BATWOMAN: WWE Superstar Sonya Deville Throws Her Hat In The Ring To Replace Ruby Rose

News broke yesterday that Ruby Rose has decided to leave the role of Batwoman behind, & stars have already begun to campaign to replace her as Kate Kane on social media. The latest is WWE's Sonya Deville.

Yesterday brought the surprising announcement that Batwoman star Ruby Rose has decided to part ways with the CW series ahead of its recently renewed second season. The search is now on to find another LGBTQ actress to don the cape and cowl, and it doesn't look like Warner Bros. TV will have to look very far for a suitable replacement!

Soon after the news broke, WWE Superstar and former MMA fighter Sonya Deville (real name Daria Berenato) took to Twitter to express interest in the role, asking The CW and showrunner Greg Berlanti to give her a "shot at playing Batwoman."

Deville is the first openly gay female wrestler in WWE, and although she has primarily competed as part of the Fire and Desire tag-team with Mandy Rose, she recently "turned heel" and has been making waves as a singles star.

As far as we know, Sonya doesn't have any acting experience, but she certainly looks the part, and has been given an opportunity to cut some very impressive promos of late.

What do you guys think? Could you see Sonya Deville as Gotham's new Caped Crusader? Drop us a comment in the usual place.

Its a crazy time when a wrestler can toss their hate in the ring for a head role in a tv show and its not a crazy idea.

@BlackBeltJones - They’re already part-actors so to me it was never a stretch.

@BlackBeltJones - how? The 80s had a body builder leading blockbuster after blockbuster and one of the biggest stars working today used to be a wrestler.

@Origame - that’s what I’m saying. It’s like common now. Not just Rock or a wrestler doing only b movie stuff

@BlackBeltJones - ...its been common since the 80s at least. I dont know how old you are but im guessing you were born sometime after that. Jesse Ventura, hulk hogan, stone cold steve austin, john cena, and andre the giant all have had roles in movies. Its been super common.

@Kurne - Starring role in a peak pop culture production looks good on a resume.

@Kurne - it’s the lead role in a comic book series. Whether people on forums want to complain about it or not, you can’t deny that these shows make a ton of money for the CW or they wouldn’t keep making new shows. There’s an audience for this show outside of the echo chamber of Internet forums and comment sections that doesn’t complain about every detail.

@Kurne - That's all it is, a paycheck. If this doesn't work out. She's got her wwe career.

I'm leaning more and more to Alexandra Daddario as a new Batwoman. I don't know Deville at all, can she act? I can't find any acting credits of her. Last thing this show needs is lead who is doesn't act on the same level with rest of the cast.

her "acting" on WWE has gotten a lot better since they let her go solo, and certainly as an MMA fighter and WWE performer, she can handle the action scenes

I'm down with it.

need an actor. Know it wont happen because they want an LGBT actress, but my personal choices are

(Although probably below her pay grade)

(although she is on another show)

(if they write the change into the plot, it could make for an interesting few episodes, if Alice changes Kate's face to look like her)
