ARROW/FLASH Spinoff Aiming To Launch Midseason Next Year

ARROW/FLASH Spinoff Aiming To Launch Midseason Next Year

Is the Arrow/Flash spinoff currently in development at The CW a midseason hiatus miniseries a la Agent Carter? Plus, a tease for Arrow season 4 and a huge shift in the dynamic of Team Arrow.

While attending Planet Comicon  in Kansas City this past weekend, Stephen Amell told fans that the plan for the currently untitled, Arrow/Flash spinoff is for the show to "launch midseason next year."  Currently, the show is confirmed to star one-half of Firestorm (Victor Garber), Canary 1.0 (Caity Lotz), the Atom (Brandon Routh), Captain Cold (Wentworth Miller) with casting currently underway for  three additional DC Comics superheroes rumored to 'POSSIBLY' be Booster Gold, Static Shock and/or Fire.

A second interesting revelation from Amell, was his statement that the coolest moment in the show's history will be the trailer for season 4 that will be released at SDCC 2015.  They haven't filmed it yet, obviously, but Amell knows the direction the show is heading. Said Amell to fans in attendance,  "Without spoiling anything, I will say, I think the greatest moment in the history of the show will be the trailer that we show at Comic-Con this year.  I really do, because after three seasons and 69 episodes, we are going to fundamentally change the show at the grassroots level.  I think it's going to be cool."

Amell also teased that the show is currently filming what may be the end of the Diggle/Oliver bromance.  "There are things happening in the episodes that we're filming right now that are going to alter Oliver and Diggle's relationship forever." With Oliver and Diggle currently as close as brothers, it stands to reason that the biggest change in their dynamic would be for them to grow apart or even become adversaries.  It's also been strongly rumored that SPOILER:[ Diggle's wife, Lyla will be killed in an upcoming episode by the League of Assassins] so that could be the catalyst for the shift in their dynamic.  Amell jokingly added, "No, it's not Diggle becoming Green Lantern."

Ugh...Caity Lotz. She's hot, but one of the worst actresses I've ever seen. Even on the CW.

CWverse just isn't interesting enough for me... I had high hopes for The Flash, but the mellodramatic romance just felt too forced and that ruined it for me.

It's cool but a blatant "we want an avengers team up" sort of thing. It should be a miniseries IF it gets picked up. Wish it wasn't CW. I love arrow and flash but there is some Bad acting on that network

What if The Flash manages to go back in time and save his mom? This could create this series, which would be a sort of Flashpoint series where
-Sarah Lance is still alive
-The Atom is America's superhero (instead of Cyborg)
-Captain Cold is Central City's hero, Citizen Cold
- Professor Stein is a scientist investigating the Firestorm matrix as well as the idea of parallel worlds
-Maybe throw in Robert Queen as that universe's Arrow

And boom there's your show, which could actually be a 13 episode mini-series.

Soooo...thiers going to be 20 spinoffs off two shows creating spinoffs off spinoffs. Is thier even room on all cable network channels for all these shows?

Firestorm looked surprisingly awesome on the Flash. I'll check it out.

It's definitely going to be a Justice League type show with the characters they've already announced. And with Amell's "fundamentally change the show at the grassroots level" comment, I wouldn't be surprised if he dons the mantle of Grren Arrow and the pieces are put in place for the spin-off.

Or he becomes the new Ra's

I think they're doing WAY TOO MUCH. Flash hasn't even been here a full season...develop that more. Don't want to overdue things. These showrunner have flash, arrow and supergirl. I'd develop those more and more before giving this spinoff a thought. Arrow and flash are still tv babies...season 3 and 1 respectively. I honestly believe, these guys made flash amazing story wise it's first season, put so much into it that arrow suffered. No offense, but this season of arrow has been lagging.

How will a CW budget effectively support a mega series like this?????

I've often joked that The CW should just have Arrow spin-offs, but I think this show could work. The thing that worries me is that there's going to be a dearth of interesting secondary characters on both shows. As cool as The Flash and Green Arrow are, they need other heroes and villains to play off of. Nevertheless, I hope the show gets picked up, something else to watch.

They can't have two shows at the same time without one dropping in quality 70 percent and the other one being a mediocre crap fest...
It's gonna suck...

Sounds awesome, and if it's gonna be a show with a rotating cast and characters, I hope the Justice League Dark will eventually show up. And Matt Ryan still as Constantine.

There is. I tried to word it carefully, though.

So if it fills the gap like Agent Carter does then the budget should be a decent size. I like that idea.

@FirstAvenger probably, maybe? I don't know, but the producer did describe it as a maxiseries so you never know!
