ARROW Female-Led Spinoff Starring Katherine McNamara, Katie Cassidy & Juliana Harkavy In The Works

It looks like The CW may plan to put together a Birds of Prey-style team for the small screen, as it's been announced that an Arrow spinoff featuring three of the show's female characters is in the works.

First teased at the recent TCA, it's now been officially confirmed that The CW is working on an Arrow spinoff centered around three of the show's female characters.

According to multiple sources, Katherine McNamara, Katie Cassidy and Juliana Harkavy are set to reprise their respective roles of Mia Smoak/Green Arrow and Canaries Laurel Lance and Dinah Drake, respectively. The untitled (potential) series is set to air as a backdoor pilot in Arrow's upcoming final season, which premieres on October 15.

We're not sure when the show will be set, but if it takes place in the future or time-travel is involved, there's a decent chance Oliver Queen's son William (Ben Lewis) and Diggle's adopted son Connor Hawke (Joseph David-Jones) will also feature.

Although they probably wouldn't be able to call this show "Birds of Prey" even if they wanted to, it does essentially appear to be a small-screen take on that all-female team.

What do you guys think of this news? Sound off in the usual place.

I was pretty sure Batwoman was a Arrow female led spin-off.

This is great news to hear, that one episode last season set almost entirely in Star City 2040 felt very much like, and was even essentially confirmed as a backdoor test pilot for a potential SC 2040 spinoff show, so great to see this happening. And I for one enjoyed the flashforwards and thought that Katie McNamara did a good job.

This will help keep the legacy of Arrow alive in the Arrowverse. And yeah, I expect to see much of the rest of the future crew returning, especially fellow Canary Zoe Ramirez and Connor Hawke. And adult William seems likely too.

As a life long DC fan who begrudgingly watches all the CW shows I can’t say I’m excited for more crapola.

DC has been so disappointing lately

And to all those who are gonna say it’s WB or AT&T or it’s CW, ultimately it’s DC that suffers.. that’s the problem when there’s too many cooks in the kitchen, you never know who messed up the dish.

2040 episodes were the most boring part of last season. I'll pass.

@RageDriver2401 - I'd venture to say even painful. The lady playing Oliver's daughter took over acting to a new level. I also think they paid some high school drama dept. to do the aging makeup as well. I REALLY hope it doesn't play into the final season.

@Philvis - God the aging make-up. You see shows like This is Us doing it and then you see this show the next day and I'm like what the balls?

I'm only slightly curious about this because it will also star E2 Laurel and Dinah, if it is only going to revolve around the one-note and edgy annoying Olicity offspring that is Mia then I've got no interest. William is more interesting. But still , Mark Pedowitz said they had no plans for another show back in August around the TCA, so what happened?

Besides that the future setting that Arrow showed was far from an enthusiastic one and too bleak to care about fighting for it. All that Oliver did in the present was for nothing. Unless Crisis on Infinite Earths changes literally everything by the time the smoke clears and there's actually a chance of restoring things in that future.

And if I wanted a future set series, a Legion of Superheroes is more compelling and exciting which actually feels like it has been a slow-burn build up with every Season that goes by in Supergirl.

Another thing to consider here is that this Future BoP show and it's potential lies on how exactly the DCEU's take on it on February will be handled. And considering how things continue to look lukewarm on that front from the changes in design to characters and their characters (Cassandra Cain specially) and how it is nothing but a cover for Margot Robbie's Harley to get more exposure, maybe they feel quite confident it might not succeed so much that they are now proposing this.

Overall I'm mixed and lukewarm about this. It isn't like when Black Lightning and Batwoman was announced nor anywhere close to LoT and others, this is the first Arrowverse spin-off that I'm iffy about. If it wasn't because of Katie Cassidy and Juliana Harkavy, my interest would be zero.
