Multiple sources are reporting that actor Adam West has died at the age of 88, following a short battle with leukemia. He was surrounded by family at the time of his passing.
West's career spanned over sixty years, during which he appeared in more than fifty films and television shows, with his crowning achievement being, of course, portraying Bruce Wayne, a.k.a. The Batman, on the popular '60s television series Batman. He also recently reprised his iconic role for the animated movie Batman: Return of the Caped Crusaders and its upcoming sequel Batman vs. Two-Face.
His more prominent recent credits include voiceover work on a variety of projects, including, but not limited to, Family Guy, Batman: The Brave and the Bold, The Fairly OddParents, The Batman, SpongeBob Squarepants, Chicken Little, Aloha, Scooby-Doo!, The Simpsons, Rugrats, and Batman: The Animated Series. He also guest-starred on episodes of The Big Bang Theory and Powerless, with his final live-action appearance coming from an unaired episode of the latter.
His family has issued the following statement. "Our dad always saw himself as The Bright Knight, and aspired to make a positive impact on his fans’ lives. He was and always will be our hero.”
West is survived by his wife Marcelle, six children, five grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.
Our deepest condolences to the West family.
