Well, it looks like Gotham may have finally introduced its version of the Joker as the series introduced Jerome Valeska's (Cameron Monaghan) twin brother, Jeremiah, who had been in hiding for the better part of the last fifteen years.

Jerome's master plan was also revealed as we learned that not only does he want to kill his brother for turning him into a pariah and essentially sending him down this dark path so many years ago, he also wants to first make Jeremiah every bit as bats**t insane as he is. Jerome even delivers a variation of the iconic "one bad day" line and the end of the hour reveals that he's perfected a prototype of the Joker's infamous laughing gas, which may prove to be key in Jeremiah's transformation into the Clown Prince of Crime.

We already know that Joker (Jeremiah) has a predilection for blond-haired girls, even before the arrival of Harley Quinn.

Cant wait, hopefully it gets one more season, after that I would be ok with it ending, dont want it to go on too long and go down hill like Smallville

-Acts like The Joker.
-Yells quotes of The Joker.
-Dresses like The Joker, except the Purple Colors.
-Has the Nicholson's Joker Smile.
-He had the "Leatherface Joker" face look for a while.
-We spend years thinking Jerome would be this universe Joker because all of this data.
-The series even resurrected the character to make it even more obvious.

-Turns out The real Joker is his twin brother.

Is it really much of a surprise that Jerome isn't the Joker? I mean, I get why people wanted him to be but it was easy to deduce early on that he wasn't.

-Jerome pretty much only homaged the previous actors who played the Joker, instead of doing his spin. An obvious sign of a red herring.

-The first two seasons were filled with other Proto-Jokers, such as the Killing Joke comedian in the pilot, the guy who fell into a vat of chemicals in Season 1 Episode 2, Jeri (the female Joker in Season 2), ETC. They later re-worked this into the Jerome Cult in Season 3.

-Jerome was killed early on, and only brought back a season later by popular demand. The narration that played over his death also implied that he would go on to inspire the Joker.

-The showrunner Bruno Heller flat out said that Jerome isn't the Joker back in 2015, when he was killed off.

I don't know about everyone else, but I'm hardly shocked.

1. If Jerome didn't acted like Joker this whole time, I dunno...

2. That comedian was more on an Easter Egg than a Proto-Joker. He never comed back after that.

3. Come now. You can't take Heller serious in this things. It sounds like it's all planned, yk. Nygma and Penguin actors said that their "romantic relationship" was improvised 100%. They just played with the idea all the time they wanted, going to some directions here and there.

What makes you think Heller isn't doing the same with the other stuff happening in this series? Probably he didn't want Jerome as the Joker now because he had a better idea for the character.

But if that fails, probably the Madman will say something like: "Yeah, you know, turns out the twin brother WAS the Proto Joker. It was all a test, The Real Joker is Jerome, this time, I swear."

There were several Proto-Jokers throughout the first two seasons, none of which are going to return now that this Joker mystery is just about solved (or will be in the next episode). And Bruno Heller, David Mazouz, John Stephens, and Bryan Wynbrandt all said Jerome wasn't going to be the Joker... And look at what's happening: he isn't! Funny how viewers in denial think they know more than the actual people making the show.

And of course he acted like the Joker (or more specifically, like the previous actors who played the Joker). Here are a couple of dictionary definitions for you:

red herring - noun; something, especially a clue, that is or is intended to be misleading or distracting.

precursor - noun; a person or thing that comes before another of the same kind; a forerunner.

Smart move: Make this precursor to steal Joker's stuff, then kill him off, and then when the Real Joker comes out, leave him without any special connection with Bruce or other members of the cast.

Because you know, it was Jerome who made Bruce create his moral code, not Joker.

It was a clue disguissed as a character who killed Sarah Essen, not Joker.

It was a precursor who started this "Joker-mania", not Joker.

At the end of the day, you're making The Joker sound like a thug. Someone who steal the job from people better than him.

Because that's what Joker is supposed to be, just another criminal, a guy who in fact is the living image of another criminal who was 10 times worse than him.

Instead of, you know, One of a kind.

It's interesting how you miss one of the most important aspects of The Joker this bad. How he's not supposed to be a "Jokerz Leader", if you get that reference.

I can get if people is mad about The Joker having a real name or even an origin. But, what the hell...Make The Joker a Copycat? Or even thinking of making The Joker an idea, something that everyone can be? Have this precursor/clue steal a lot of the things that make him special, then kill him off, and say that this guy steal his things to make himself be called "The Joker"?

What a joke, indeed.

For those wondering, The Riddle Factory is an actual comic storyline from 1995. It had the same premise of The Riddler hosting an underground game show where you win prizes if you solve his puzzles, but are put in death traps if you lose.

I'm not exactly sure how Jerome's brother is supposed to be a better Joker than Jerome. Because he's... Smarter? I mean, we all knew that Jerome was a red herring (especially since he only homaged the previous actors, such as Mark Hamill, Heath Ledger, and Jack Nicholson) but I'm hoping they pull another complete 180, and have the Indian Hill clone of Jerome become the Joker or something.

Because it's already a done deal that he's not the Joker now. The showrunners and everyone has said he isn't. I would rather they bring back the Indian Hill clone of Jerome than use his twin brother, to be honest. No one would expect it and it would be better than having his twin brother go crazy from some gas.

Why would you want Jerome to be a precursor, a Tool, for the making of The Real Joker, when he's already a Great "Joker" without even being The Joker already? Why complicate your scripts that much? It's even needed? It's this what people wants, or what you need your Joker needs?

It's like saying that Jack Nicholson's Joker was a Proto-Joker and that The Real Joker is Knox because "Well, you know, Nicholson's just was an Homage of Alan Moore's Joker, he was just Jack Napier."

"Ey, it turns out Ledger Joker was an Homage of Brandon Lee's The Crow, The real menace here is Harvey Dent, he's the Real Joker."

Except Jack Nicholson brought his own spin to the role, nothing in that film or anything said by the filmmakers indicated he was anything but The Joker, and Batman (1989) wasn't an origin story prequel TV show.

Do you honestly STILL think Jerome is the Joker, even after everyone involved has said he isn't, after leaked photos have all but proven he isn't, and after everything that just happened in the episode that just aired? Did you even watch the episode, or are you just in denial?

@Darkknight2149 - Yeah. Tell that to the people that thinks Nicholson's homaged Romero and other comic book Jokers. I mean, Nicholson give his own touch to the character, that's true. But so did Jerome.

And about the last question, I don't know man. In a good script, it would make sense that Jerome is The Joker.

Why Bruno Heller played with the "It's Jerome The Joker or not?" game by so long it's a mystery to me. People is fine with having Ras or people like Azrael, Pyg and the Actual Scarecrow here. At this point of the series, I don't get why would Bruno throw away Jerome and make another dude to be The Joker. It's crazy.

Why would you say I'm in denial? I don't look like that kind of guy who enjoys "Gotham", do I?

No, Jerome just homaged the previous actors. I'm not sure what "own touch" Cameron Monaghan gave Jerome, though I'm sure that'll change when he starts playing the real Joker (whether it ends up being his twin brother, or they pull another twist with the Indian Hill clone, we'll just have to see). And I asked if you were in denial because it sounded like you were arguing that Jerome IS the Joker, rather than just that Jerome should be the Joker.

Great episode tonight, Jerome was awesome and the reveal of Jeremiah (who most of us knew was coming) was great. Just an all around fun, great episode of Gotham. Probably the best episode since Ra's al Ghul died. And the Lee and Riddler plot was good too.
