CBS All Access' re-adaptation of Stephen King's The Stand is set to premiere on December 17, and EW has now revealed that Ezra Miller (Justice League, Fantastic Beasts) will play a pivotal role.

The Flash actor's involvement in the upcoming miniseries had been kept under wraps, but the trade has announced that he will portray the deranged Trashcan Man. In King's novel, "Trashy" is a highly unstable pyromaniac who comes to rever Randall Flagg (Alexander Skarsgard) as a saviour and pledges his life to the demonic "Dark Man."

“It’s so different from any way that anyone has seen Erza before, and he's so committed to it,” says showrunner Benjamin Cavell. “He’s a huge fan of the book and had fallen in love with this character and wanted to play it for a long time. On our first call, he described Trash as ‘the embodiment of pyromania.’ The only thing this guy was capable of, and the only area in life he was comfortable, were with the explosives and instruments of fire and destruction.”

To reveal much more about Trash's place in the story would take us close to spoiler territory, so let's just say he is given ample opportunity to indulge his fiery passion.

Miller says he's very excited to bring Trash to life, and wanted to incorporate the character's pyromania into his look.

"'Fireproof underwear' were two of the first words out of my mouth in the first conceptual meeting,” Miller wrote in an email from the set of Fantastic Beasts 3. “I was very interested in working directly with the wardrobe department in creating a look based entirely on the practical demands of the characters pyromania. Trash wears nothing but what is necessary to craft incendiaries, ignite them, and get as close to the flames as possible — in order to revel in the fire.”

The Stand

The Stand

For those unfamiliar with King's novel, The Stand deals with a global pandemic (yes, it's a scarily prescient tale) known as "Captain Tripps" which wipes out 99% of the world's population. The survivors are immune to the disease, but are ultimately forced to fight each other as some are drawn to the light (Abagail), and others to darkness (Flagg).

New Mutants director Josh Boone, who was the driving force behind all previous attempts to adapt the book, will direct, write, and produce the upcoming series.

Well it was either him or Marilyn Manson, who both were mentioned in the cast but with no roles listed. I was thinking it was going to be Manson, but Miller will definitely work for this. If only he wasn't Barry Allen, though. I didn't hate his acting in JL, mostly how it was written and directed. It wouldn't hurt to have a blonde superhero actually be blonde in live action, especially since Aquaman isn't a true blonde, either in the DCEU.

Spoiler? Well I've read the novel three times so unless they change a lot, no concern for me with spoliers. 🤣😂

@RolandD - I'm wondering the keep the interaction between him and "The Kid" from the book.

@MrCamw1 - There's a lot of episodes for this, right? Who knows? They could leave the pistol out, if you know what I mean. It's not essential to the story, although it does have show an important aspect of the relationship between Trashy and a certain other character (trying not to spoil, "You better believe that happy crappy").

Looks like we got another sub-par Stephen King adaptation coming, boys! This should have gone to Craig Mazin & HBO.

Jason Clarke would be great in the role. I can imagine Jason as a dirty arsonist.
