The season finale (James Gunn has all but confirmed that the show will continue) of Lanterns hits HBO Max this Sunday, and a new teaser featuring some highly positive pull-quotes from critics has been released.

The promo only includes a couple of new shots, but they may reveal quite a lot about the episode.

At around the 19-second mark, we see what appears to be a captive Sinestro being dunked into the water. Is John Stewart torturing the former Green Lantern for information?

It's been established that the planet John and Hal(Ogram) travelled to in "The Jordan Boys' Legacy" has been flooded with a gas that causes hallucinations, so this may not actually be happening.

Then, right at the end of the teaser, we see the real Hal Jordan lying incapacitated before asking his mysterious captor what - not who - he is. After the conversation Zoe had with her grandson in episode 5 and the screen time the character was given last week, we'd be very surprised if this didn't turn out to be Noah Macon.

Of course, even if Noah is the person in this scene, it doesn't necessarily mean he killed Jordan. In the previous episode, the possibility that "The Jordan Boys Legacy" may have resulted in Hal pulling the trigger himself was raised.

Check out the new teaser below along with some fan-made posters, and be sure to share your theories on the season finale of Lanterns in the comments section.

HBO in association with Warner Bros. Television and DC Studios. The pilot episode is co-written by Chris Mundy, Damon Lindelof, and Tom King, who are co-creators for the series. Mundy serves as showrunner. The first two episodes are directed by James Hawes, with Stephen Williams, Geeta Vasant Patel, and Alik Sakharov also tapped to direct. The series is executive produced by Mundy, Lindelof, James Gunn, Peter Safran, King, Ron Schmidt, and Hawes. Based on the DC comic characters from Green Lantern.

The series stars Kyle Chandler, Aaron Pierre, Kelly Macdonald, Garret Dillahunt, Poorna Jagannathan, Laura Linney, Jason Ritter, Ulrich Thomsen, Nathan Fillion, J. Alphonse Nicholson, and Jasmine Cephas Jones.

The series follows new recruit John Stewart (Aaron Pierre) and Lantern legend Hal Jordan (Kyle Chandler), two intergalactic cops drawn into a dark, earth-based mystery as they investigate a murder in the American heartland.

Very much looking forward to this finale. It’s been really good. That one writer chick who keeps saying Hal is a racist, if a flerking moron, by the way.

I feel Noah is some sort of human manhunter hybrid given the hints we got in ep 5 of Zoe saying to him to remember what she taught him and Kerry saying Zoe gave her a “miracle” (which I guess could be a second chance at life since she saved her from those Gotham goons but still)…

However I don’t think he killed him and that Kerry did in order to protect her son no matter how much she did love & care for Hal who found out given the Halogram feeling like she might be involved last episode and as we have seen , Hal’s gut hasn’t been wrong.

Speaking of which , Kelly McDonald was fantastic in the scene in which she sees “Halogram” , so much affection and a myriad of emotions on her face which actually touched me even though we don’t really know much of the history of her & Hal as a couple post him getting out of prison so another case of the performers elevating the writing imo.

Anyway , not sure of what to make of Hal at the end of the footage there but I hope the episode wraps up the show well since I have liked it quite a bit so far!!.

I took the fact that he went back to pick up the ball as a kid, after his dad told him to let it go, essential rejecting the “legacy”. It’s gotta be the kid.

@NonPlayerC - Same... I doubt he killed himself, but it adds another layer to the mystery.

Ready for this turd to hit the toilet bowl so the defenders will stop saying “just wait till the end before judging it!”

I’m not watching, but I do read the reviews and recaps, and it’s even worse than I thought it would be after Episode 1 (the only episode I did watch).

@Odekahn - anti-depression, anti-anxiety, anti-i-hate-evrything-ever meds could help you with your obnoxious problem

@lazlodaytona - Congrats on diagnosing me through a comment section. Must be exhausting being the self-appointed pharmacist for everyone who doesn’t clap like a seal for mediocre garbage. Keep the free medical advice coming.. next you’ll prescribe me a personality transplant so I can enjoy the same turd you’re defending.

@Odekahn - no, but you should be informed pharmacist don't make diagnoses. Doctors do.
The pharmacist just gives you the drugs the doctor orders.

Hope that helps your future medical visits.

@lazlodaytona - Appreciate the career guidance, but you’re still out here playing WebMD in the comments. Next you’ll tell me the difference between a radiologist and a receptionist while defending the same steaming pile. Save the unsolicited life lessons for someone who asked.

@Odekahn - I didn't hear you beyond the loudness of your ineptitude between Pharmacists and Doctors.

Literally a dumbass mistake. Don't worry. I wont put my findings to the internet/CBM parole board. They're not interested in the uneducated about life people on this earth.

@Odekahn - wait. Career guidance?! .... 😄😆😂🤣

That's just f'n hilarious from an internal troll.

@lazlodaytona - Still clutching that pharmacist/doctor distinction like it’s the hill you’re willing to die on. You were the one who started handing out free prescriptions in the comments (“anti-depression, anti-anxiety, anti-I-hate-everything meds”), then got offended when someone treated you like the amateur pharmacist you volunteered to be.

You spent two replies and a whole emotional arc attempting to correct a metaphor (you initiated) while completely ignoring the actual point. Impressive focus.

Calling someone an “internal troll” while writing multi-paragraph medical lectures in a comment section about a show is peak self-awareness. Don’t stop now, Professor.

Sinestro getting dunked in water as torture…why even bother using the character? A character that’s been across and fought in hundreds of galaxies! Just make him human. There is nothing special or fantastic about these interpretations- just a guy with purple skin and a mustache.

MarkCassidy - 10/1/2026, 8:28 AM
@Dotanuki - Ok, but without his ring does he have superior speed and strength to a well-trained human? I haven't read many GL comics.

@lazlodaytona - I guess I should be insulted, but given your response was an ad hominem, it's clear that you don't think the writing is bad. Therefore, you don't know what good writing is.
So the insult is meaningless, or a compliment, you decide :)

"This post was submitted by a user who has agreed to our Terms of Service and Community Guidelines."

Well, it's obvious that ComicBookMovie should at least read the submissions since the author of this article wrote:

"It's been established that the planet John and Hal(Ogram) travelled to in "Bad Optics"..."

"Bad Optics" was Episode 6. The one with Guy Gardner, Hal's funeral, etc.

Episode 7, "The Jordan Boys' Legacy" was last week with the portal, the floating city, the hallucinations, and the Halogram talking about his father.

And no, that's not a simple mistake.

Do better.

While I am sticking to my original theory that John Stewart senior killed Hal Jordan, another way out there theory is that the dead Hal on the bleachers is actually Lianna who shape shifted into him and Hal killed her with the gun that John loses on the planet.
