Doctor Strange Finally Joins The Team In New THOR: RAGNAROK Traditional Korean Painting
The newest Thor: Ragnarok's promo art gives us a fresh look at the movie’s assembled cast, including Benedict Cumberbatch’s Doctor Strange and it may be the strangest thing you’ll see today...
Thor: Ragnarok’s promotional campaign doesn’t seem to run out of steam and just a few days ago Marvel Studios kicked off its social media #HelaWeen initiative, releasing each day a new piece of content. We all knew that Taika Waititi’s take on the third Thor film would embrace the weird, but the new international artwork for the movie is a completely different beast and it’s all sorts of awesome.
The artwork that assembles the cast of Thor: Ragnarok is based on Kim Hong-do’s traditional, Korean painting called Sangbak. The obvious inspiration for the poster presents the wrestlers and cheering crowd during a sport festival. This ancient form of martial arts (Ssireum) is still very popular in Korea.
You can check out the original painting and The Friends From Work’s take on it, down below:
Taika Waititi's Thor: Ragnarok hits theaters on November 3, 2017.
