Actor Stuart Townsend has left the film, Thor, stating creative differences. The actor, who was also slated to star as Aragorn in the "Lord of the Rings" trilogy (he was replaced by Viggo Mortenson just before filming) was replaced by Joshua Dallas. Dallas can be seen in George Lucas' upcoming film "Red Tails."



ecksmanfan: interesting change. I thought Townsend was perfect for the part, but it seems his ego got in the way.

'Creative differences' cause him to leave both LOTR and Thor?!! This guy would want to cop on, he is destroying his career by leaving big films.

Peter Jackson gave him the boot after filming started because he thought that Townsend looked too youg for the role.

@Ecksmanfan- that makes more sense. He would have been too young and Mortenson did a great job.
Still, the biggest film this guys done was LXG, one of the worst CBMs ever. He shouldnt let his ego cause him to lose a role like this.

He attempted to replce Cruise as Lestat in "Queen of the Damned"...failed miserably. I think the dude needs a new agent, or talent. Whatever.

Should not be a big deal. Townsend thinks he's a huge star but all he does is screw the pooch on tentpole type movies.

Lol, Townsend does have a big ego. Anyone who thinks that Cruise was a good Lestat, BAH! Cruise was SECOND choice. I've read the books and Townsend did a good job. Seriously, can you picture Tom Cruise rocking out in a Goth band?

I agree though, he does look too young for Aragon. Good thing they replaced him cause Vigo did awesome.

Townsend looks a little too pretty boy for the part. The new guy at least looks like he has one ball.

@Darth- He hasn't done much, so I have no idea if he's any good or not. He's got a couple films coming up, but nothing major from the looks of it. Can't imagine him being any worse than Townsend.

FYI- to clarify my statement above in the article, I meant perfect for the part because of the ego, not the acting skills.

Townsend played Dorian Gray. i thought he was good in that role. of course, i never read the comic so........

anyway, i was actually looking forward to seeing Townsend as Fandral. he would have brought a swagger few could pull off or endure.
but i'll reserve judgement for Dallas until i see Thor!

@Wadey- I didn't mind him in that role, it wasn't great though. That character wasn't included in the comic actually, they wrote it in for the movie.

This is too bad I guess it's truly confirmed. Stuart Townsend would be cool as Fandral I don't truly understand why he would let that slip.

As for the guy Joshua Dallas thats replacing him he looks more fitting as a young Steve Rogers aka Captain America. I think Marvel is playing games. Marvel what are you doing with CAP? If you ever read this.

I'm beginning to think would Stuart Townsend make the mistake of giving up this film with a great cast,director and studio? It's Marvel! It's Kenneth Branagh! It's Natalie Portman! All high caliber people for the chance of a life time. Also,I always thought Stuart would be a cool Dr. strange.

@ecksmanfan-what do you mean? Fandral is apart of The warriors three Thor's friends. They are all in the comics.

@ Necro: yeah that's not very impressive. One might even refer to this gentleman as somewhat "untested".

@ Wadey: Oh yeah! I remember him now.. I definitely remember him as Oscar Wilde's Dorian gray in LXG, and I agree with you in that he did fairly well for what it was. yuh thanks man.

Whatever the circumstances are, he's an idiot for losing that role.

BTW i'm fine with an untested actor as fandral . . . NO big budget film can afford to put a star in every role, especially when you spend the money for portman & hannibal lecter (i mean hopkins). i understand that they have a budget &, let's face it, it's called thor, not fandral lolz. hopefully he'll work hard & really nail the lines he gets in the movie.

Abismal is a strong word. I think Townsend has potential but i agree that he doesn't fit many roles. I would LOVE to see him in the Crow reboot from Norington but damn... GET YOUR ACT STRAIGHT, GUY!!!
