DUNE: PART TWO's Rebecca Ferguson To Co-Star In Amazon's Sci-Fi Thriller MERCY Alongside Chris Pratt

After Rebecca Ferguson's captivating portrayal of Lady Jessica, Paul Atreides' Bene Gesserit mother, in Dune: Part Two, audiences in North America are starting to take note of her immense talent.

Previously, the Swedish actress gained a bit of notoriety for her role as MI6 operative Ilsa Faust in the Tom Cruise-led Mission: Impossible film series with appearances in Rogue Nation (2015), Fallout (2018), and Dead Reckoning Part One (2023).

Now, it seems Ferguson is destined to soar to new heights due to her scene-stealing performance in Dune: Part Two which is already generating buzz for next year's award season.

Amazon wisely signed Ferguson to co-star in the forthcoming science fiction thriller Mercy with Chris Pratt (Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, Jurassic World Dominion) while she's poised for what looks to be a significant increase in her Hollywood stock.

With a futuristic setting, Mercy will see Pratt portray a detective who is accused of a violent crime and forced to prove his innocence. Not much else is known about the film but it seems artificial intelligence will play a critical role in the film.  Per Deadline, the Marco van Belle (Arthur & Merlin) written pic has a big sci-fi slant. Timur Bekmambetov (Wanted) is directing.

There are no details on who Ferguson is portraying but Deadline notes that Amazon has high expectations for the film and will give the feature a theatrical release before it hits Prime Video.

Production on Mercy is expected to begin this Spring.

In a previously released press statement, Jennifer Salke, head of Amazon MGM Studios remarked, "From the moment Chuck Roven brought us Mercy and we read Marco van Belle’s script, we knew the film was meant for the big screen."

She added, “As our relationship with The Terminal List and The Tomorrow War’s Chris Pratt continues to extend across film, we can’t wait to watch him bring this action-packed story to life, guided by Chuck and the vision of director Timur Bekmambetov. We could not imagine a better star and filmmaking team to execute on and deliver what is sure to be a gripping thrill ride and look forward to audiences being able to experience it in theaters.

Charles Roven (The Dark Knight Rises trilogy, Oppenheimer) is producing the film and added, "I could not be more thrilled to partner with Amazon MGM Studios on the release of Mercy. I have a longstanding working relationship with both motion picture and marketing chiefs Courtenay Valenti and Sue Kroll— whom have institutional knowledge of theatrical and proven track records of success at the box office. I am looking forward to reuniting with them in this new capacity, along with Jen Salke and the rest of the terrific team at Amazon MGM."

She was really, really good in this movie. Talkng to her unborn, but fully cognizant daughter, was really creepy.

@Nomis929 - i found it wicked creepy... but in a good way

@MotherGooseUPus - No doubt. It a change form the book, but it worked well within the movie.

@Nomis929 - oh wow, i had no idea, never read any of the books... but for the movie, it def worked in a great way

@MotherGooseUPus - Oh Yeah, in the Book, the child is born and has full powers of an adult Bene Gesserit Reverend Mother before Paul take over as Emperor.

And she is the one who Kills the Baron.

@Nomis929 - well now that is certainly different than the movie. honestly this sounds cool too... but what i think Dennis did for the movie prob works better. but good to know

@Nomis929 - Jessica and Alia are both super creepy.

If they make it as far as Children of Dune, Taylor-Joy will have some fun stuff to chew on.

Nomis929 - 3/6/2024, 1:18 PM
@mountainman - Very true. It be interesting to see Taylor-Joy portay the Baron's personality influencing her actions.

But I have a Feeling Denis Villeneuve is going to stop at Dune: Messaih. They can continue the movies with another director but whoever that is will have some big shoees to fill.

@Nomis929 - I think Children and God Emperor (don’t care after those two books) should be directed by someone who can really embrace the weird aspects to them. Nobody particular in mind, but a director change after Messiah could be a good thing.

