ARROW Showrunner Says Black Siren Is Out For Revenge In Season 7; Teases Her Dynamic With Black Canary
The Arrow Season 6 finale saw Oliver Queen's life change in a big way, but it also saw Black Siren experience loss, and that heartbreaking moment will motivate Laurel Lance in the upcoming seventh season.
Last season, Katie Cassidy's Black Siren towed the line between hero and villain, with Quentin Lance often acting as a conscience of sorts. However, as Diaz spiraled out of control, Earth 2's Laurel Lance found herself leaning more towards the light side.
But while many fans have speculated that Quentin's sacrifice in the Season 6 finale may lead Laurel down a more heroic path, the character didn't get much time to process the event before the episode wrapped.
As a result, audiences will have to wait for Arrow's return this fall to see the full effect of her father's passing. And according to showrunner Beth Schwartz, his death will drive Black Siren to get revenge.
"What we loved about Katie and the character from last year is that you never really know which side she's on. Is she good? Is she bad? She falls somewhere in between. And so this year, with Lance's death -- which was really sad, I'm still not over it -- she has a lot. You know, she's pissed. She's pissed at Diaz, so she has a grudge. And so we're gonna see her dealing with that. . . . Yeah, she's gonna play between good and bad again, and we're gonna see how that affects her when she wants to get revenge for Lance's death."
It definitely sounds like fans won't see the former villain suddenly behave altruistically, but Laurel will try to take down Diaz as she seeks vengeance, much like Black Canary did last season.
Speaking of whom, the evolving relationship between Dinah Drake and Laurel Lance was also teased by Schwartz: "You know, they are still definitely at odds, but yeah, there is going to be a shift there, for sure."
