While Cameron Monaghan's dastardly Gotham villain, Jerome, was presumably meant to serve his final purpose when he was murdered in season 2, the overwhelming response to the actor's performance likely prompted the showrunners to find a way to bring the unhinged "proto-Joker" back from the grave.

Jerome has been confirmed to make a comeback when season 3 returns to the air in January, and a new synopsis for the episode, "Ghosts", has seemingly provided us with a clue as to how it might happen. Monaghan has also been busy teasing fans on social media with very Joker-esque photos, with several of them hinting that Jerome will be taking on an appearance similar to the "faceless" New 52 iteration of the Joker. Be sure to check it out below!

Gotham returns on January 16, 2017.