Kind of like how the Harry Potter movies had different directors for different movies that got darker as the kids/books did.

@mountainman - Yeeah, the stories get really, really weird after Messiah and that saying a lot for these stories being weird to begin with.

Although seeing LetoII as a hybrid human sandworm on screen would be interesing. LOL!

Ironically, the first director to come to my mind is David Lynch, who directed teh 1984 movie ersion.

mountainman - 3/6/2024, 2:35 PM
@Nomis929 - Lynch wouldn’t do it. But yeah he could be a good fit.

I heard someone say Nolan, but I think he’s too grounded. We need someone that can embrace the weird.

@mountainman - I don't get how you bring in Taylor Joy for Messiah if it's only 12 years later. And even if you time skip further it's gonna be awkward with Paul not aging basically at all
McMurdo
McMurdo - 3/6/2024, 3:32 PM
@mountainman - only Peter Jackson could pull it off
Nomis929
Nomis929 - 3/6/2024, 3:36 PM
@mountainman - Yeah, I'm a huge Nolan fan, but I don't think he would, as you say, "embrace the Weird".

What do you think about Yorgos Lanthimos?

He's pretty much on everybody radar right now with'Poor things" getting nominated for Best pic.

mountainman - 3/6/2024, 4:56 PM
@Nomis929 - I haven’t seen poor things, so no opinion.

An idea I just had would be Robert Eggers. He is great at embracing weird.

@McMurdo - The aging up thing could be complicated. Especially since both Chalamet and Taylor Joy look younger than they are.

More Rebecca Furguson is always a good thing...

Her turn in the film creeped me out. It is so weird because I guess the first film set her up as an unwilling pawn of the machinations of powerful people only to turn that on its head. She did an awesome job and I hope she gets more appreciation for her contributions to the story than people have given her so far. From the very beginning the cast of the film really started to point to something special. She was perfectly cast and has been one of the standouts of the film.
McMurdo
McMurdo - 3/6/2024, 3:34 PM
@Forthas - she was never an unwilling pawn. She had a male born child of Duke Leto against the orders of her sect.
Forthas
Forthas - 3/6/2024, 3:42 PM
@McMurdo - I think she was...She had to have her son's life put in danger because of Paul's dreams. Then the love of her life is killed, and then she is forced risk her life on the run in the desert and then to take the water of life or risk being killed. In a sense her life was under the control of various people and circumstances. It kind of makes sense that she would seek to gain control over her destiny to protect herself and Paul. For me the change was jarring but like I stated, it makes a lot of sense.
McMurdo
McMurdo - 3/6/2024, 6:05 PM
@Forthas - she was fully aware of her husbands life being in danger prior to going to Arakis. She's Bene Gesserit. She knew more than anyone else in House Atreidis arguably about what would enfold when taking over spice op on Arakis.
Forthas
Forthas - 3/7/2024, 12:37 AM
@McMurdo - They all suspected that it was a trap, but she and Leto thought they could avoid it. That is not the same as knowing what will happen which she did not.

I guess it’s a “ Wanted” reunion between Timur & Pratt then…

Rebecca Ferguson is always a good addition to anything so nice to have her in here aswell.

We’ll see about the film itself since the premise seems generic aside from the sci fi slant to it…

I have heard that it’s set in the world in which capital punishment for crimes has increased too which could up the stakes for Pratt’s character.

Looking like Dune 2 brought in a solid $7,302,230 on Monday. A bit behind Oppenheimer's 12+ Million on its first Monday but Oppenheimer was during summer months when a lot of young people were out of school. I am thinking a lot of that ground will be made up during the weekend. I am predicting $55 million domestic for Dune 2 for this coming weekend which will win the box office for a second week...and the movie opens in China and I am thinking will open with around $10 million. So by the end of the weekend it should be at about $350 million.

@Polaris - Silo was so much better than I expected. Started a little bit cliche dystopian scifi, but it found its footing in the 2nd half.
