Is The ARROW Going To Become GREEN ARROW? Stephen Amell Hints At Season 4 Change

Many comic book purists have lamented the fact that Stephen Amell's Oliver Queen doesn't really embody the characteristics of comic book Oliver Queen. Perhaps these fans will get their wish in season 4.

From day one,  the Arrow showrunners have stated that The CW's Arrow is about Oliver Queen's journey to become Green Arrow.   Specifically, that Oliver Queen didn't return from the island as a wise-cracking, virtuous champion of the common man and that the show would be a deep examination of his transformation from outlaw vigilante to hero.  However, that still hasn't stopped a few longtime fans from deriding the show for not portraying the Ollie the know and love.  Well, Stephen Amell himself has told The Hollywood Reporter that starting with his sound defeat at the hands of Ra's Al Ghul (Matt Nable) Oliver is going to go through a mini-metamorposis that results in a complete overhaulof the Arrow's persona and methodology.  "[Oliver] comes back [to Starling City] having been humbled, which is an important lesson for anybody.  [The fight] was not even that close.  This will make perfect sense when you see season four, but the Arrow persona, the vigilante, the hood — that's a flawed persona.  We saw it be flawed. We saw him lose. There has to be something more. We'll see that eventually."

No, that would be horrible. Keep it at just Arrow, that way people don't mistake it for Green Arrow because the two have almost nothing incommon...

Sigh. If only this was as good as Agent Carter or AoS.

Of course he is going to become more of the comic book character. It's called character development people. That is what gonna make this show watching from beginning to end is seeing Oliver character progress into what most people see how Oliver act.

His character would be boring if he just started off like the regular Oliver and just stayed the same character the whole show run. His personality just would have any growth. That's something alot of these cbm movies miss alot.

the people who are complaining clearly aren't paying attention. We all knew from the beginning that oliver was going to become the green arrow we all know from the comics.

^Exactly! That's why he's nothing like him. Green Lantern of the comics if a fun jokey character in vein of the classic Robin Hood and Arrow is a boring piece of shit in vein of Russel Crow's Robin Hood...

its FUNNY HOW EARLY ON, THE CREATORS WANTED TO DISTANCE THEMSELVES FROM THE COMIC BOOKINESS OF THE SHOW BY DUBBING IT ARROW.. NOW THEY WANNA EMBRACE IT SINCE A UNIVERSE HAS SPAWNED FROM IT WITH FLASH

Look guys, remember Roy just came in. There's no reason to address him as "green arrow" unless there's another "arrow" to differentiate him from. Btw, character development. He's fighting for honor first season, now he's fighting for justice. thus, becoming more of a man than a kid.

IF you don't like the show, don't watch it. Anyway, they aren't going to recton the character to the snotty, Robin Hood wannabe from the comics. This is the only version of the character that hasn't set my teeth on edge or than what Kevin Smith and (later) Brad Meltzer did with him. He'll evolve, probably not in the way you're going to be completely behind.

You guys all bitch about Arrow but you have no problem with Snyder shitting all over MOS or Justice League.

Best news! Arrow needs to be Green Arrow. He needs to humiliate his enemies with punching glove arrow that inflates on impact like a air bag that gives them whiplash and causes them to spin 360 degrees backward.

And in other news, it looks like Felicity will be leaving to join the Atom spin off show. That way, at least they will have fans of her ass to build a fan base from.

In last week's episode, the news reporters described Roy as Red Arrow. I thing that's a hint that know that everyone knows that there are two the only way to differentiate between the two is by color.

so the city will finally acknowledge him as a hero?

i hope there is a big change like this...the show is such a drag now. this reason is no where near as good as last. it might have peaked already. but this would change th show a lot

"New Green Arrow To Be A Small Screen Jason Bourne
Dave Golder on Feb. 9, 2012, 9:02 a.m.
Show to be more realistic than most TV superhero fare, says network boss

Don’t expect the CW network’s new Green Arrow series, Arrow , to be anything like the comic book in tone, promises CW boss Head of Development Thom Sherman.

Speaking to Entertainment Weekly , Sherman says that the emphasis will be on realism, and that we’ll see an edgier Oliver Queen.

Describing the show as “very provocative and sophisticated and edgy,” Sherman says the pilot’s, “not as comic book-y as Smallville or other [superhero projects] from other networks.”

The tone will apparently be more grounded in reality, but less Dark Knight, and more Jason Bourne. “He does’'t have any superpowers,” says Sherman. “His skill-set is that he’s an archer, but he also haves physical strength and prowess. He’s clever and able to devise ways of taking down a bad guy that are unique and fun to watch.”

Good. I jumped off this show after the beginning for S3 because he was (and is still apparently) just Batman. Hopefully they get somewhat close to the character so I can hop back on.

"The show is VERY similar in tone to Mike Grell's run, and it is CLEARLY heavily inspired by his run. For 80 issues, Green Arrow was never referred to as Green Arrow, so the show isn't doing anything the comics haven't when it comes to not calling Oliver Green Arrow."

Not quite, the show's city seems to have a bit of Grell's run except with a lot of Batman villains. Then again this guy isn't Green Arrow or Arrow his Bat-Arrow.

BatHeis - You're kidding, right? Arrow kicks the living crap out of Agents of Bland and Agent Carter. The only better comic-related show on TV is The Flash.
