Tonight marks the return of Gotham: Mad City, which boasts the first appearance of the newly brought-to-life Jerome Valeska (expertly played by Cameron Monaghan), who was controversially killed off during the Rise of the Villians arc from the second season. Now that the series' marketing campaign is back in full effect, the latest promo has provided a first  real glimpse of what the new Jerome will look like in action, as he vows that "Gotham City has no heroes and nothing but darkness."

While speaking with TV Line, executive producer John Stephens divulged new details about what fans can expect to see from Jerome this season. "It's the same Jerome, but altered. Someone who has basically gone through death and come back to life has a very different point of view. He also has a grander point of view. It's odd to say he's more psychotic than he was before." You won't have to wait until Bruce Wayne's adult years for him to have another encounter with the Joker, assuming that's who Jerome is. "[Bruce] really gets pulled into the Jerome story. We really see a big step that he takes. Another brick in that wall [of the Batman philosophy] gets built in episode 14, and it gets built via Jerome. It's, for us, really significant that that guy ends up informing this part of Batman's mythology."

Jerome won't be the only character returning to Gotham, as John Stephens explains that Firefly and Mister Freeze will make their respective revivals as the show delves deeper into the Court of Owls lore.

Production would cost a tone if we wanted a Batman series

I liked Leto's Joker, but holy cow, Cameron's Jerome(Joker?) is just INCREDIBLE! He had the part nailed!

@Batman89mk - It's sad when an Oscar winner's Joker isn't as good as a small-time TV actor's Not-Joker.

At least he's channeling Ledger.

Unlike that garbage Leto performance.
