Well, quite a bit happened in the Season Finale of The CW's Arrow. Malcolm Merlyn (John Barrowman) appeared to have his master plan for The Glades section of Starling City foiled but it turned out that he remained one step ahead of Oliver (Stephen Amell) to the very end. Or was it the end? And major kudos to the executive producer and writing team on Arrow for skillfully crafting certain fan expectations for Tommy (Collin Donnell) all season long, only to stand those expectations on their head during the season finale.

After a violent shipwreck, billionaire playboy Oliver Queen was missing and presumed dead for five years before being discovered alive on a remote island in the Pacific. When he returns home to Starling City, his devoted mother Moira, much-beloved sister Thea, and best friend Tommy welcome him home, but they sense Oliver has been changed by his ordeal on the island. While Oliver hides the truth about the man he’s become, he desperately wants to make amends for the actions he took as the boy he was. Most particularly, he seeks reconciliation with his former girlfriend, Laurel Lance. As Oliver reconnects with those closest to him, he secretly creates the persona of Arrow – a vigilante – to right the wrongs of his family, fight the ills of society, and restore Starling City to its former glory. By day, Oliver plays the role of a wealthy, carefree and careless philanderer he used to be – flanked by his devoted chauffeur/bodyguard, John Diggle – while carefully concealing the secret identity he turns to under cover of darkness. However, Laurel’s father, Detective Quentin Lance, is determined to arrest the vigilante operating in his city. Meanwhile, Oliver’s own mother, Moira, knows much more about the deadly shipwreck than she has let on – and is more ruthless than he could ever imagine.

Probably the best Season finale of a show I've seen in recent times!

I thought it was great. Really enjoyed the shootout fight scene with Ollie and Merlyn/Dark Archer. Can't wait for season 2!

Did Malcolm die or not? Some people say he passed out, others saw he died, and then Oliver tells Tommy that he didn't kill him... Which is it?

Excellent finale by the way, Supernatural's was just as good!

I'd prefer some hanging of cliffs. I like that the storyline resolved somewhat, but there wasn't much to look forward to (plot wise). It just ended with "well, everything sucks. Tommy's dead." @Cuban are you sure you're not Irish? Cause you came into another thread swingin.

@MJPETTY7
I think he died. Ollie just told Tommy he was alive to make him feel good.

Anyway, amazing finale. THIS is how a finale should be, tons of action, emotional, etc. A lot better than recent finales I've seen *cough*walking dead*cough*

If they could bring back Deadshot, they can definitely bring back Malcolm. The show needs a Merlyn and Tommy definitely died so I'd bet on Malcolm surviving. Unless Malcolm had an illegitimate bastard somewhere.

John Barrowman was signed on for season two as a regular if I'm correct?! So I think he just passed out...

Awesome finale. The show has continually gotten better and better throughout its run this season. I can't wait for Season 2! Give him a freakin mask already!

AxeiumTheory - 5/16/2013, 7:40 AM
lol because the face paint has worked out so well for him in the past! You're right though he does need to stop being called "The Hood" it annoys me.

I'd have to say they should tweak some stuff for season 2 I don't think that the superpowers should be ruled out completely because they could really do great with some characters and I was reading about how Ollie is going to adapt based off his experiences so let's look forward to a new nickname and a real domino mask instead of that stupid paint

Great season finale. This episode was a emotional roller coaster. They hit all the right points. Kudos to the writers for not going the predictable route that everyone thought it would go with Tommy. I told people the writers have not did what people expected the entire season and they did it once again.

Loved the way Tommy went out on this. Tommy grew as a person and stayed on the side of good instead of going in his father footstep. His mother death did not change his character for the wrong, all that stuff elevated his character to stay on the side of good. He hates people getting killed and the ones killing people and they stayed true to the character. Glad he tried to prevent his father from his plans even though he had 0% chance of stopping him. I dont know how he did that after listening to one of the most saddest voice-mails. I really felt Malcolm pain after hearing it. There was tears for him when he went away.

John Barrowman is a f'in boss son. He made me jump the same way Tommy did when he raised his voice to him. He has to come back. he is a fan favorite. People thought Green Arrow was going to prevent the glades from getting destroyed. Will this be Arrow version of No Man's Land. Hope the earthquake attract more villains to Star City. Lex could help rebuild it at least behind the scenes. Glad the writers let the villain accomplish his goal and stay one step ahead of the hero. Another kudos for not going the predictable route.

What a way to hear about your father's death through a press conference and in that circumstance of your mother confessing everything.

Wouldn't Maoira get off because she was being ransomed to partake into everything with her husband dying, another one getting kidnapped, and trying to protect her family?

I like where the character of Det. Lance ended up. He realized that the Hood is trying to help the city for the greater good.

All and all a fantastic season 1. Season 2 cannot come any sooner. Think they will pick up right where Season 1 left off hopefully.

@Wen
There are more entertainment for comic book stuff than just movies. DC has games and animated movies being made on a regular basis.

I would love to see The Question, but it better be Vic Sage and not Renee Montoya damn it. I love Nightwing but I do not want to see him on here unless he appears much younger then Oliver. I like the idea that if Batman is out there he is about the same age as Oliver.

I wonder what ever happened to that Deadman series they were talking about making. I know the Raven show was a no go which sucks because she is actually a really interesting character. Maybe once Supernatural goes off they can do a Supernatural DC show to replace it featuring characters like Deadman, Etrigan, The Spectre, Zatanna and Raven

@Griffin The actor that plays Oliver is 32 how old do you think Year One Batman should be? Bruce Wayne became Batman in his mid to late 20s.

I really hope Malcolm isn't dead. He's probably PROBABLY my favorite part about the show. Tommy, you know, he kind of had to buy the farm. My only complaint with the episode was Laurel, as always.

She shows up downstairs and Ollie's just like: "[frick], I really can't take her crying right now".

I think Malcom is going to break out and wreak havoc again, or he's going to slowly see the error of his ways.

Either way, we need to see him again, he is just a fantastic character for this show.

I'm hoping Malcolm isn't dead but for season 2 I'd prefer to see a new big bad. Even if Malcolm isn't dead he'll most likely be locked up so I'm expecting a new big bad for present day and a new big bad for the island now that Fyers is gone aswell.

Also glad they didn't go the Spiderman route with Tommy taking over from his father and becoming the new Dark Archer.

So, nobody mentions about the Ferris airline cameo?
Anyway, i think this is the best episode of season 1.

The last 3 episodes are just amazing.
It does turn to be more exciting than I expected.

I liked the episode, very good, but the ending disappointed me, kinda was waiting for something else, I don't, Deathstroke ? a big vilain ? the benefactor ? i don't know, something else...

Overall good season one finale.

Issues:
1.Tommy's death. Not sure where that came from but it was unexpected and also showed character growth, though who's gonna be Oliver's nemesis now?

2. Dinah/Laurel: Hot, but irritating. Sometimes her part in the show seems pointless such as that crap about her sister being alive. Puh-leeze.

3. Mask/Name: What is it with CW shows and calling the comic heroes anything but the name they should have. Example, Smallville's "The Blur". And why the heck do Huntress get an awesome mask and Green Arrow get stuck with a stupid ass name and face paint that's supposed to somehow protect his identity? In season two they should at least call him Arrow or I'll even take "Archer". But not "The Hood." jeez
