Rene Russo Expects Frigga Reprisal And Expansion In THOR: THE DARK WORLD

Recalling having most of her scenes cut from Thor, as well not being familiar with Frigga's background, actress Rene Russo essentially expects to return in Thor: The Dark World!

During last night's The Bourne Legacy premiere, Vulture caught up with Ransom actress Rene Russo to discuss her reprisal as Frigga in Thor: The Dark World. Recalling most of her scenes being cut from the first Kenneth Branagh-directed Thor movie, Russo also reveals how unfamiliar she is with the character's background.

"You know, they cut me [down] in the first film. Kenneth Branagh sent me a nice note, because he understood, he's an actor. You move on, what are you going to do? But I think they're going to need a good mom in the next film. Loki needs his mom. What the hell?"

Rene Russo was then asked how Frigga might react to the wrongdoing of her adopted stepson, Loki, while on earth causing the big assembly of Marvel's The Avengers. And Russo also makes note of misunderstanding Frigga's background in the comics, and the fact that she's also the stepmother of Thor.

"I have a lot of compassion for [Loki]. But we might have to have a conversation about what he just did,"."And I might have to have a chat with Thor. But I am so confused - is Thor my son or not? People have been telling me recently, 'No, you're not his mother.' It's all so confusing! I got to tell ya, it would be a little embarrassing if I don't know. I need to read more about her."

After Vulture kindly offered to shed light on the character's background, Russo responded: "That would be great! As long as it's not too complicated. I prefer fewer words in my comics! I grew up on Archie!"

Exploring Thor's relationship with the Asgardian all-father Odin, as well earthbound companion Jane Foster, “Thor: The Dark World” follows the God of Thunder to The Nine Realms beyond Asgard and earth. And as his evil half-brother, Loki, returns for Asgardian justice, a new threat rises. Also rejoining Thor are his fellow Asgardians, Lady Sif, gatekeeper Heimdall and Warriors Three, as they encounter mythical Norse creatures among evildoers.

“Thor: The Dark World” stars Chris Hemsworth, Natalie Portman, Anthony Hopkins, Tom Hiddleston, Idris Elba, Christopher Eccleston, Jaimie Alexander, Zachary Levi, Tadanobu Asano, Stellan Skarsgard and Ray Stevenson. And Alan Taylor (“Game of Thrones”) takes over directorial duties from Kenneth Branagh, who helmed the first “Thor” film. With a screenplay by Robert Rodat,“Thor: The Dark World” is set for release on November 8, 2013.

She's a great actress. I was surprised how much screen time she had in the first one. If they cut out Earth, the important people's screen time will be increased. :)

Yeah out of all the characters Frigga is the one I want to see more from... (sarcasm) I'd much prefer Sif to play a bigger role than Frigga.

More Odin and Frigga in the film would be great! I loved Frigga's relationship with her sons in the first movie (seen primarily in the deleted scenes). I'd gladly take a focus on Thor's family over the Warriors Three (bleh).

Mostly all of the deleted scenes in Thor were great! Instead, we got the Jar Jar Blinks of the MCU with her dumb ass jokes....

I wish they hadn't taken out the scene with her and Odin and the one with her and Loki when he was named King of Asgard.

What has the Olympics got to do with Thor 2??
I usually go to sports sites for sport!!!
Funny though, that you are commenting as I guess an American about a Hollywood film being partly made in England based on Danish Viking folklore and whose initial film had Idris Elba,Anthony Hopkins,Ray Stevenson and Tom Hiddleston directed by Kenneth Branagh ...from the UK.
Yeah, really sucked to be us then!!!

Her deleted scenes were very good. She had more dialogue with Odin, Thor and Loki. A shame those didn't make it.

She seems old enough to be my grandmother. But, what the heck, I'd still tap that.

An Asgardian, she is the Queen of Asgard, wife to Odin, step mother to Thor, biological mother to Balder and foster mother to Loki.

I'm guessing in the Marvel movies she actually is the birth mother of Thor and foster mother to Loki.
Nobody has time to start explaining that Thor is actually the bastard son of Gaea and Odin.

I definitely wanted more scenes with his mother,
It would've been nice to ground the character and give an emotional mothering presence in the intense world of Asgard.

Definitely need Valkyrie and Balder in this movie.

And why ISN'T Kat Dennings Hela?

@moraga nobody gives a [frick] about all that Earth goddess shit, especially movie-goers. Disney doesn't even call Thor a "god" because they're scared of their dipshit religious right fans. So no, there'll be no lessons on how Odin tapped the Earth goddess' ass for Thor.

Odin is dad, Frigga is mom and that's it.

Is morago going for the asshole of the day award? He should definitely get it.

Knowing stuff is good kid, but you're not the only person here who's read a few comics, so don't be a dick about it. Mmkay?

The major weakness in Thor was the lack of emphasis upon Asgard. I hope they focus on the realm itself and all its many characters.
OdinsEye

Exactly what is Frigga's relationship to Thor and Loki? Frigga is Thor's 'adoptive' mother to both. Loki is the son of a frost giant, though I am not sure who is mother is. Gaea (also known as Jord), or the earth goddess, is Thor's mother. Odin wanted a son of Asgard and Midgard, able to draw strength from either or both, something that Marvel has ignored in the world of comics.

I also thought most of the deleted scenes from Thor should have been included and would have a made a great movie that much better.
