Multiple sources are reporting that actor Adam West has died at the age of 88, following a short battle with leukemia. He was surrounded by family at the time of his passing.

West's career spanned over sixty years, during which he appeared in more than fifty films and television shows, with his crowning achievement being, of course, portraying Bruce Wayne, a.k.a. The Batman, on the popular '60s television series Batman. He also recently reprised his iconic role for the animated movie Batman: Return of the Caped Crusaders and its upcoming sequel Batman vs. Two-Face.

His more prominent recent credits include voiceover work on a variety of projects, including, but not limited to, Family Guy, Batman: The Brave and the Bold, The Fairly OddParents, The BatmanSpongeBob Squarepants, Chicken Little, Aloha, Scooby-Doo!, The Simpsons, Rugrats, and Batman: The Animated Series. He also guest-starred on episodes of The Big Bang Theory and Powerless, with his final live-action appearance coming from an unaired episode of the latter.

His family has issued the following statement. "Our dad always saw himself as The Bright
Knight, and aspired to make a positive impact on his fans’ lives. He was and always will be our hero.

West is survived by his wife Marcelle, six children, five grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.

Our deepest condolences to the West family.

This is a sad day. It wasn't even long ago that the actress that played Batgirl died and now sadly Batman has passed on too.

Prayers and best wishes go out to Adam West's family and friends.

@BlackIceJoe - and Tess Trueheart from the Dick Tracy movie passed yesterday as well. Very sad weekend. I was never the biggest Batman fan, but he won me over with his portrayal of Mayor Adam West for life.

@EntertainmentAddict - I heard about that. I remember hear last year Warren Beatty was still trying to get a sequel made and wanted to bring the whole cast back. Sadly that won't happen now.

@OozyOrifice - I mean if there's a Batman that should be forgotten, it's Clooney's. Not so much Kilmer's.

Really sad day.

He was my First Batman way before I got into comics.

@Brainiac13 - same for me, he was great. I just recently had the opportunity to sit down and watch his Batman movie with my five year old nephew. Such a proud moment for me, I've been taking him to get comics with me and his first comic....Batman '66!

@Brainiac13 - He was my first Batman, too. I was such a fan that I convinced my grandmother to get me Batman toys and a lunchbox, which was shocking back then for a little girl. My brothers were so disgusted! LOL Adam West was the Bright Knight, indeed.
