GOTHAM Season 5 Trailer Released; Shane West Confirmed As Bane, Harley Quinn Update, & Batman Is Coming
FOX has released a sizzle reel for Gotham season 5, featuring a quick look at the madness to come. Plus, Shane West has been confirmed as the back-breaking Bane and Batman will appear in the series finale!
Bane is officially coming to Gotham and it sounds like he has something major planned for our heroes in the coming fifth and final season of the hit DC series.
Showrunner John Stephens confirmed today, during the show's New York Comic-Con panel, that Shane West (Nikita) will indeed be breathing life into the iconic villain. He also teased that while the relationship between Bane and Jim Gordon (Ben McKenzie) will be mostly similar to their dynamic in the comics, their backstories are tied together in a new and unexpected manner. It was also revealed that Alfred Pennyworth (Sean Pertwee) will be among the first to tango with the villain and according to Pertwee, their first encounter is not going to go particularly well and may result in a broken back for the trusted butler.
On another note, season five will feature the return of a number of rogues from seasons past, including, but not limited to, the Joker (Cameron Monaghan), Penguin (Robin Lord Taylor), Riddler (Cory Michael Smith), Barbara Kean (Erin Richards), Catwoman (Camren Bicondova), Solomon Grundy (Drew Powell), Tabitha Galavan (Jessica Lucas), Poison Ivy (Peyton List), Victor Zsasz (Anthony Carrigan), Mad Hatter (Benedict Samuel), Scarecrow (Charlie Tahan), and Hugo Strange (B.D. Wong).
Fans will also get to see the Joker get a girlfriend and while we didn't get a name, Stephens teased that the character, in question, loves to dress in a lot of colors and is also very fond of roller skates. Take from that what you will.
The final season, which begins midseason next year, will only consist of ten episodes and the series finale is shaping up to be quite the doozy as it take place ten years in the future and will finally introduce the character everyone's been waiting for - Batman, who will interact with the worst of the worst Gotham has to offer before the credits roll. Now, whether it'll be David Mazouz or an older actor that ultimately dons the cape and cowl remains to-be-seen, but it's hard to imagine it won't be Mazouz after all the work he's put in these past five seasons.
Season Four of Gotham will witness the emergence of the criminal landscape for which Gotham City is best known, with GCPD Detectives Jim Gordon and Harvey Bullock at the forefront of the fight against the most depraved and unhinged villains. While Gotham City fights for normalcy, a new hero will rise, as Bruce Wayne begins to assume responsibility for the city’s well-being.
