THE BOYS Star Jack Quaid Shares Bloody New Season 5 Set Photo

It probably won't shock you to learn that Hughie is going to end up covered in blood at some point during the fifth and final season of The Boys...

If there's one thing you can count on in every season of The Boys, it's Hughie Campbell winding up covered in blood.

Cameras have been rolling on the fifth and final season of the Prime Video series since last November, and star Jack Quaid has now shared a new behind-the-scenes photo from the set.

Though the image doesn't provide any context, it seems pretty clear that Hughie will be taking yet another bloodbath when the show returns next year.

In the season 4 finale, Hughie and most of his teammates were captured by Homelander's forces (these slightly spoiler-y set photos reveal where they were most likely sent), leaving only Annie January - now powered back up as Starlight - and Billy Butcher on the lam. With the latter on a crusade to wipe out all Supes, it's probably going to be up to Annie to rescue Hughie and the others.

Check out Quaid's Instagram photo below.

Though filming has been underway for a while, showrunner Eric Kripke revealed that the scripts are still being written during a recent interview with Collider.

"I mean, look - things adjust all the time. So, that doesn't really scare us. That's pretty par for the course. You're always rewriting these things right up until the day before they shoot, and sometimes, the day they shoot. So, we're used to changing things as the world changes - but yes, we definitely adjust scripts as new events come to light.”

While speaking to TV Guide about his plans for the final season earlier this year, Kripke was asked if he's already decided who is going to survive and who will come to a no-doubt messy end.

"Anyone who dies in season 5 will richly deserve it. We have a certain sense of who live and who dies, but we don't have it all totally figured out. But you get to do the final season of a show and go out on your own terms, so not everyone's making it through."

Potential spoilers follow.

In the comics, pretty much every major character aside from Hughie and Starlight dies, with Billy Butcher ultimately becoming a full-blown villain and taking out most of his own team. The Prime Video series has never been a particularly faithful adaptation, however, so we can't see Kripke being quite so merciless.

Yes, Butcher did embrace his darker side in the season 4 finale, but if he does go down - and we'd say both him and Homelander checking out is a given - there will surely be some redemption involved.

How would you like to see The Boys wrap-up? Drop us a comment down below.

"The world is on the brink. Victoria Neuman is closer than ever to the Oval Office and under the muscly thumb of Homelander, who is consolidating his power," reads the official season 4 synopsis. "Butcher, with only months to live, has lost Becca’s son as well as his job as The Boys’ leader. The rest of the team are fed up with his lies. With the stakes higher than ever, they have to find a way to work together and save the world before it’s too late."

Returning cast members include Karl Urban, Jack Quaid, Antony Starr, Erin Moriarty, Jessie T. Usher, Laz Alonso, Chace Crawford, Tomer Capone, Karen Fukuhara, Colby Minifie, Claudia Doumit, and Cameron Crovetti, along with new recruits Susan Heyward, Valorie Curry, and Jeffrey Dean Morgan.

Personally season 4 kind of killed whatever hype I had left in this show. Didn’t even finish it, I just don’t care anymore. The writers simply do not know what to do with at least 3 characters.

I liked Season 4. Usually, I don't care for shows that don't end their conflict within one season (Negan was dope, but we didn't need two seasons of he and Rick's fight), but Season 4 really kept me intrigued. Butcher has been vulnerable, but I like seeing the tough guy at his lowest. There must be one hell of a redemption arc, or a sacrifice in the plans.

@JayLemle - agreed , I liked it aswell

I’m thinking he dies taking out Homelander and The Biys disband and move on with their lives with Annie & Hughie adopting Ryan and teaching him to be a proper hero.

@TheVisionary25 - that would be a fitting ending. Do you think Soldier Boy will have a change of heart and work to defeat Homelander?

For context, this is a series I have not collected or read. If that guess about Soldier Boy is from the books, that's just a coincidence.

@JayLemle - the show is very different from the comics so you don’t have to worry about that

he was trying to kill him at the end of S3 so I can see Homelander trying to get his dads approval now and not be the dissapointment he thought he was which I could see Soldier Boy liking and this being on his side till the end.

Lost interest after season 2 but still watched season 3. Just a boring show. We get it, all the supes are sexual deviant racists.

Hoping that blood belongs to Soldier Boy or his loser son Homelander.

@NinnesMBC - Soldier Boy is Homelander’s dad ,not the reverse lol

As much as I enjoy both characters ,The latter especially needs a gruesome satisfying death

It ain’t a season of The Boys if Hughie doesn’t get covered i blood at some point lol.

Anyway , I have liked Jack Quaid’s version of the character so hope he gets a happy ending especially after losing his dad last season and the [frick]ed up sex thing he went through at Tek Knights mansion.

Season 4 was disappointing but I’ll still watch the final season out of habit.

Season four was mainly filler but I enjoyed it. I really like this show. It’s refreshing, I dig it. Looking forward to the finale. I really can’t wait to see homelander’s fate. Will the showrunners mimic the finale of the comic or will they go a different route? Time will tell….
