How Strong Is MCU’s Sentry and Who Can Actually Beat Him?
The arrival of Sentry in the Marvel Cinematic Universe is already being framed as a turning point. Promotional materials claim he’s as powerful as Captain Marvel, Thor, and Vision combined. While the film Thunderbolts* doesn’t give us a ton of feats to analyze, the statements alone—and the chaos he caused—suggest we’re dealing with one of Marvel’s top-tier beings. So how strong is MCU Sentry really, and who in the existing roster can possibly take him down?
The Sentry Power Scale: Promotional Hype or Real Deal?
Let’s start with what we know. Official promos describe Sentry as the most powerful threat in MCU history—stronger than the Avengers themselves. Sure, that sounds like clickbait. But considering Marvel isn't exactly shy about gaslighting audiences for hype, we still need to parse that with caution.
Still, if we accept the idea that Sentry equals Captain Marvel + Thor + Vision, he’d comfortably be star-level in durability and attack power, and faster-than-light in combat speed. Carol Danvers reignited a star, Thor endured the core of a neutron star, and Vision is... well, just tagging along for the calculation. So even conservatively, Sentry’s low-end scaling makes him planetary at minimum, with high-end estimates pushing into cosmic threat levels.
Wanda, Loki, and the People Who Could Actually Clap Him
So, who can challenge Sentry? Let’s be honest—Scarlet Witch post-Darkhold wipes the floor with him. In Multiverse of Madness, Wanda casually erased the Illuminati, including a Captain Marvel variant, Black Bolt, and Professor X. Sentry might scale to Carol, but not to Wanda’s current level of reality-warping insanity. She’s in a class of her own now.
Doctor Strange also deserves an honorable mention. His Time Stone capabilities alone could counter Sentry, and variants like the one who took out Thanos on Titan with the Darkhold might even match or beat him in direct combat.
Then there’s Loki. Not the trickster from 2012—He Who Remains. This version of Loki now controls the threads of the multiverse itself. Unless you’re erasing entire timelines or rebooting realities, you’re not touching that level of power. As of now, Loki is probably the most powerful character in the MCU, period.
What About Cosmic and Future-Level Threats?
Characters like Doctor Doom and Galactus haven’t appeared yet, but they’re on the horizon. And let’s face it, Doom isn’t getting jobbed by Sentry in his debut. If anything, Doom is likely orchestrating things from the shadows already. Then there’s Knull, who literally sliced a Celestial and once tore Sentry in half in the comics. He hasn’t arrived, but Marvel has been planting seeds.
And speaking of Galactus, he’s canonically stronger than most Celestials and may be introduced in the upcoming Fantastic Four reboot. Sentry once fought him to a draw—with backup. If Galactus shows up in his full power, Sentry won’t be the apex predator anymore.
Who Could Rival Him in Raw Firepower?
There’s a wildcard: Johnny Storm. Yes, the Human Torch. In the comics, Johnny once got so hot that he melted Sentry’s eyeballs. While he has no current MCU scaling, his power potential—especially with today’s VFX—could position him as a high-tier rival if Marvel leans into it. We’ll know more when his solo arcs kick off.
Final Verdict
Based on everything available, Sentry is top three in raw firepower. But if we’re talking actual dominance across the multiverse? Only Scarlet Witch and Loki appear to stand above him—Wanda via reality warping, and Loki through narrative-level multiversal control. Anyone else—including Thanos, Thor, or Strange—is either a maybe or an outright “no.”
Sentry’s reign is real... but it won’t be absolute.
