SPOILERS: Watch The Shocking 'Reverse-Flash' Twist From Last Night's THE FLASH

To put it bluntly, last night's episode of The Flash was completely insane. Not only did we revisit the day Nora Allen was killed, but the truth about the relationship between Dr. Harrison Wells, Eobard Thawne, and the Reverse-Flash was finally revealed. Hit the jump to find out what happened...

The latest episode of The Flash revealed that Eobard Thawne was left stranded in the past without access to the Speed Force, something which led to him tracking down and stealing Dr. Harrison Wells' face and life with the use of some mysterious future technology. The Flash he can be seen fighting also doesn't appear to be The Flash we know because it sounds like Barry Allen didn't become the Scarlet Speedster until 2020 in Thawne's timeline (and he was also wearing a suit with the white logo). This might all sound pretty confusing, but the clips below do a great job of clearing up at least some o the mysteries surrounding the Reverse-Flash. Share your theories below.

Twist left me flabbergasted. Great stuff from this show...better and better every week

took me a few watches to realize that Flash is the yellow lightning and Reverse is the Red lightning.

So basically... the guy everyone thought it would be turns out to be the character everyone thought it would be... such an amazing twist ¬.¬

The twist reminded me of Fringe when Charlie turned out to be a shapeshifter. God, I miss that show.

Also the whole 'face swapping thing' was beyond stupid. Why the heck does he even want to look like Dr. Harrison Wells, that makes no sense.

@Scarilian It's a bit of a callback to the comics i think....Thawne was known for changing his appearance. In the context of this show....it goes like this: Originally Wells, the real Wells, built the particle accelerator in 2020, and we can assume that's when Barry becomes the Flash. Thawne needs it built sooner than that, in order to give Barry his powers and orchestrate his return home. So he assumes Wells' identity, finishes the accelerator sooner, and voila.

Yeah, I'm kinda scared Tom Cavanagh won't be returning in Season 2. He's so good and I'd miss him.

@Scarilian He wants to look like Harrison to gain access to his resources obviously.

If its in the comics that is something, just the lack of explanation in the show made the scene very weak in my mind.

@yonny616
If you are a superpowered speeding time traveller with futuristic technology, why would you even need a disguise in order to gain access to anything when you could break in and steal it? :L

Tom Cavanagh as Eobard, was IMO, the best thing about the show. His demeanor was creepy and he has that Thawne smile down.

I kinda feel like this is just a twist for the sake of a twist.

The other guy could be great but I just don't know.

I guess he took over the identity of Harrison Wells partly because he wanted to create the particle accelerator sooner to create Flash in order for him to be able to travel back home. But also in some sort of weird logic, it doesn't completely screw up the timeline as people still think Harrison Wells is alive becuase after all he was the creator of the particle accelerator in Eobard's time.

@Scarlian Do you even watch the show? He's basically running (no pun intended) on speedforce reserves. Also it took 15 years to build the accelerator.

If Barry goes back in time, he can save both Harrison wells and his mother from eobard. He could potentially bring the original Harrison wells to team flash while evil eobard remains his nemesis.

Between this episode and the Firestorm episode, I can't decide which is my favorite.

Here's the thing though. I think you'll still see Cavanagh as Thawne throughout the series run, unless a younger version of the Reverse-Flash comes in and then we'll get the other guy, but if they do Flashpoint, well, I should say WHEN they do Flashpoint, I'm sure the end result will bring the real Harrison Wells back and make the Wells-Thawne trapped out of time so that he can return whenever, allowing Cavanagh to continue being a series regular as Wells as well as being able to guest as Reverse-Flash whenever they want to use him (or the other guy as RF if they want to use the Professor Zoom from the new timeline).

Yeah, I don't think the show really needed this twist. I don't hate it, but I think it would have been fine having Cavanagh as the real Eobard. He's done such an amazing job so far, seems kinda weird to know now that he wasn't originally like that.

Because he found out that Harison Wells is working on building particle accelerator and a cut edge technology lab (S.T.A.R. Labs) which he needed to re-create the accident which gave Barry his powers, ultimately increasing the speed force reserve so that he could go BACK TO THE FUTURE.

Do you even think bro? If you can't, then this show is not for you.

The twist made sense to me,because how could Eobard travel back in time and just "create" an identity like Wells and not be discovered somehow?
SecretWarrior
SecretWarrior - 4/1/2015, 9:26 AM
So wait... Does this mean Grodd is going to be from Gorilla City? Because Eobard is working with him right? And Wells/Eobard already had him locked up before the accelerator blew up. So maybe Eobard knew about Grodd and GC and had him captured ahead of time in order to secure his cooperation?

I like all the good questions this reveal is raising. I also like that the real Eobard at least looks somewhat like Eddie... Always bothered me that Wells looks nothing like Eddie.

Do most of you watch this show? Tom Cavanaugh is still Reverse Flash, he is still Eobard Thawne. What was revealed last night was who is he not, and that is Harrison Wells. Thawne accelerated the Flashes arrival by killing and stealing Harrison Wells identity and impersonating him for the last 15 years. In the convo to Cisco that was changed by time travel "You and I have never properly been introduced, my name Eowbard Thawne". Same person from the future, same person who killed Barry's mother.

I never seen anything from the actor playing OG Eobard Thawne. Hope he is good.

It all makes sense now, Wells was a famous scientist in this timeline and people knew him before 15 years from the present. It always bummed me that if he was really RF and he came before 15 years then how he is so famous and all.

I also don't think this twist was needed. Still awesome though. I just hope Wells stays on either as Thawne or his old self comes back via time travel. Love Tom as an actor and he's been dominating the role this season.

Seems like this is set up so that Harrison Wells can be brought back in a later season as Harrison Wells Barry Allen mentor and not Reverse Flash. Like Barry can kill Eobard Thawne and save the real Harrison Wells. or an Alternate Timeline Harrison wells can be brought to barry's timeline.

Why the heck they made the future flash run with yellow lightning and reverse-flash run with a red lightning !? It's all so confusing !! I have to see the episode again to figure out what's what. That's when I knew I have left out that detail in the previous flash and reverse flash encounter, well in my defense it dint matter that much that time. But it made last night's episode so confusing !! -_-

@thedemonknight

Flash always ran with yellow lightning in the show and in the comics.
RF is called reverse flash on the basis of that he runs with red light and wears yellow suit, exact opposite of Flash.

I can understand it might have looked confusing for the people unaware of the mythology.

No need to be rude and the goal for the villain which you specified is beyond idiotic, along with like 90% of his actions so far. If he needs Harison Wells alive so that he can finish the particle accelerator then why did he kill him and replace him? Sure i suppose you could say that maybe he knows how to make a particle accelerator himself, but he could have just waited for Harison to finish the particle accelerator and then activate that. Theirs no motivation for him to become Harison other than to make it more convoluted than it needs to be.
