New POWERLESS Synopsis Moves The Action From An Insurance Agency To A Wayne Enterprises Company

It looks like some big changes have been made to Powerless since the pilot was screened at Comic-Con earlier this year as the workplace comedy will now be set in a company owned by Gotham's Dark Knight!

The pilot episode of Powerless was screened to a mixed, but mostly positive, response at this year's San Diego Comic-Con, but it sounds like NBC has made some major changes to the first ever DC Comics sitcom. While the events of the workplace comedy were originally set to take place at an insurance company, Batman-News reveals that the network has made a big change to that which ties into the world of the Caped Crusader. While the premise won't be too different, it's still a big alteration!

For more on what to expect, here's the newly released official synopsis for the upcoming series.

In a world where humanity must cope with the collateral damage of Super Heroes and Super-Villains, Emily Locke (Vanessa Hudgens) begins her first day as Director of Research & Development for Wayne Security, a subsidiary of Wayne Enterprises that specializes in products that make defenseless bystanders feel a little safer. Full of confidence and big ideas, Emily quickly learns that her expectations far exceed those of her new boss (Alan Tudyk) and officemates, so it will be up to her to lead the team toward their full potential and the realization that you don’t need superpowers to be a hero.

So, the company now makes products to help regular people defend themselves from superpowered individuals rather than insurance claims, and that could mean the first episode has been pretty much reshot from scratch. Alternatively, it may be the same thing with just a different - and more recognisable name - but this is still an interesting development. What do you guys think of the change?

@ODanil - Which again proves my point. WB has zero faith in any other property they own but Batman. And to me that is so sad.

Which raises another question. If they are only confident in Batman why have they invested money and talent into a Batman shared universe with Nightwing, Red Hood, Robin, Azrael, Batgirl, Batwoman, and Batman Beyond?

@SonOfAGif - Silly little boy.........Batman is the bread and butter of DC.......just like how Marve is using Ironman in Spiderman Homecoming.

God forbid DC to capitalize on something.

So... what happened? Did Disney's lawyers have a conversation with WB's about this being basically Damage Control? Was that the only reason Damage Control got any juice to begin with, as a legal maneuver? And is this the reason for what feels like an inordinate delay?

Or maybe they just wanted more Batman because Batman.

@Spock0Clock - wouldn't be surprised

@Spock0Clock - Could be a bit of both. I remember reading at one point that Wonder Woman would make a cameo. Wouldn't surprise me one bit if a WB lawyer warned of a potential lawsuit from Disney.

Not to mention Damage Control is/was to be set within the MCU.
