THOR: THE DARK WORLD REVIEW: The God of Thunder Makes A Solid Return

Although I've quite enjoyed Kenneth Branagh's Thor, I wasn't expecting much from this follow up. So how does Alan Taylor's take fair through? Hit the jump to read my spoiler-free review of Thor: The Dark World.

2011's Thor was a good entry into the Marvel Cinematic Universe loar, but my main issue was having him walk around on Earth powerless. Which I thought dragged the film down a bit, not to discredit Kenneth Branagh by any means. Thankfully, Alan Taylor of Game of Thrones fame was able to give a great balance between Asgard, and Earth which I enjoyed greatly.

The film starts off slow, but once it picks up I was entreaged all the way through. Beautifully shot, and great cinematography from Kramer Morgenthau to give this a real Game of Thrones feel, fantastic visual effects, great action set pieces as well as a solid score from Iron Man 3's Brian Tyler.

Chris Hemsworth once again returns as the Mighty Avenger, along with his sly brother Loki perfectly portrayed by Tom Hiddleston. Their chemistry is better than ever, having them bicker on that garners a few laughs and heartfelt moments, well for me at least. I can understand the hate for Darcy (Kat Dennings) but for some reason I'm not distracted, nor annoyed by her. As for the humor itself, which added a nice touch to the dialogue. Good to see The Warriors Three kick ass, but I'm disappointed Sif (Jaimie Alexander) didn't get more screen time. Jane Foster (Natalie Portman) served as a main plot point which I thought was interesting.

As for Malekith (Christopher Eccleston) he was completely under used, and barely did anything to consider him a huge threat. Eccleston did a great job with what he had, but I was more interested in Kurse (Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje) throwing the smack down with Thor, being more of an imposing villain.

Overall Thor: The Dark World is a fun time, and I'm looking forward to watching it again, this time in IMAX 3D. Don't forget to keep an eye out for some hilarious Marvel easter eggs!

I respect your review but it was 2 out of 5 at best. it would build up to be epic and just be a let down. I also think jane foster kills the movie

I've noticed a trend here on CBM.com, and that is most who disliked TDW are, unsurprisingly, MOS/Superman fans.

*SPOILERS*

7.5/10 for me. I hated everything with Darcy, Ian, and Selvig so much to a point that I actually face palmed during a few of their scenes. Malekith was brutally underused for the sake of more Darcy, and I didn't like the fact that the two most emotional scenes(Frigga's funeral and Loki's "death") were each followed up by a comedic scene. That's the bad stuff, the good stuff is basically everything else. The Thor and Loki scenes were fantastic, the action was great, and it did have a lot of emotion and drama which I loved. A very enjoyable film and my second favorite MCU solo film(behind Iron Man 1).
