Kate Kane never planned to be Gotham's new vigilante. Three years after Batman mysteriously disappeared, Gotham is a city in despair. Without the Caped Crusader, the Gotham City Police Department was overrun and outgunned by criminal gangs. Enter Jacob Kane and his military-grade Crows Private Security, which now protects the city with omnipresent firepower and militia. Years before, Jacob's first wife and daughter were killed in the crossfire of Gotham crime. He sent his only surviving daughter, Kate Kane, away from Gotham for her safety. After a dishonorable discharge from military school and years of brutal survival training, Kate returns home when the Alice in Wonderland gang targets her father and his security firm, by kidnapping his best Crow officer Sophie Moore. Although remarried to wealthy socialite Catherine Hamilton-Kane, who bankrolls the Crows, Jacob is still struggling with the family he lost, while keeping Kate -- the daughter he still has -- at a distance. But Kate is a woman who's done asking for permission. In order to help her family and her city, she'll have to become the one thing her father loathes -- a dark knight vigilante. With the help of her compassionate stepsister, Mary, and the crafty Luke Fox, the son of Wayne Enterprises' tech guru Lucius Fox, Kate Kane continues the legacy of her missing cousin, Bruce Wayne, as Batwoman. Still holding a flame for her ex-girlfriend, Sophie, Kate uses everything in her power to combat the dark machinations of the psychotic Alice, who's always somewhere slipping between sane and insane. Armed with a passion for social justice and a flair for speaking her mind, Kate soars through the shadowed streets of Gotham as Batwoman. But don't call her a hero yet. In a city desperate for a savior, she must first overcome her own demons before embracing the call to be Gotham's symbol of hope.

Rachel Skarsten as Alice
Meagan Tandy as Sophie Moore

It was a solid episode. Nocturna was an interesting villain for Kate to go against. And I did like the bloodparty setup that Kate, Mary and Luke had going on (though seriously, this episode really missed out on having some Blade references, HUGE missed opportunity). Lucius was pretty funny tonight, really enjoyed his quips.

Alice... I liked that we didn't have as much of her this episode, but I still found her to be abrasive. Though I did think that the conversation Kate had with her about being "stupid" was well done. I just don't get what Alice's endgame is here, and am long past tired of her story being dragged out.

Side note regarding Jacob getting released from prison. I feel like we missed a crucial scene or two between last episode and this one. I was a bit surprised that he was released out of the blue.

@HeavyMetal4Life - This is for sure one of the show's best episodes so far. Don't think we will be getting any Marvel refferences on Batwoman, like Arrow, its the fully serious show of the arrowverse, refferences seem to only happen in crossovers and Flash, Supergirl and Legends.

Nice to have a break from Alice, like her as villain, but like Thinker and Damien Darhk in their respective fourth seasons, they just show up too much to keep getting away. If she stays on as a series regular I could see her becoming the show's Spike (buffy the vampire slayer)

'Yeah seems like, beth dying shouldn't have been enough to get him out this quickly, should have kept him in for another episode

Probably the best episode of the show so far. Wonder if there is any chance of Nocturna becoming a regular guest character, be like Kate's Catwoman. They did have a thing in the comics at one point

On a scale of 1-10, how cringey is this show? I only watched the first 3 episodes.

This is not a question for the CW diehards here.

The best thing this show could do is kill off Alice and never bring her back

@rabid - I'll second this

@rabid - No, the best thing they could do is get WB to stop being so damn cheap with what is arguably one of the best rogue galleries in all of fiction.
