Previously seen as grainy magazine scans, high-quality copies of recent Thor: The Dark World stills have surfaced in addition to some potential details surrounding Marvel & director Alan Taylor's feud.

Meanwhile, following confirmation of Thor: The Dark World losing its composer, Carter Burwell, there are unconfirmed rumors that Marvel Studios is also unhappy with the sequel's director, Alan Taylor. While he was apparently asked to take a vacation "until after" Thor: The Dark World is released, a Latino Review commenter seems to know exactly why (spotted by @thormoviesfan ).

"Taylor Was apparently butting heads with Fiege over the run time and final edit," the user Redbull Werewolf claims. "Taylor wants the film to be 2 and a half hours, Marvel says he's contracted to give them a 2 hour film and he;s breaching his contract. He hasn't been fired but Editing has stopped for 2 weeks while both parties take some time to cool off before a mediator will be brought in middle of June. Bottom line is that the film is only 5 months from release and A decision is going to have to be made soon especially if re shoots are required"

Most people's complaint about first Thor film was that it was too short(a bit below two hours). Would've thought that the sequel would be longer. I personally would like it to be longer, that way we see more of the Nine Realms.

Likely Marvel studios wants a 2 hour film in order to maximize show times. The 30 minute difference will effect the amount of money you can make per day.

With that said, I'd stand with Taylor on this. He's the creative force and as a fan I want more Thor not less. On the surface, it appears that Feige is making a business decision and Taylor is making a creative decision.

It would be one thing if Taylor was trying to do a 3 1/2 hour ode to himself (James Cameron).

I'm Sure Taylor cares more about the story than the studio. If the director believes his work can only be represented correctly in 2 and a half hours, then by God make the shit 2 and half hours. One thing Disney/Marvel can take from WB/DC is how they give their directors more freedom..

I'm sure the net revenue from The Avengers and IM3 alone would allow for the POTENTIAL loss of revenue from an extended run-time. Marvel needs to stop worrying about being such a corporation for a bit and worry about creating a solid product.

Go ahead and let the man have his extra half hour. These movies need the time to work. When you start cutting too heavily, its possible to cut out things that matter. There are only so many minutes of "thor stares into the camera" to cut, before you have to cut "Sif riding a horse" or "sif smacking jane"

2.5 hours didnt hurt The Avengers box office tally?? maybe Feige thinks the film is dragging at that length who knows I trust Kevin Feige he's got us this far he knows what hes doing, sometimes Directors get to close to the material Joss had the same problem on the Avengers he steped away for a week and came back with fresh eyes and took out great scenes but scenes that slowed the experience down.

Run time for a movie is not a small or insignificant thing to studios. The studio is thinking about how many butts they can get into the seats in a day for two weeks. A longer run time limits that or may require more screens. So there is a cost attached to it. If you were a studio exec. you definitely need to be aware of it. You don't want your artist running wild with it, I'm looking at you David Lynch and James Cameron.

That said, you don't bring in a talent like Taylor and then tie his hands over 30 minutes. In the short term you may make a little more money with a shorter run time but you build a strong franchise with a great movie. You will reap the rewards on dvd and future films.

Just think Feige is being short-sighted. Maybe it's time for Joss Whedon to take his place. No one is irreplaceble Mr. Feige, even you.

Wait a minute Blueballs, it's not like he's trying to make a six hour Director's cut of Dune.

You may cut away some of the fat. Editing is a part of film making. But if you are just trying to reach an arbitrary time for the sake of screenings then you are not thinking about the content of your film but the bottom line.

If Feige looks at these kind of sites, then he should know that with all CBM lovers the longer the better. Also isn't Feige starting to piss you off. Wasn't IM3 over 2 hours? Avengers was about 2 and a quarter. Feige stop cutting films to [frick]. Prime example Incredible Hulk I have seen the directors cut with about 30mins added on and its better for it. Thor was far too short.

Why does Marvel feel the need to cut out great scenes just for the sake of having a short run time? I mean come on now. Literally ALL of the highest grossing movies of all time are over 2 hours long. Let the man make his damn movie!

Let him tell his story! Marvel is worrying a little bit too much on marketing formulas. If the movie is good it doesn't matter if it's 2 1/2 hours long, look at Ironman 3. My advice is to let Taylor tell his own story and as a fig leaf for the Marvel faithful, put any short at the front end of the credits.

After all why is he directing if you can't be allowed to direct.

@Intruder The source is the main reason I didn't mention the feud in the headline. And reading more into run-time in Hollywood, apparently "the longer the film is, the less screens it can be showed in!" Therefore, it's a reasonable and a believable argument.

Concerning The Avengers, I'm sure they were a little more confident with the movie being longer than 2 hours like they were with the Iron Man movies.

Ok Marvel if this is true then do what you've been doing and listen to the fans let us have the 30mins because with D/C steping up on Justice League this isn't the right time to piss off the fans like how we feel about Trevor and Mandarin thing
