MCU fans were excited to finally get a first look at what we thought was some official promo artwork for Thor: Love and Thunder yesterday, but the poster that found its way online appears to be a well put-together fan-made effort.
A Twitter user shared the poster and tagged director Taika Waititi, who responded with the following.
It's hard to blame fans for thinking this was legit, because despite Waititi's comments, it was actually better than some recent posters for a certain movie swinging into theaters next week! The poster clearly wasn't a Marvel Studios theatrical one-sheet, but it did look like it might have been the sort of official promo/marketing art that's used on tie-in merchandise packaging and the like. Is there a chance the filmmaker is telling porkies here? We haven't seen any of these character designs before, after all.
Plot details are still under wraps, but we know the story will revolve around the Odinson's old flame Jane Foster (Natalie Portman) transforming into The Mighty Thor. Valkyrie (Tessa Thompson) and members of the Guardians of the Galaxy will also be on hand, with Christian Bale taking on villain duties as Gorr the God Butcher.
Russell Crowe recently let slip that he'll be playing Zeus, while Matt Damon and Sam Neill have also been confirmed to return as "Fake Loki" and "Fake Odin" for (presumably) a stage re-cap of the events of Ragnarok.
Thor: Love and Thunder is set to hit theaters next February.
