SUPERGIRL is an action-adventure drama based on the DC Comics character Kara Zor-El (Melissa Benoist), Superman’s (Kal-El) cousin who, after 12 years of keeping her powers a secret on Earth, decides to finally embrace her superhuman abilities and be the hero she was always meant to be. Twelve-year-old Kara escaped the doomed planet Krypton with her parents’ help at the same time as the infant Kal-El. Protected and raised on Earth by her foster family, the Danvers, Kara grew up in the shadow of her foster sister, Alex (Chyler Leigh), and learned to conceal the phenomenal powers she shares with her famous cousin in order to keep her identity a secret.

Years later at 24, Kara lives in National City assisting media mogul and fierce taskmaster Cat Grant (Golden Globe Award winner Calista Flockhart), who just hired the Daily Planet’s former photographer, James Olsen (Mehcad Brooks), as her new art director. However, Kara’s days of keeping her talents a secret are over when Hank Henshaw (David Harewood), head of a super-secret agency where her sister also works, enlists her to help them protect the citizens of National City from sinister threats. Though Kara will need to find a way to manage her newfound empowerment with her very human relationships, her heart soars as she takes to the skies as Supergirl to fight crime.

Using words like "rave reviews" simply because its finally a female lead superhero, not because it's any good.

I think the show is already falling into the same trap that made Catwoman, the original Supergirl movie and the Wonder Woman pilot crap did... it's trying too hard to be girlie and not just have a bad ass chick kicking anyones ass like Buffy did

I'm still not sold on this show. But i think i like Calista Flockhart.

It looks terrible. There is no way I watch this. And this is coming from someone who loves Linda Carter's Wonder Woman, Buffy and Agent Carter.
But that's OK, I have Jessica Jones to look forward to.

I also like the first costume better.

To be fair, i actually think the costume people did a really good job with her costume in this.

It's a shame they didn't use the New 52 costume. I like it.

I'm sorry, are you talking about the pilot where Wonder Woman threw a lead pipe through a guy's neck and pinned his lifeless corpse to a door? While you can point to her doting on an ex-boyfriend and going home to a cliche single-lady-one-cat apartment, it's hard to argue she wasn't badass enough.

I just don't understand why female superheroes so often get given Barbie Dreamhouse versions of male superhero things. Instead of going after corrupt industrialists, female superheroes go after corrupt cosmetic companies. Instead of working at a newspaper, female superheroes work at fashion magazines. I genuinely can't tell if it's demeaning, sexist, pandering, or actually what women want in their superheroes (because plenty of these have female creators involved).

But still. I think Supergirl has the potential to overcome those traditional shortcomings. Sure, it trades in the same tropes of many female superheroes. But it also seems to be doing so fairly well.

The Wonder Woman pilot is about a CEO superhero with tons of gadgets who beats people to death with her beastly strength and then goes home to whine about having no date. Who is that supposed to speak to? But Supergirl is about a young woman struggling against society's expectations of her based on perceived shortcomings that she had no control over, in and out of her super suit. That's at least a reasonably good foundation for those tropes that were so onerous in Catwoman, et al.

Must be easy to get "rave reviews" because Supergirl was horrible! It looks like an unaired 1995 spinoff of Lois & Clark. But that show got rave reviews too.

I already have the entire season set to record on my DVR. So much DC content (with more on the way!!) so little time to watch it all.

Still hating that they cancelled Constantine.

@quickhook,

What the f.uck are you going on about now?

As if you know how to find a leaked pilot.

STFU, already.

And I know you haven't seen it because the CGI is actually a highlight of the show.

Nice try, troll.
