SUPERGIRL's Man Of Steel Tyler Hoechlin On Comparisons To Henry Cavill's Superman And Playing Clark Kent
New Superman Tyler Hoechlin reveals whether he's feeling the pressure to compete with Henry Cavill's big screen Man of Steel, while he also discusses what sounds like a pretty humorous take on Clark Kent.
Earlier this week, we learned that Teen Wolf alum Tyler Hoechlin will play Superman in The CW's Supergirl (sorry, Tom Welling fans). When Mail Online caught up with the actor at the Sydney Film Festival premiere of Everybody Wants Some, they were quick to ask whether or not he's feeling the pressure to compare what he does with the Man of Steel to the version played by Henry Cavill.
"I never try to compare and contrast performances," he said, "because it's such an iconic character already." That's a fair point, but Hoechlin playing Superman marks the first time two versions of the hero have existed at the same time in live-action since Smallville was on the air at the same time as Superman Returns was released. Regardless, the actor went on to elaborate on his point above by making his priorities clear when it comes to what he's thinking about while taking on this role. "Superman is Superman so I'm just going to try to carry on the tradition of that and play that part."
Interestingly, Hoechlin went on to seemingly confirm that we'll see both Superman AND Clark Kent in Supergirl this Fall. "I think the fun is going to be finding where Clark Kent is in this world. I'm just excited to find out Clark's sense of humour." The biggest question here is just how large Superman's role will be in this world moving forward. Is he just making two quick appearances to get viewers to tune into Supergirl on her new home or will he make future appearances? (just imagine seeing him in that four part crossover) Time will tell, but share your thoughts on these comments below.
