GOTHAM Renewed For A Fifth & Final Season That Will Focus On Bruce Wayne's Transformation Into The BATMAN
After a few days on the hot seat, FOX has officially announced that they've decided to renew Gotham for a fifth and final season, which will focus on Bruce Wayne’s transformation into the caped crusader
Ahead of Thursday's Joker-centric season finale, FOX has officially announced today that their DC Comics drama, Gotham, will indeed return for a fifth - and final - season this fall.
The network also confirmed that the final season would primarily focus on Bruce Wayne's (David Mazouz) transformation into the Dark Knight. “The fifth and final season will wrap up this unique origin story of the great DC Comics Super-Villains and vigilantes, which revealed an entirely new chapter that has never been told.”
The show has been on the bubble all year and was more or less considered a goner at this time on Friday, especially after the cancelation of fellow fan-favorite Lucifer, but it looks like the network decided to give them a little extra time to finally get Bruce Wayne to put on that cowl and become the man he's destined to become.
An episode count has yet-to-be-revealed, but it wouldn't be a surprise to see the series receive a shortened final run, possibly in the 10- or 13-episode range.
While Gotham managed to narrowly escape the ax, Fox has made some extremely difficult decisions over the past few days, canceling Lucifer, Brooklyn Nine-Nine (although its since been revived by NBC), The Exorcist, The Mick, and The Last Man on Earth. In other news, they've also renewed Lethal Weapon for a third season, but have replaced Clayne Crawford with Seann William Scott.

Then, Bruce is forced to come to terms with the future in the all-new "A Dark Knight: No Man's Land" season finale episode of GOTHAM airing Thursday, May 17 (8:00-9:00 PM ET/PT) on FOX.

Season Four of Gotham will witness the emergence of the criminal landscape for which Gotham City is best known, with GCPD Detectives Jim Gordon and Harvey Bullock at the forefront of the fight against the most depraved and unhinged villains.
