The Walking Dead creator Robert Kirkman was a guest on tonight's episode of The Talking Dead. During his appearance he revealed Daryl Dixon's sexual orientation, thereby putting an end to the speculation. Come check it out.
Over the past several months, there has been a lot of discussion centered around Daryl Dixon's sexual orientation. Is he gay, straight, bisexual, or asexual? This began in August when a fan asked Robert Kirkman if Daryl Dixon was gay. He answered in the back of issue #130 of The Walking Dead comic book, saying that "it’s been discussed." A few weeks later, showrunner Scott M. Gimple said Daryl's sexuality will not be addressed in season five. In September, Norman Reedus, the actor that plays Daryl, revealed that former showrunner, Frank Darabont, had discussions on this matter and wanted Daryl to be "prison gay."
Tonight, Robert Kirkman was a guest on The Talking Dead and he decided this was a good enought time as ever to reveal Daryl's sexuality.
Daryl Dixon is being somewhat asexual on the show, he’s a very introverted character and I think that’s somewhat his appeal… I just wanted to make it clear that the possibility is there and I would’ve been fine with it, the network would have been fine with it, but we ultimately didn’t do that. I can make it official, Daryl Dixon is actually straight, but coming back in the next half of the season we’re going to be introducing a very prominent gay character from the comics that’ll be debuting. - (transcribed by vixenvarsity.com)
