Robert Kirkman Discusses Negan Appearing On THE WALKING DEAD

The Governor (David Morrisey) has come and gone but readers of the Kirkman comic book know there's an even nastier villain around the corner. How soon before Negan and Lucille terrorize Rick (Andrew Lincoln) and co.?

Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, Robert Kirkman spoke about the chances of Negan appearing on AMC's The Walking Dead. "Well, there was a lot of breathing room in the comics between them,” says Kirkman on that very subject. He continued, "Whether or not we have the same amount of breathing room, or if we do cut that down a little bit and bring him into the show a little early remains to be seen. But I definitely do think there needs to be some kind of space from a Governor into a Negan. You have to have something of a break in there. So I wouldn’t expect him to be showing up — definitely not in season 4. I don’t know. I wouldn’t expect it too soon. But we are all very excited about the prospect of bringing that guy into the show. The plan is that we will see him eventually."

So, no Negan in Season 4 but what about Season 5? Perhaps we will see some teasers or easter eggs in the back-half of the new season foreshadowing Negan and the Saviors impending arrival. There are rumors currently swirling about that once the main survivor groups are introduced on the show, there will be a movie produced depicting their climactic confrontation currently being played out in the ongoing Image Comics series from Kirkman and Charlie Adlard. But we're still a couple of seasons away from that occurring at least.

When do you want to see Negan introduced and who would you pick to play him?

The Walking Dead will return in February.
