Earlier today, the full line-up for the second DC FanDome was officially announced, and we now have confirmation that the first footage from Peacemaker will screen during the online event. In anticipation, James Gunn has taken to Instagram to share a promo poster for The Suicide Squad spinoff, which will see John Cena reprise the role of unhinged vigilante Christopher Smith.
Clearly, Peacemaker (or should that be "Pissmaker"?) is still the same obnoxious asshole we were introduced to in The Suicide Squad. Gunn has confirmed that the series will humanise the character to some extent, however.
Check out the poster below.
Spoilers for The Suicide Squad follow.
Towards the end of the movie, Bloodsport (Idris Elba) shot Peacemaker in the throat as he was about to execute Ratcatcher II (Daniela Melchoir). At that point, we all assumed this Peacemaker show would be a prequel, but the post-credits scene revealed that Smith had survived, and will soon be needed to help Amanda Waller's people "save the f*cking world."
Peacemaker will also star Danielle Brooks, Steve Agee, Jennifer Holland, Chris Conrad, Robert Patrick and Chukwudi Iwuji. Specific plot details are still under wraps, but we do know that the series will explore the origins of Cena's titular DC Comics villain/antihero, a man who believes in peace at any cost, no matter how many people he has to kill to get it.
Gunn is writing and directing the show, which was ordered to series last September. No official premiere date has been announced, but Peacemaker is expected to hit HBO Max next January.
