In The Boys' season 3 finale, Soldier Boy was placed back in stasis, a disappointing ending for Jensen Ackles' Captain America knock-off.
We've long wondered whether the character would be given another chance to shine in season 4, especially as there's obviously more story to tell with Homelander's predecessor. According to the Supernatural alum (via Entertainment Weekly), he's shot a cameo role for the upcoming spin-off series, Gen V.
"Soldier Boy pops up for a brief moment in this new spin-off of The Boys," Ackles teased. "In fact, there's a few cameos from the mothership that come into this spin-off. My little bit there was heavily [improvised]."
He'd go on to confirm that The Boys showrunner Eric Kripke was on set when he was filming, adding: "He and I were just, like, we were spitballing ideas and workshopping literally in between takes and coming up with a whole variety of takes."
It's possible Soldier Boy will only appear in archival footage, though we can't help but wonder whether the anti-hero has perhaps been defrosted and given a second chance. If nothing else, we'd like to think this cameo sets the stage for something more in The Boys' upcoming fourth season.
Gen V is set at America's only college exclusively for superheroes, run by Vought International. Gen V is an irreverent, R-rated series that explores the lives of hormonal, competitive Supes as they put their physical, sexual and moral boundaries to the test, competing for the best contracts in the best cities.
It’s part college show, part Hunger Games - with all the heart, satire, and raunch of The Boys.
Other cameos confirmed in the first teaser trailer include Jessie T. Usher's A Train, Colby Minifie's PR spin artist Ashley Barrett, and P.J. Byrne's filmmaker Adam Bourke.
Gen V will premiere on Prime Video later this year.
