BOX OFFICE: TRANSFORMERS: AOE Could Be On Track For A $100M Opening Weekend

It may have been blasted by critics, (currently sitting at 17% on Rotten Tomatoes) but that hasn't stopped the public from coming out in droves for Michael Bay's latest Transformers flick. After a strong Friday opening, "AgeOf Extinction" might juts reach a whopping $100M over the weekend.

Michael Bay's Transformers movies have always made a ton of cash, while being critically panned. Of course it's not unusual for general audiences to completely go against the critical consensus, but the funny thing is, most of the people over 15 that I know hate the damn things too! Bay has admitted that he makes these movies for teenage boys, and I guess there must be quite a lot of 'em spending their pocked money this weekend! Deadline report that after rolling out into 4,233 theaters on around 10,000 screens, "Age Of Extinction" is now estimated to have a $40M Friday on track for around a $100M weekend. Many think bad WOM will hinder that, but it didn't seem to hurt the previous two flicks. Will you be seeing Transformers: Age Of Extinction this weekend?

TRANSFORMERS: AGE OF EXTINCTION is the fourth film in director Michael Bay’s global blockbuster franchise. Mark Wahlberg, Stanley Tucci, Li Bingbing , Kelsey Grammer, Sophia Myles, T. J. Miller, Nicola Peltz, Jack Reynor and Titus Welliver star. The film begins after an epic battle that left a great city torn, but with the world saved. As humanity picks up the pieces, a shadowy group reveals itself in an attempt to control the direction of history… while an ancient, powerful new menace sets Earth in its crosshairs. With help from a new cast of humans, Optimus Prime and the Autobots rise to meet their most fearsome challenge yet. In an incredible adventure, they are swept up in a war of good and evil, ultimately leading to a climactic battle across the world.

Transformers: Age Of Extinction is directed by Michael Bay, from a script by Ehren Kruger. The cast includes: Mark Wahlberg, Kelsey Grammar, Nicola Peltz, Stanley Tucci and Jack Reynor. The movie is et for release on June 27th, 2014.

Why?!...why are idiots supporting this movie?
The entire franchise has been garbage, did they think adding Whalberg who did it for a big payday, would suddenly make it good?

The general audience & some brainwashed wanna-be Trans Fans keep making this crap successful. It needs to stop. Fools.

What was AoE fridays' midnight showing? If it was higher than 10 mil it is a good indicator that it will reach 100 mill.

It's eye candy that goes boom. What else says "summer" besides that? Mosquitoes?

Of course, there is the other side to this argument

Saw this two nights ago

It tried to be funny. We walked out of the theatre and everyone was just bashing the sh*t out of this film. Absolutely hilarious, wish I saw Jump Street instead.

AoE Friday midnight showing was 8.7 mil, that's lower than Cap and around the same DOFP. I think this will movie make around 90 to 93 mil. only if it opens to 40 mil on Friday it could reach 100 mil, but based midnight showings and based on how off box office tracking has been this summer I highly doubt it. I could be wrong, but I don't think AoE will break the century mark.

I saw it. It was what I expected. And, what I was expecting was NOT Shakespeare, so I had that going for me:) I, occasionally, need to see shit blown up. It soothes me. My main gripe was that they missed their opportunity to make Mark Wahlberg "feel the vibrations".

the movie needs a much better story. this one feels like someone just said its time to make number 4 and just came up with anything. just make big explosions, big fights some chase scenes and not much more. oh except for the bad language, it is not for little kids to see. number 1 was great, number 3 was great. number 2 and 4 are just ok but nothing special.

I saw it last night. It's good, but too many human solo scenes in it. More than the original trilogy.

When you get the bot scenes, you can see how perfect these movies would be without organisms in it. But that would cost a hell of a lot to make a full movie in this beautiful style CGI (which was so superior).

I give it a 3.5 out of 5 (really only cause of all the solo human scenes).

And there is some brutal autobot killling like there was in the first animated Transformers movie from the 80s

Just remember, many were also predicting that TASM 2 and DoFP would break the $100 million mark, and they ended up not even getting to $95 million for their opening 3-day weekend (DoFP opened Memorial Day weekend, and if you add Monday to it since it was a 4-day weekend, it had around $120 million. But for just Friday-Sunday, including Thursday night, it only had around $93 million.) So I'm gonna wait till the actual figures come in on Monday before I start talking about it breaking the $100 million mark.

For those of you that think Transformers should have a better story and director and all that, you need to remember something. Transformers are a bunch of TOYS that look like cars or planes or something else, and then change into robots that fight each other. What, you expect them to write the equivalent of Hamlet for them? Do you want female Transformers so that Optimus Prime and Bumblebee can have a love story? They're TOYS! These are movies about TOYS! If you really want a movie about TOYS, expect a movie that has little in the way of plot and has a lot of action and explosions. Considering that they are TOYS, I thought Bay and the writers did a good job coming up with a story for them in the first and third films (the second, ehhhh.....not so much.) Haven't seen AoE, not sure if I will (I didn't see the third until it was on EPIX), but that's mainly because I just don't like Transformers that much. I'm not looking forward to a different director rebooting Transformers. I'm hoping that someday we don't have Transformer movies at all. TOYS, these are movies about TOYS, which is just fundamentally stupid, no matter who makes them.

Well, he is making it obvious who his target audience is. That is one thing I have to applaud the man on. He isn't trying to make this franchise something it isn't. There has never been anything particularly exceptional about American cartoons, especially when compared to anime. The thing about G.I. Joe, Transformers, and, TMNT is they were just better than the alternative at the time AND, those of us who were fans way back then, our standards were much lower. Don't get me wrong. There are some gems, but, they are few and far between in restrospect. And, once again, many still would be thanks to our friends in Japan.

On the other hands, I think there is a market for a mature audience that grew up on the original series. For that, he would have to alter the franchise to have it grow with the audience or give a truly faithful adaptation close to the G1 series. Either way, I'd wager that many ppl would be dissatisfied with his effort.

In any event, I just hope it doesn't flat out bomb because I would like to see a different interpretation in my lifetime. Even if it does flop (which is unlikely), I believe the franchise has already made enough money for them to consider a reboot eventually. That's all I have to look forward to.
