make it. Perlman wants to make it. Other actors involve wants to make it.

There is no way Hellboy 3 does not happen unless something bad happens to del Toro or Perlman.

Shall i be honest. I think (allthough that movie is animated) that the Flashpoint Paradox Movie is a living proof that you can do Barry in a dark and gritty movie done right
