Robert Kirkman Discusses Negan Appearing On THE WALKING DEAD

The Governor (David Morrisey) has come and gone but readers of the Kirkman comic book know there's an even nastier villain around the corner. How soon before Negan and Lucille terrorize Rick (Andrew Lincoln) and co.?

Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, Robert Kirkman spoke about the chances of Negan appearing on AMC's The Walking Dead. "Well, there was a lot of breathing room in the comics between them,” says Kirkman on that very subject. He continued, "Whether or not we have the same amount of breathing room, or if we do cut that down a little bit and bring him into the show a little early remains to be seen. But I definitely do think there needs to be some kind of space from a Governor into a Negan. You have to have something of a break in there. So I wouldn’t expect him to be showing up — definitely not in season 4. I don’t know. I wouldn’t expect it too soon. But we are all very excited about the prospect of bringing that guy into the show. The plan is that we will see him eventually."

So, no Negan in Season 4 but what about Season 5? Perhaps we will see some teasers or easter eggs in the back-half of the new season foreshadowing Negan and the Saviors impending arrival. There are rumors currently swirling about that once the main survivor groups are introduced on the show, there will be a movie produced depicting their climactic confrontation currently being played out in the ongoing Image Comics series from Kirkman and Charlie Adlard. But we're still a couple of seasons away from that occurring at least.

When do you want to see Negan introduced and who would you pick to play him?

The Walking Dead will return in February.

Negan should be played by Brian Bloom. The guy who played Pike in the A-Team, and voices Black Mask in Arkham Origins.

Comic book Governor was much better.

@Tyrus I agree, his episodes were unnecessary this season. They broke up the flow of the show. Also if they could give Tyreese something to do, that'd be great. He's suffering from what I like to call "T-dog syndrome."

@ greenlanternsF

The writers said the more beloved the character the more brutal the death would be.

I'm with @BlackOP on this one, Brian Bloom be a cool choice. He was such a dick in the A-Team he'd be fit well in this role. The show will most likely either save Glenn or give someone else the ol' head smash (but I'm hoping not). Hershel filling in the Tyrese move really got me in the feels so they could change it too.

This last saga of the comics is my favorite, not only can I not wait to see the type of shit negan does but Jesus and Ezekiel are awesome too. Season 5 needs to be all about arriving in Washington and the shift of power n such. Negan might be like the last episode of sewson 5, plus that way it gives the comics time to get ahead

I hope they don't make a movie that is in line with the show. It will pull away from it and not really be the same. If you have seen Dead Like Me then the movie they made for it you'll understand my discomfort.

Bobby Cannavale. Watch him on last seasons Boardwalk Empire and he pretty much was Negan.

Negan is a terrible lifeless character. I'd rather have the Governor somehow survive and return in place of Negan. Their philosophies are nearly identical.

If they do bring in Negan I hope he kills Rick of Carl the way he did Glen in the comic. Glen is at least a character that is not annoying. Carl should have died seasons ago and Rick just sucks, damn mopey bastard.

There is no way in hell you can do Negan justice on the small screen... Not when every other word out of his mouth is "[frick]"...

I would think the hunters would be the second half of season 4 maybe first half of season 5 with Maybe Negan coming in as Charlie2094 said in season 6.. There are so many things they can cover.
