Robert Kirkman Teases "Radical Changes" In Season Four Of THE WALKING DEAD

In an interview with IGN TV to discuss the shocking season three finale of The Walking Dead this past Sunday, creator Robert Kirkman has dropped more hints about what we should expect from the show when it returns later this year. There's plenty of intriguing hints and details here, although we shouldn't expect anything too concrete until the first trailer is unveiled at this year's San Diego Comic Con. Below are a few highlights from this latest Q&A. The full version can of course be found by clicking on the link at the bottom of the page! What are you most excited to see?

On How Big Of A Role The Governor Will Play In Season Four:

"Yeah, he’s still very much in the mix. That’s certainly not the last that we’ll see of him. When we see him again and where we see him again, that’s the big question. It’s not going to be like it was in Season 3; it’s not going to be Rick and the Governor on a collision course with a conflict between them. He’ll be used in very different ways next season."

On Where We Will Pick Up With Rick And Carl When The Series Returns:

"Rick has had a success. The people at the prison have survived this conflict with the Governor, he brought people from Woodbury into the prison, and he’s kind of had this big win. He’s had this moment where he’s brought people together and he’s doing good things. But he’s had this tremendous loss in that Carl has lost this piece of his humanity. This has been Rick’s main mission throughout the show, to protect his family. We’ve seen two very big failures on that front this season. Moving into next season, we’re going to see a very different Rick, but one of his main goals is to manage this situation with Carl and see if he can bring him back from this darkness that’s crept into him. Whether or not he’s able to do that, we’ll have to see. But this is a big change in the character of Carl, but it’s something that’s going to be weighing heavily on Rick next season."

On Whether We Will Now See The Relationship Between Rick And Tyreese Develop:

"Yeah, I think that really is something that comic book fans can use to kind of draw out some information on where we might be going with Season 4. Now that these two characters are together and are on the same side, we will see a little bit more of that comic book relationship that fans are familiar with creeping into the show."

On What The Woodbury Residents Moving To The Prison Will Mean:

"A bigger group brings with it bigger problems. They are certainly going to need a lot more resources, and they already have a lot of rebuilding to do, just from the things that happened in this battle between Woodbury and the prison. I don’t think there’s going to be a shortage of conflict and danger coming into the fourth season, despite the fact that they are still in the prison."

On What We Should Expect From Season Four Of The Walking Dead:

"I’ll say that there are a lot of familiar elements that are remaining. Michonne is still around, Rick and his group are still in the prison, the Governor’s still out there… so there are a lot of things that are carrying over from Season 3 to Season 4, but I can’t stress how different things are going to be. There are going to be some radical changes to those elements that are going to bring in a lot of new storytelling. While [Season 4] does seem somewhat familiar, it’s going to be vastly different from Season 3."

I kinda wish they kept Andrea alive just to build more character for her. Maybe then people would begin to like her more. And THEN give her the big, dramatic death. While I thought it was sad when she died, I know a lot of people who said they were happy she got killed off. I don't know... I just wish something more was done with the character.

Why is everyone focused on Andrea so much?

Am I the only one who thinks that is the least of this show's problems right now?

People bitch about her being dead because she was a shitty character in the show. Nothing about her was good in season 3.

Didn't like how they concluded the Governor/Rick confrontation. A clearly better armed force gets chased out by two people with guns? That just didn't make any sense. Watching that whole thing unfold, it felt like the writers just didn't care. They were like, "Okay, so here we are, the final battle that we've needlessly drawn out. The Governor and his men are shooting up the prison and then.... ... ... yeah, and then they run away and like... psssshhhh.. I dunnow .... fffffff ..... then he shoots his own men and runs off into the sunset."

I can't wait till October. This is one of my favorite shows of all time. I wonder what the Governor is going to do now that he left.

On a side note David Morrisey (the Governor) looks kind of like Nick Fury.

"On a side note David Morrisey (the Governor) looks kind of like Nick Fury."

Is it because of the eye-patch?

I always thought Nick Fury (Sam Jackson) looks kind of like a pirate. A black pirate.

That season finale was terrible and I hope they enjoy Atlanta 2.0 in the prison. With all those new people in there, it takes just one bite for everything to go to shit.

I love this Show

but i cant help but notice that a zombie TV show is kinda forgetting about the real threat of the Zombie Apocalypse, its like zombies are now just a nuisance then a real threat when there are millions of them out there :/
KingEmperor
KingEmperor - 4/3/2013, 1:13 AM
They'll probably find a way to narrow down to a few main and supporting characters in the Prison group in S4. Maybe another zombie wave outbreak to get rid of the extras like they did with the Atlanta group before moving out to find the CDC camp.

The zombies were never meant to be the main threat. The Title 'The Walking Dead' is as much about the humans as the zombies, as much as I enjoy a bit of gut munching zombie action from time to time if that's all the show was it would get tiresome. Watching society collapse it what the show's primarily about IMO.

I enjoyed the finale but more in retrospect than at the time. It felt more like another episode than the grand finale to a season.

Wouldn't the actor that plays the Governor make a great run at re-making a classic John Wayne film such as The Searchers?
