THOR: LOVE & THUNDER Director Taika Waititi Says Recently Released Poster Is Not Actually Official

Yesterday, what we believed to be an official promo poster for Marvel's Thor: Love and Thunder found its way online, but director Taika Waititi has now taken to Twitter to cast doubt on its legitimacy.

MCU fans were excited to finally get a first look at what we thought was some official promo artwork for Thor: Love and Thunder yesterday, but the poster that found its way online appears to be a well put-together fan-made effort.

A Twitter user shared the poster and tagged director Taika Waititi, who responded with the following.

It's hard to blame fans for thinking this was legit, because despite Waititi's comments, it was actually better than some recent posters for a certain movie swinging into theaters next week! The poster clearly wasn't a Marvel Studios theatrical one-sheet, but it did look like it might have been the sort of official promo/marketing art that's used on tie-in merchandise packaging and the like. Is there a chance the filmmaker is telling porkies here? We haven't seen any of these character designs before, after all.

Plot details are still under wraps, but we know the story will revolve around the Odinson's old flame Jane Foster (Natalie Portman) transforming into The Mighty Thor. Valkyrie (Tessa Thompson) and members of the Guardians of the Galaxy will also be on hand, with Christian Bale taking on villain duties as Gorr the God Butcher.

Russell Crowe recently let slip that he'll be playing Zeus, while Matt Damon and Sam Neill have also been confirmed to return as "Fake Loki" and "Fake Odin" for (presumably) a stage re-cap of the events of Ragnarok.

Thor: Love and Thunder is set to hit theaters next February.

But the designs are legit aren't they? They look so good!

@Fares -

I mean...the thing had 3 Thors, 3 Jane Foster as Thors, 2 Korgs, 2 Valkyries, blurred images and bad blending plus terrible lighting and garish colors.

How anyone thought this was official is mind-boggling.

@Humperdink - Seeing that it isn't an offical poster had me thinking that maybe it's a toy box cover (thye do crazy shit like that) or just a placeholder that was thrown together quickly to have an idea on how a final version could turn out, so redundancy of characters isn't that big of a deal.
Also the artistic depiction of the faces and suits is just so good, no less than anything an Andy Park or a Ryan Meinerding would do. The goats also fit the design seen in leaked set photos.

Maybe Marvel could hire the designer of the poster.

- Korg on the poster TWICE
- CoC Goats
- Stormbreaker taking up the HUGE villain spot

Remember when this whole song and dance happened with Rise of Skywalker? Quick, photoshopped promo posters like this one get churned out en masse for movies like this all the time, and it makes sense that one accidentally leaked early, especially considering that the movie was originally supposed to be release around this time. It's very clearly real, given the quality of the art and the fact that it features Thor in a new costume we haven't seen before. Taika Waititi is the director of the movie; he's not in charge of marketing. I would be willing to bet good money that when the movie comes out, this poster will be accurate to how everyone looks.

Sounds like he's doing damage control. The designs look quite legit to me.

I'm more excited however, for his other directorial effort of Rita and Tess 😂

This article saying it isn't official, is followed by the article saying "promo poster" for the new movie.
