THOR: RAGNAROK IMAX Poster Released; Director Taika Waititi Not Concerned With Fitting Into The Larger MCU

Thor: Ragnarok is obviously a part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but the movie's director is less concerned with making "an episode of some larger thing" than he is ensuring that his film holds up as a standalone adventure.

Here's what Taika Waititi had to say on the matter during an interview with WGTC:

"My job is to make a film that can sit alone as a standalone piece that obviously I’ll be proud of. But I want it to be a film that, if it’s the only Marvel film you see, that it’s a great film and it’s a great story in and of itself. The lucky thing is that there are a bunch of geniuses who run Marvel who make sure that it even if it’s a standalone piece, it is part of a great big jigsaw puzzle that could be appreciated as a whole as well."

In addition, we have a new IMAX poster for the Marvel threequel which will be available for a limited time at select IMAX screenings.

Thor: Ragnarok hammers into theatres in November.

Kinda dissapointed with the MCU posters but I must say that I really dig their IMAX posters

@Bokis - I too usually prefer the IMAX posters but I'm not a big fan of this one. I actually really like the Ragnork poster with Hulk Hela and Thor standing in front fo each other with their hands raised.
That with this cartoon styling of this poster would have looked great,

It's a relief to see Feige and Disney granting a bit more creative freedom to their directors over the last few films, after the issues with Age of Ultron.

@Spodermug - Ever since he's been granted freedom from the creative committee and Ike, the quality has increased.

@Spodermug - Considering they are no longer under the rule of Ike, more directos have a bit more freedom, as some of the issues in the previous films like the firing fo Edgar Wright were Ike related

@DarthGrizzly - I feel the issue with Star Wars is the fact that everything is canon (which I really enjoy) that immediately reduces "creative choice".
That means it is diffcult to move off script. A single improvised line, could mess with canon.

@Ryguy88 - Exactly. It's a shot from Ragnarok, not TLJ.

I don't understand your logic here. You just contradicted yourself by first saying she IS in TLJ and then saying that this shot is NOT from TLJ.

Get your sh*t together, people.

I think that's my only problem with Civil War.

The end of The First Avenger feeds quite well into The Winter Soldier; if you skip The Avengers in a Cap trilogy-binge, you can just assume he went off with Fury right then and there with some stuff that happened in between. With Civil War, while it does pick up the pieces from Winter Soldier with Bucky, Hydra, etc., a lot of its moving pieces to get there are pulled from Age of Ultron.

Taika seems like a cool guy. He wouldn't have been my first choice for Thor but i hope he knocks it out of the park.

It seems that Marvel Studios only gives a render's pack to the poor designer

anyway the movies make up for this
