ARROW's David Ramsey Talks 'Diggle', Masks & Those 'John Stewart' Rumors

Everyone's getting a mask on Arrow these days - and it seems like 'John Diggle' won't be left out! After teasing fans in the show's season finale on Wednesday, actor David Ramsey has promised Diggle will have a costume change for Season 4. Check out what he had to say!

Now that the dust has settled on Arrow's eventful Season 3 finale, fans have been left wondering about the crime-fighting future of one 'John Diggle' in particular. While the idea was briefly teased during a conversation between Diggle and his (former?) best pal Oliver Queen, David Ramsey has now confirmed that his character will indeed be operating under a mask next season.

Speaking to Comicbook.com at The CW's annual upfronts presentation on Thursday, Ramsey stressed the importance of preserving Diggle's secret identity while he's out catching the bad guys. "
I do think you need some kind of concealment," he claimed, "And to that end, they are working on something. You will see something for Diggle next year, season 4. You will."

But what mask will he wear? Earlier this year, there was a lot of speculation about Dig potentially taking up the mantle of a certain Green Lantern. Given the character's close partnership with Green Arrow in the comics (albeit as the 'Hal Jordan' incarnation), the rumors did appear to carry some weight. However, Ramsey maintained that this was never the plan:

"Everyone wants to talk about John Stewart. Is it “John Stewart Diggle” or “John Diggle Stewart” or whatever, and will he be Green Lantern? Marc Guggenheim has said publicly that it’s not the way to go right now. But people are still talking about it... I think they’ve taken great strides to making John Diggle part of the lexicon, and that’s an important thing. I don’t think you want to abandon that... I think there’s something very normal about him that’s part of the appeal. I think if you put a mask on him as part of the Green Lantern Corps, and that’s wonderful by the way – John Stewart is a wonderful character – but you lose some of that. You lose part of the “everyguy” character."

While he may have ruled out Green Lantern, Ramsey did go on to name-drop a few other (lesser known) DC Comics heroes as potential secret identity candidates - including the likes of 'Vigilante' and 'The Guardian'. Would you like to see Diggle step into the shoes of a pre-existing hero, or are you more of a fan of his 'everyman' aspect? As always, let us know down below!

Keep Diggle as Diggle! I honestly hate the fact that everyone on this show eventually becomes a Superhero.

No please, I don't think GL is TV material, he is a important part of the Justice Leauge, and shouldn't get a cheasy TV show. He is not on earth most of the time anyway, and I don't think they could pull off that kind of CGI on TV.

Flash mentioned a test pilot disappearing in the last episode. That's Hal. Diggle won't be Jon Stewart. If he is, then he won't be Green Lantern. That's my opinion.

I have thought Vigilante would be great and it's been kind of set up by making him a family man.

I would love Diggle as Green Lantern but I would love it even more if he was Guardian. Makes much more sense too.

@VictorMancha
Please gtfo. They've proved time and time again that they can pull off some pretty good CGI. Hell, getting fire effects right is one of the hardest things to do and they have with Heatwave and Firestorm. I'm sure making shit look green wouldnt be a problem.

Green Lantern is coming to DC's television universe. Probably wont be David Ramsey but with all the references to him lately on both Flash and Arrow (more so Flash) it's hard to deny that he is.

Just accept it, then cry/bitch/moan like the rest of the fanboys out there. The rest of us will enjoy our favorite comic book characters come to life. They might not be the perfect incarnation but hell, if you were to tell me 10 or 15 years ago that I would be getting a live-action Justice League on tv I would laugh in your face and tell you, you are full of shit.

If they make Diggle into Vigilante or Guardian, I really think they should give him General Eiling's mask. That thing was awesome and it would make sense for Star Labs to still have it, because Cisco doesn't waste tech and is the unofficial costumer.

If they keep him running around with Team Arrow in the streets he really should have some way to protect his identity.

Wildcat it's the only way to go. Diggle DEFINITELY need something to conceal his identity and a low key Wildcat would serve the purpose without upping the superpowers count.

As cool a twist as it would be to make him John Stewart, but I think Ramsey is 100% right about Diggle being his own guy and that you don't want to abandon what they've accomplished. In this time ,where the trend is to force diversity in such an abysmal non-organic way as simply changing white characters to black, Diggle represents a TRUE, fully fleshed out, and ORIGINAL character that gives real diversity.
Diggle can become iconic in his own right, something much needed in comics, film and tv. Just swapping out white characters with black actors or white characters with black characters wight he same name is a sign that racism continues. Making superheroes like Spiderman, Superman, Captain America etc. black for the sake of diversity is pandering and should be insulting to everyone. (whites lose a beloved character, blacks get a hand-me down character and it shows that no other race matters in the industry's eyes, it's a BS solution. Lets face it, Miles Morales Spiderman will NEVER be "SPIDERMAN", he will ALWAYS be "Miles Morales Spiderman", but simply change his name to something original and he can become iconic in his own right.)
Truly original characters like Diggle are fantastic and exactly what film and comics need to spark true diversity with exciting and original characters. He can become a new superhero, but dont cheapen that by making him the Guardian or Jon Stewart

Everyone wants Diggle to be John Stewart... Why does no one realize that won't/can't work? If they make him him Stewart then they have to change his entire backstory. "But what if Diggle was a nickname given to him in the Army or some other such nonsense about Diggle not being his real name?" OK fine. What about his brother, Andy DIGGLE, or his wife, Carlie DIGGLE? See, Diggle is not only the surname of that entire family, but John Diggle is now also his own character in the comics.

I'd enjoy seeing him as Guardian or Manhunter. As a Green Lantern John Stewart you make John Diggle one less new character. I want more black superheroes, not less.

Vigilante? You mean the cowboy? Nah. Guardian is by far and away the mantle to give him, if you don't make up an entirely new one. Guardian would fit into the Arrowverse really well, anyway.
